With consideration of leap years, we should already be dead. And considering the Mayans couldn't predict their own downfall? Pretty frakking stupid to assume the end of their calendar accurately predicts the end of the world. Logically, its simply the turn over to the new millennium.

In addition - who the hell in their right mind sunddely decides to predict the end of the world in a calendar anyway?

I would like to add that Gregorian leap years have no effect on the Mayan Long Count. It's not that "we've already past the point where the world should have ended". The Long Count doesn't work like that. Basically it's a running total of the days since the Maya held creation to have begun. The fact that they ignored leap years is irrelevant, because it's not a roughly solar or seasonal calendar like the Gregorian or their own Haab calendar.

Basically, between December 21st and December 24th (we don't actually -know- which specific day, for a couple of reasons), the 12th b'ak'tun will roll over into the 13th. And that's it. Just the end of one 144,000 day cycle (394.26 years) and the beginning of another. A day of celebration for the Maya that are still around, but nothing more. The last one passed in 1618 with little fanfare.

^ As said its between the 21st and the 24th. Funny enough the way some issues around it are going worldwide, I would not be surprised to see Mass Suicides and religious cults spring up around it.

And I'm not overly concerned with it, However I am with various issues that may or are pretty much even chances to happen in 2013-15, everything from the current issues the western media doesn't cover in reguards to China, Russia, and the West in the Mid-East. Which I won't cover given this sites rules, needless to say its very concerning. And the Solar flare activity, which most civies ignore thanks to the Mayan BS, while a number of nations are building Early Warning sites and a number of plans in place to deal with the...aftermath of the worse case scenerio. It also has alot to do with the current weather patterns.

Personally I rather hope at the least the smartphones and GPS systems go offline. It would force people to see the world again, plus some people are so in need of those things its like watching a druggie in need of crack.

See the latter part of the sentence regarding people hatin.

Sidenote: That video is freaking awesome. That's how you do it. Science is fun. Wimpiest solar cycle in the last 50 years. LOL

The paranoia and sheer hilarity of the next two days are going to be fun. See how many people freak out. xD

QFT.

Yo academics, don't be optimistic and think absolutely nothing will happen in the next months and years because this is a Mayan BS.

And if that ends up failing, can't go wrong with going back 3 days iin time with the Song of Time. BTW anyone know what actually happens when you play Oath to Order on the clock tower with only 3 or less giants? Never tried it.

They can't stop the moon and you have to go back again.

I'll be like "Dang and I called them stupid"

Then I'll sit and have a smoke with Kurt Cobain on a fluffy cloud.

Huh, neat.

BTW, what i find really shocking/hilarious is that we're on the second page and no one pointed out the error in the title. (even me) it's the 21st, not the 21th!

Hope you all have a horrible and violent death during the impending apocalypse.

Thank you.

Meteor shower... that is disturbing. I figured we'd go out with a zombie apocalypse... at least that I have a chance to survive.

Nah I stopped the threat and saved the world some years ago but I die in another 500 years and the next "disaster of Sol" event occurs in another 501 years, 1 year after my death. The last "disaster of Sol" event that occurred before the one I stopped occurred tens of hundreds of thousands of years ago and lead to Mars becoming an uninhabitable planet and almost wiped out humanity (humanity is older than 200,000 years old). Hopefully a new hero arises one year after my death to save the world but tbh the world has had its run.

Google "The Great Catastrophe of Sol bioware" for more information. You short-lived humans have nothing to worry about though but your 6x descendants have much to worry about also due to the fact that the second Galactic Chaos Circle begins in approximately 501 years. The first GCC almost destroyed all life within the galaxy. Since you illiterate unscientific whelps are rather behind in terms of science compared to my destroyed civilization on Venus I'll have to educated you on what the GCC is. The GCC is when the Galaxy spins at such a speed that the light barrier is broken and time and space are ripped apart. This means that the Galaxy itself is almost destroyed in the progress and takes one million years to recover. Potentially it could be destroyed altogether and simply form a super giant black hole x10 the size of the one at the center of our Galaxy already.
