My biggest pain with this one was Alistair's (oh-so-common) duplicitous hypocrisy, starting out volunteering his opinion that there's not much choice other than killing Connor but then dropping 13 approval points later in camp after listening to his advice! Yet another disappointment in Prince Charmless...

Otherwise it's mostly just a roleplay issue: if you can't send a mage of your own into the Fade using Jowan's blood magic you have to decide for yourself whether you'd leave the ravaged village otherwise unprotected for days- against the warnings of Teagan- to travel to the Circle Tower to ask if they can do anything at all, not guaranteed in advance that they can or will. It doesn't have to be a matter of spite against Arl Eamon, just protectiveness of Redcliffe Village (which Isolde doesn't share) or even of Eamon himself who your witless fellow Warden says is key to winning forces against the Archdemon.

What's even funnier is that in Alistair's angry rant after killing Connor, he says you should have sacrificed Isolde since it was all her fault (if Jowan was around to suggest it).  We all know how well Alistair reacts to that path.

Edit: And as for his reaction to killing Connor, come to think of it, it's even worse if you back down to Isolde's pleas after facing the Desire Demon upstairs.  She begs you not to kill the boy (after Bann Teagan, Alistair, and every companion but Leliana agrees it's the most reasonable course of action), and the Warden yields.  Alistair still all but calls your Warden a murderer despite wanting to give Connor a chance in the end.  Bah .    Hehe, I really do like Alistair's character most of the game- this is just a rather annoying part
