Good luck :)

I really need to play the second fork in the road one of these days...

Only if I wrote a topic about one of my playthroughs and it would get this amount of replies (+Witcher 1) ...

This is basically everything you need to know about how to win at the Witcher 2's combat:

Combat is certainly more reactive. So far I like the improved sword play, though the signs seem less accessible way over there on the keyboard.

Combat feels even better with a gamepad IMO.

Except when trying to use multiple signs in the same encounter.
Navigating shops / inventory is also a pain. Fortunately, the mouse can still be used for that.

I disliked it with a gamepad personally.

Igni in TW2 is much weaker than TW1's (it was op), so I wouldn't recommend investing in it as much, unless you're a pyromaniac.

At this point Igni lets me kite rather effectively (which has been handy as I learn the controls.

I wish the game still let me LOOK at the other skill trees right now, but alas.

Left off with saving some old friends at the gallows. Was fun to catch up.

This game is probably 314159x more slick than the first in many ways. The writing (as in execution) is so much better. Like soooooooooooooooooo much better haha.

So far is it living up to the hype you were so worried about earlier Allan?

I was expecting more of the same from TW1, and so far it's doing better than that from a style and polish level.

Me playing TW1 immediately prior has probably only helped the game's reception.

There are a lot of very good characters in the game, from people do not know for long to long term people will interact with a lot of them leave a lasting impression. By the way when you do the mission regarding sneaking into (a certain place wont say where or when), as you go around back of the house look in the window near floor for amusing scene.

Oh and have you visited the brothel yet? It's very expensive but has a very interesting character there personality wise (imho). If I recall I think they also mock your manhood sometimes.

I just got to Flotsam. Chatted with the gang at the Inn, and then went to investigate the disturbance outside (tentacled sea creature).

After that I called it a night.

Fair enough. I will wait to see how you do tomorrow, where you get to etc. I like that the women in the game are even more strong willed than in TW1, that not all the women in the game treat Geralt as god's gift to them. Will be interesting to know what you think of specific characters and NPC's meet along the way.

There's plenty of little side-quests which you can easily miss, sometimes you just need to relax and embrace the scenery! Sit down, have a drink!

Hang Over quest!
It's easy to miss. After meeting with Loredo, go to the building left of the inn. You'll hang out with blue stripes.
It's hilarious.

Allan: You can keybind all your signs and your swords to your preference from the configurator. Personally I use signs from 1 to 5 ( with Quen being 2 ) and swords on side buttons on my mouse.

As far as the big Act 2 choice and subsequent split, if you intend on playing through the game twice I'd recommend siding with a certain person who has the same voice actor as Ser Jory from DA:Origins for your first playthrough and the other for your second. If you do it that way, I think it saves one of the huge surprises of the last act for your second playthrough.

That's one of my favorite moments in playing The Witcher 2- playing through similar events at the end of the game but with new information I had only gleaned from my second playthrough which colored my first playthrough in a totally different way than I thought.

And the trolls. Trolls in The Witcher 2 are the best.

I didn't play around too much with the configurator.

Since the game has Steam Cloud (/cue angelic light and music) I'll probably sit down for a bit at lunch and play B)

EDIT:  First playthrough is always my "preferred" choices, simply because that's the way I roll.  Unfortunately I haven't heard Jory in probably close to 3 years now, so it wasn't much of a hint anyways lol.

I have a feeling the choice is relatively transparent, but if not I'll ask about it at the end of the first playthrough.

My favorite thing about the Witcher 2 is how you can get killed by a dragon in the first 20 seconds of actual game play. I remember trying to figure out how to block/parry and suddenly getting fire reigned down on me. Damn I had fun with that game...
