Just to make the thread cleaner.

Worst ever lets play of the first one can be found here.

Opening cinematic was pretty.  On a dock now with Geralt.  His boat sucks.

An entire, massive portion of the game is completely different based on a choice you make.

I was just paraphrasing Geralt. Soaked boots and all. The boot is clearly of inferior quality.

Combat is certainly more reactive. So far I like the improved sword play, though the signs seem less accessible way over there on the keyboard.

Some basic combat advices for starters :)

Always be on the move, try to attack them villains from the back. It hurts more and they cannot defend and watch your back too because they can backstab you too. Try not to rush into 5-6 numbered groups. Regretfully Geralt forgot group style :/
Dont attack mindlessly and spam only attack buttons. Roll, use traps/bombs and signs. Especially trap sign and mind control sign do wonders in TW2.
Game nearly pauses when you press CTRL, use this for yer advantage.

And be aware in parties, try not to drink too much... >_<

Does 'Q' do the "quickslot" for my signs? That will help out a lot (I am not in combat right now to test)

There is a key that can be assigned to that function, yes. Whether or not it's Q is unkown to me, as i always rebind my shiz.

That was quick, Allan.

I'm interested to hear about combat. I never really found a comfortable style in TW2. I think it was partly because being knocked down made me really disoriented because the minimap rotates. I did quite a lot of running away.

Welcome to the superior version of The Witcher then.
I guess I was the only one to use the igni sign a lot :(

Just going to post this here instead of previous thread since you mentioned it there but created this one after.

The quality of story branching between (specifically) acts 1 and 2 are second to none (imho). The game is not perfect but that is one of best aspects. I hope you enjoy it but can never tell really, personal preference is so diverse even if two people both liked first game they might not have be in same agreement for second.  Oh and I am sure you will love some of the quests and hard choices going by sort of ones you liked from first game.

Good luck and don't forget to import, the effect is not vast but it adds possible enjoyment to the game in small ways. I  don't want to spoil anything but the only thing I will say is I like Iorveths path more than Roches which won't make any sense to you right now (as I do not plan to explain why to avoid spoilers) you wont know why at the moment or who they are etc you will find out on your own in own time. It is a game you need to play through atleast twice taking different paths and different choices due to high quality of story branching.

I am not sure if version you got contains the additional 4+ hours of content that was released (for free) after i bought my copy originally. But make sure you have that added content as it is good enjoyable content along with all the minor free DLC and patches they released which added some funny quests and more.

Regarding combat, if you stun the enemy it allows for nice instant kills (I think most of time). I am also very fond of the skill upgrade that allows multiple instant kills. You will need to use traps, potions, bombs and throwing weapons plus signs quite a bit so it is good to get hang of it and know what each does. Oh and if see enemy next to cliff or ledge use sign to send them flying or such you can knock them off edge, it's quite epic.

My preferred attack style is to aggressively move towards my target and then evade their attack, getting in some free attacks to their back. That, combined with lots of Igni.

Still, I can see why that MMA animated gif is used to make fun of the fighting system XD

Perhaps unsurprisingly, the execution of the themes (i.e. the actual words and writing), seems significantly better. It's easy to see the cinematics and graphics have greatly improved.

Foltest just died, and I finished up my interrogation. Vernon has given me the key, and I am to taunt the guards. This should be fun :)

Would love these games on the PS3, seeing as how my PC isn't up to snuff and I refuse to buy another xbox. Maybe they'll release a collection later. You never know, and a guy can dream...

Aard sign stunning is where it's at ;P
Get the upgrades for it ASAP (the 2nd level AOE effect in particular). It's nice that you can do it so early.

Quen used to make the game effortless and uninteresting. Now I hear it's been nerfed somewhat.
Stops Vigor from regenerating, so the combat is less tactical - you can't block much or cast many signs when using Quen.

Yrden and Axii are way too situational to be mainstays. Was hoping for great things when I fully upgrade Yrden.... lol, no. It's hardly better then the base version. Well you can make 3 traps and they can be connected... but enemies can pass through the connections, never stay on them... so you can't really trap/herd them like I hoped you could. And Axii... yeah, you can charm 3 enemies... by the time you finish enchanting the third, the first will probably be free, so...

By the way when do or did catapult bit if have already (being vague as possible on purpose so not to spoil story in any way), it is worth running down hill from where catapult is and looking around corner near gate at bottom. You get bonus to attacking from behind stat wise and funny scene. It's a easter egg (not literally an egg but gameplay mechanic wise) there is huge amount of such hidden easter egg type things in the game.

Wow, you play fast! Already completed The Witcher 1 and now the prologue of 2. Did you have any trouble running from the dragon? I got chomped on so many times it wasn't funny. The quicktime thing didn't seem to work well in that part, because I never got the sign to indicate I had to click the right mouse button.

I'm near the end of Act I now. At the (second) boss...

Yaaay, Witchaa 2 ! Did you successfully transfer your save file from the original, Allan ? I'm asking because it was kindy wonky for me in the equipment department - lost almost all my money [mah Orens!] and got different swords, though kept the Raven armor [decisions were left intact however].

I agree about the Axii sign but Yrden works great for me if I use a triangle formation without necessarily having to upgrade so I can connect the 3 magical traps.

The choice and consequence system in the game is very, very good and well handled. A lot of the time you won't even realise you just made a choice, said something or took a specific action that impacts something until later in the game see it's repercussions or won't realise that is a consequence of a specific choice (meaning it's not blatent) which makes it feel far more natural than most games handle it. Mass Effect for example almost always consequence are immediate after making a choice, in TW2 some are immediate and some you won't realise impact till later in game plus some both have immediate and a later consequence.

This. One of them happens very early in the game, which I only found out through a walkthrough.

Quen used to make the game effortless and uninteresting.

About right, I may as well have been pulling WoW's Divine Shield for paladins.

Wow, you play fast!

Seconded(Or Thirded?)

Game nearly pauses when you press CTRL, use this for yer advantage.

I used that a great deal as well for switching signs, or just taking a breather to plot out my next move.
