My favorite thing is their are two second acts, TWO!!!!

I was all like "They cant do that!"

But they did

and it was great.

I always feel bad going against the human (trying not to spoil) but the other path is pretty pretty pretty good.

I also thought that it wouuld be the same thing with some dialouge changed.
I was shocked.:o

I love how choices don't usually have clear consequences so you really question your decisions as you make them, you never know where it was going to take you. Even on my 2nd play through there was just so much content to explore.

To quote the knight from the Last Crusade: "You have chosen....wisely."

I got the game for 360 (my PC is too primitive for TW2), so I don't know how much of my advice can apply to the PC version, but above all, stay on the move in combat, don't take on more than 3-4 enemies at once, and use the stun, trap, and charm signs often.

As for story, all I'm going to say is sit back and watch how "choice and consequences" should always be done.

Game is more or less the same on 360 and PC.
PC can look better if you put it on high or above though, but PC plays better with a gamepad for this game anyway (at least IMO.)

EDIT:  First playthrough is always my "preferred" choices, simply because that's the way I roll.  Unfortunately I haven't heard Jory in probably close to 3 years now, so it wasn't much of a hint anyways lol.

I have a feeling the choice is relatively transparent, but if not I'll ask about it at the end of the first playthrough.

Haha, I don't want to spoil anything for you, but yeah, you will likely know when you're at the big choice that everyone talks about. Or at least the big choice that leads to more or less completely different Act 2's and somewhat different Act 3's.

Yea, the game pretty much comes as close as possible to flat-out telling you when you're going to make a huge choice with big consequences. You'll know it when you see it and it's impossible to miss.

So, enjoying TW2 more than the first?
I know your still very early in but not to early that you can't give a response I guess.

So far yes, but I find the first one is a game that was lacking in polish in a lot of ways.  The most obvious ways were the cinematics/conversations, which are already significantly better in the second.  Lots of attention to detail in the nuances of the characters (especially Geralt).

Also, for those that are interested, I killed the Baron during the siege in a one on one fight.  I also told that one warrior to wear armor (lol).  He gave me a book about dragons (oooo).

Nice! Did you get it during the GOG sale?

Nah.  I have actually owned both games for quite some time now, on Steam.

This game is probably 314159x more slick than the first in many ways. The writing (as in execution) is so much better. Like soooooooooooooooooo much better haha.

There are some little things I prefer from The Witcher 1. TW1 had a better variety of monsters and played up the whole Witcher angle more. And I found myself missing a nice big city like Vizima in TW2. I'd especially have loved to see a city like Vizima in the Red Engine.

At this point Igni lets me kite rather effectively (which has been handy as I learn the controls.

I wish the game still let me LOOK at the other skill trees right now, but alas.

Left off with saving some old friends at the gallows. Was fun to catch up.

Indeed, I consider the Witcher 2 to be one of few sequels that improved on everything from the previous game. The only other games I feel that way towards are Batman: Arkham City and Gears of War 2.

By the way, the Yrden sign is even more effective at kiting, as it stops the enemy completely for a few seconds. Also gives you a good opportunity for backstabs, which is one of the most effective ways to kill any enemy (+200% damage!).

Which talent tree you planning on using? I used the swords tree in my first playthrough, since it took me a while to master the potions/traps/magic system.

Meh, my Geralt has a preference to use Igni and Aard.

Swordplay, since martial badassery is usually what I like in CRPGs. I fully expect to use throwing daggers more than bombs and traps too.

Convince me to pick up The Witcher 2 Allan. I was going to do so a long time ago, but I never got around to it. Not really motivated to pick it up.

Could always watch Lets Plays.

All this talk about Witcher is making me want to re-play it, goddammit. I've got too many games on my backlog already to desire replaying any, let alone spending days contemplating which path I'd want to take.

@LP: I'd recommend watching this trailer.

Arm wrestling, beating people up, and playing some poker. Good times (and good coin). Although I dislike the changes to the interface for poker.

That surprises me. Is there a particular reason why you chose to kill him instead of talking him down?

Also, here's a funny result if you choose to be stubborn in the Roche interrogation at the beginning of the game:

There is a mod that makes the dice back to how they looked in TW.

Does it affect the mechanics for rolling and selecting the dice?

The look I can get used to (roman numerals).

Wasn't sure if I could. If he agreed, it'd mean fighting one man instead of a dozen. Removes a potential threat later, while showing that I am a (reasonably) honorable one on one combatant.

I think the biggest difference between how I am playing through TW1 and this one is I let the lines play out.
