All BW's D&D games kept character creation though - it's a far bigger step to remove that from a DA, D&D style game than it is create a new franchize ala KOTR or The Witcher.

that's what worries me - that BW + EA seem to be applying this ME template to everything. I know it was a template around before ME, but it seems as if ME financial success has caused the finance men to impose that said template to all games, regardless of their heritage or foundation.

But the ME IP has a CC. It doesn't have a race option, and DA2 didn't have either, but the CC of DAO and DA2 are practically the same.
I can understand the concern on applying ME's template on other Bioware's game, but female PC option isn't in danger because of this, since is present in ME.

I just don't think it's too far a stretch before further corners are cut and we only have 1 option - mainly because it will be cheaper to implement.

Hope that I am wrong, but the way BW has changed over the past few years has been inch by inch, all decisions designed to appeal to a wider audience and make/save as much cash as possible. I think once they find a majorly sellable character they will plug many games based on that one character.

But we'll see, pure speculation on my part my good fellow.

But it wasn't "past few years" at least in terms of race option. Since 2003 they released mostly games without race options. Neither ME or DA2 started this. Since BG2, they released only two single-player game with race option: NWN and DAO. Since BG, they released KOTOR, JE, ME, ME2, DA2 and ME3. Regardless the reason of the change in DA2, making game with no race option is a thing that Bioware started long time ago.
And about the cost, we don't know what cost Bioware more, race options in DAO, or voiced PC in DA2. For all we know, the latter cost more than the former.
About the majorly sellable character, I don't think it'll happen in both ME and DA IP. In a new IP, maybe.

I was very worried about having the female pc option removed after ME3. As long as we have David Gaider though I don't need to worry. He loves strong female characters and values female gamers and staff.

KotOR is based on the D20 Star Wars rules that were published by Wizards of the Coast and are heavily drawn from D&D third edition. So technically KotOR is a D&D style game as well.

and I will be right beside you!
But I am sure there will be a female lead.  I think most of the population of dragon age players are actually female lol.

I thought you might understand by now that every conceivable will be asked at least three times. Even the OP has little doubt but asks anyway :)

<=== is waiting for the inevitable, inexorable question: Will the protagonist be bipedal?

You know it's coming. :wizard:

What makes bioware games like DA and ME cool to play for me is that there is the option to play as a woman! Removing that option might mean I won't be buying it.

Agree.   I doubt if I would pick up a game where I don't have a choice in what my character's sex is.  I do have some male Hawks and Shepards but most of my characters are female.  Not really interested in playing a male.  Had to do that since I started playing on my '83 Nintendo.  Until I found Diable for my mac.  I won't go back to playing a game where I don't have choices.  :)

And she was on the cover. I found the attention given to femshep in ME3's marketing campaign quite encouraging.

The gender I play depends largely on superficial things. In DA:O, it was a lot easier for me to create an attractive female than it was for me to create an attractive male, so most of my Wardens were female. In DA2, improvements to the male face models allowed me to create attractive Hawkes of either gender, so the determining factor became the voice actor. I prefer Nicholas Boulton's voice, so most of my Hawkes were male.

I played indifferently both males and females in DAO (though it's true that is was easier to create an attractive female PC than an good-looking male PC). In DA2, I finished only one, but for my canon I'll go with male. I don't like much the female VA too. Nichoulas Boulton did a good job, in my opinion.

That's interesting.  I cringe when I try to play a male Hawke because I don't like the way the diplomatic and sarcastic VA sounds- but I really like the female version.

Probably because Shepard was seen as more predefined in that game.  Predefined protagonist has a high chance of meaning male protagonist.

Of course, DA team isn't ME team.

No females
No race options

We will all be a bald, 25 - 30 year old, white male who points his weapon at the screen while looking in another direction.

For now. In the future they may want to further streamline the games so as not to confuse the straight male CoD player they're trying to entrap. Having the option to choose a female PC will confuse and infuriate Mr. Dudebro and make him question his sexuality leading to him beating his head against the wall until his brains ooze out and he is unable to buy future titles.

And this kind of snark is hardly necessary, thanks.

The forums are for discussion. Attempting to be 'clever' in this fashion does not contribute to constructive discussion and will be handled appropriately in the future.
