Played through DAO the other week and just now started a DA2 playthrough.
In Dragon Age Origins there is a function to swap between two weapon setups funny thing though in DAO I never felt the need to use this function.
But in Dragon Age 2, there is no such function and playing on Nightmare I feel like I could really use one.
There are lot more resistant enemies in DA2 and playing on higher difficulties it's important to use weapons with different attack element or you will have a much harder time then neccessary.
Weapon swaps would help keep the combat flowing when we don't have to pause combat by entering the inventory to change weapons.
Please, bring back weapon swap.

Yes please.
I liked to switch between bow and daggers for rogue, but it was more hassle than it should be.
edit: NWN allowed you to equip weapons via quickbar slot. That could work too.

Personally, that would be my preference. It let you set up multiple weapon combinations using the same weapon/shield (so like weapon a/weapon b, weapon a/weapon c, weapon a/shield a, weapon b/shield a) which wasn't possible with other Bioware games, and is a feature I miss in them (though it's admittedly less of an issue due to not requiring certain damage types versus certain enemies.)Wulfram wrote...

Yes! I miss swapping my characters between my their melee and ranged weapons.

Couldn't agree more. The NWN custom weapons sets would be the ideal, but even just the swap from DA:O would be really nice.

Totally agree. And if the quickbar changed even better.

A quick weapon swap would be great - it would let you adjust to different encounters and elemental resistances better.

Should just have a menu screen where you have multiple "loadouts" or something where you make a set of abilities and weapons to use at a given time, that can be changed like that.

Yes, I can't believe this was omitted in DA2.

I also like weapon swap. What if a dragon lands on the other side of a canyon? I like the idea of bosses moving around. And ideally more than your mages and archers would have the flexibility to, um, have the reach.

It's funny; in origin, I never used weapon swap.
But in part 2, I actually needed it and did not have it.

It was a pretty useless function that I don't miss.

Quickbar swap was the best swap.

I hope that when you switch weapons, you are allowed to switch skills as well. I want to set up different skill to use with different weapons. Whenever I switch from bow to meelee weapons, half of my skills become useless.

I loved this function! I sometimes think I'm the only weirdo out here who frequently switches between ranged and melee and makes heavy use of traps. Please bring back teh quick switch... I'll bake you all some delicious Internet cookies if you do...

I think they thought of it as no longer needed, due to characters now only learning one weapon based abilities. But I used it for storage, when you're looting you don't have any warning that you're almost out of room. In Origins when it said I ran out of room, I put what I could in secondary weapons, finished up what I was doing, and went to town. In DA2, if I was in a random encounter, or a place I couldn't get back to, and it said I ran out of room, it was basically saying: "Oh well".

Swords not bows!

Ah, agree with this; one of the few things I liked better in DA:O! My favorite weapon to play with is the bow, so it would be nice to able to also have a pair of daggers equipped and to fight with those when someone gets too close. (And not the weak "generic" daggers that archers get in DA2.)

That would give a HUGE boost to non-mages, because you'd be able to convert yourself from a melee damage dealer to a killer archer to a reasonably effective tank class by reassigning your skills at the click of a button.
Meanwhile the mage is stuck with their choices and can't think "Sod...wish I'd picked that huge AoE spell up now that fifty genlocks are rushing at me through a small corridor...oh, wait, I'll just press a button, pull out my other staff and...there we go, AoE blast of doom."
Unless skills were made incredibly less important (not likely, given the 'awesomeness' boost they got in DA2), this would effectively remove all need to make choices between how to specialise your character. Everyone would be able to do any role at any time.

I actually suggested that in the suggestion thread, including giving every class a viable ranged alternative. Archer chasing is not much of a hobby...

I agree weapon swap was awesome. I loved being able to switch my units to long range when the oppertunity to set up a trap/ambush was available.

Yes!
I really missed this in DA2, even though I understand why it was considered unnecessary, given the kinds of builds that were encouraged. I'd much rather have the game/skills set up to reward equipping a melee weapon for hand-to-hand fighting in any case.

It's a useful feature that I would like to see return. I found that it was best implemented in Obsidian's KOTOR II, at least from a console gamer's perspective. Was there a hotkey for in the PC version of Dragon Age: Origins?
