Theory 1: Freelance Ancient Aliens have told the Mayans something about their arrival, a disaster or something.
Theory 2: Their Calender is a Galactic sign, very difficult to interpret.
Theory 3: Mayan Calender sucks!

Dammit, it's a heathen foretelling! No true believer, believes in that bloody 'Mayan' prediction. Only God knows the end of the world or better to say: "when the God presses the red button"! ... *sez a deist to p*ss off da atheists*
Well at least the scientifically inclined atheists will agree that the world *is* going to end eventually. This planet will anyway.
But not this coming Friday. We still get to have nice holidays

Nope. Expect doomsayers in 2029 or whatever as well, because of an asteroid that has a 1 in 250,000 chance to hit us or whatever.
I think the chance of it hitting earth was 1:37 (peak) at one time.
If nothing unexpected happens the asteroid will miss earth the first time but it will return 7 years later with a MUCH higher probability of hitting earth thanks to earths gravity influence on the rock during its first fly-by. Its not a global killer though, its just 270 meters in diameter and to wipe out earth you'd need a 1km+ rock.
Just enough to wipe out a couple of cities and shake earth a little (if its not made of 100% tungsten, now that would be bad)

But really the world won't end, the Mayan calendar ends the same way your average calendar does on the 31st of December.

Sure! But... there's a catch. You have to will have to collect it. Since we'll be busy dying, we won't be able to send them.Beerfish wrote...
Hey Australians, can we have your things if you go down 1st?
Haven't heard of anyone dying yet, though.
