If I grasp the history correctly, there were 5 blights already (including the one which takes place during the game). If each blight ends by defeating an Archdemon that means (I think) there are 2 Blights to go. If so, was DAO planned as a duology? Was that fact stated somewhere earlier, I'm really curious.
Between each blight there are couple centuries of "peace", so the last one can be as 600-800 years ahead in time. Then again, maybe darkspawn will come more quickly since this blight lasted a year maybe; previous raged for decade or so (each) and the darkspawn were cut down almost to the leg (dunno if this saying exists in english - sorry :)) - much more time needed to multiply again; with vast losses on both sides - not to mentioned the lands that suffered the plague/blight.
I suppose there were enough darkspawn left to do some "quickened" archeological excavating...
And what would happen if the Gray Wardens succeed in finding and waking the Dragon before darkspawn? Would it be a new companion?  ;)
Seriously, what do you think?

i think that although the darkspawn is the main aim of the game, if it wanted to continue further it could make a new threat entirely, for example a new type of darkspawn, or demons invading from the fade, or just a classic war with a neighbouring nation like Orlais

it doesn't have to end how you'd expect, the options are literally limitless and its all down to the writers really

either way this is a fantastic game

Well, who sais you have to be a GW in every sequel? Besides chantry lore could be wrong.

Weell...you accually need the wardens to end each blight...you know?

But lets agree, writers can come up with anything, the trick is to keep it beliveable and coherent, at least with the "suspended belief" (if I'm right, that is what its called) in motion.

And earlier I ment trilogy, not duology (forgot to count the current game).

I read somewhere that David Gaider said that it's unlikely that any future full sequel such as DA 2 or DA3 would revolve around another blight.

Which is fine, seeing how the Thedas world is very rich. I think it would be better if DA 2 delved into the Tevinter vs Qunari war than say, the 6th Blight.
