Just curious, if Isabela isnt black, then what is she?
Mediterranean? Spitballing there, but it's obvious to me she isn't black. At least in real-world terms.

Its a legitimate question, and not one I would consider out of line either. If someone told me bioware was going to make a fantasy based rpg that did not have race selection I would not have believed them at one point in time, so there you go.
Rivaini, which I always interpreted to be more swarthy Mediterranean European but oh well.Milan92 wrote...

Not in real-world terms? Really? Thats weird since I actually know a black girl that has her facial structure.

A caucasian with black spray paint?

Why is this even a question? Of course you can play a female protagonist.

I'd ask the same thing as Lord Aesir did. Is she a half-breed?
(and don't get offended, I'm one--I'm not being mean, that's just what I call it)
Black people have coarse hair. High cheekbones. Likely other structural things I'm missing.

Personal curiosity--was her hair coarse or smooth?
I have a minor theory on the coarse hair gene that involves the genders of the parents.

They sure aren't. Though we've only seen what, like two Rivani? Maybe with a new engine more accommodating to racial nuance, we'll see more of, and learn more about them.EntropicAngel wrote...
Black people in Thedas aren't like black people IRL, then, I guess. Handy to know.

More data huh? Really dude, just be honest if you want to jerk yourself off at a picture of my girlfriend. Its so much easier that way.

What the telemetry data shows is irrelevent, Bioware's decisions are not based purely on the data, if any of them are based on it at all.Nefla wrote...
Ok, without sarcasm: Maybe future stories can only be told through a male perspective as DA2 and DA3 can only be told through a human perspective. Maybe they will decide the extra time and resources adding a fully voiced female option are not worth it and cut the option. Their telemetry data shows that most people played a human male warrior in DA:O for example, why waste resources on something most people will never use? The data also shows that most people don't finish games let alone do additional playthroughs and a huge percentage of male players would never play a female character anyways because they "can't identify" with a woman. The percentage of women who would refuse to play a fixed male character and thus refuse to buy a game with one is much smaller. A lot of things that had been a draw and a staple in previous games are being cut and streamlined in favor of trying to entice new audiences and get games out quicker, so at this point I doubt anything is off the chopping block. You may be able to choose your gender now, but who knows how much streamlining will affect future games. I never thought there would be a Mass Effect without exploration, being able to shape your Shepard, and a stirring ending where you come out victorious or a Dragon age where you can't choose a race or background, where the world is no longer grand, intriguing, and beautiful, but times change. I think "will I be able to play a female protagonist" is a valid question.
