This is a question for all of you who think the Saber is a good gun. Why do you think that? What quality does it have over the other ARs that makes it a "good" gun? If you think it's a good gun I'd like to compare it to the Paladin for a bit. The only thing that the Saber has over the Paladin is a bigger clip size (and more spare ammo), and even that doesn't matter so much because the Paladin's reload time isn't long at all.
So let's look at the stats here, here's the most 2nd most recent balance change for the Paladin, but I figured the encumbrance change was insignificant, as it was only a .25 change on the front end, and for our purposes we'll be looking at each gun at X.
Paladin Heavy Pistol
- Damage increased from [389.9-487.4] to [424.9-531.1]
- Encumbrance decreased from [1.5-0.9] to [1.25-0.7]
- Magazine Size decreased from 4 to 3
- Spare Ammo increased from [16-26] to [21-33]
And here's the Saber; ( I inserted a previous balance change to show the encumbrance difference.)
Saber Assault Rifle
- Base damage increased from [427.9-534.8] to [460-575]
- Encumbrance decreased from [2.0-1.4] to [1.7-1.4]
So let's look, the Paladin's damage is only 45 points away from the Saber's, while it's encumbrance is 50% of that of the Saber. And people say that the Saber is a "marksman" rifle, and if you're not headshotting you're doing it wrong and you need to lrn2play. BUT, the Saber's damage from a headshot is 1437 points of damage (assuming no gear or amps) , and if you were making this argument, then the Paladin has a much better mod for headshotting, allowing the Paladin's damage to be over 1800, which is a substantial difference, not even accounting for the superior fire rate and significantly lower recoil.
The Paladin also has several other good mods (specifically the Heavy Barrel), whereas the AR class has very mediocre mods (like the AR High Velocity Barrel), so where's the advantage in using the Saber over the Paladin?
TL;DR I think the Paladin is superior to the Saber (still) and I want someone to explain otherwise.
