On higher difficulties I wouldn't consider it unnecessary (in DA2). Even if I specialize in only one combat style, I want to bring along more then one weapon due to enemy resistances.huwie wrote...
Yes!
I really missed this in DA2, even though I understand why it was considered unnecessary, given the kinds of builds that were encouraged. I'd much rather have the game/skills set up to reward equipping a melee weapon for hand-to-hand fighting in any case.
Yes it is possible to bind a hotkey for it in DAO.The Teryn of Whatever wrote...
It's a useful feature that I would like to see return. I found that it was best implemented in Obsidian's KOTOR II, at least from a console gamer's perspective. Was there a hotkey for in the PC version of Dragon Age: Origins?

I loved this function! I sometimes think I'm the only weirdo out here who frequently switches between ranged and melee and makes heavy use of traps. Please bring back teh quick switch... I'll bake you all some delicious Internet cookies if you do...
This reminds me of something Isabela said:
"If you shove your thumb up his ass, I win"
Unfortunately, Isabela often had her thumb up her own ass, while the rest of party fought the enemy kiting from afar, avoiding a headlong assault into the teeth of the enemy defenses and traps.
Not using all companions to fight at rangealso reminds me of a DAO loading screen:
"Remember to always flank your enemies. History will not care how dramatic your failed frontal assault looked."
As for the internet cookies ... I regret to inform you that Sten already devoured them.

^I giggled
I know! It's sound tactical advice, and was unfortunately, mostly, impossible in DA2. Weapons swap would help, so would the afore mentioned idea to be able to switch tactics along w/ weapons. Also... I want my traps back!!!! Wahhhh!!!!Not using all companions to fight at rangealso reminds me of a DAO loading screen:

Dammit Sten!!! I told you.. those were for the devs!As for the internet cookies ... I regret to inform you that Sten already devoured them.

I am fed up with the tired tank, aggro, healer concept. Let me design my character as I see fit!

Meanwhile the mage is stuck with their choices and can't think "Sod...wish I'd picked that huge AoE spell up now that fifty genlocks are rushing at me through a small corridor...oh, wait, I'll just press a button, pull out my other staff and...there we go, AoE blast of doom."
Actually, I would like to let Anders swap staves when he shifts between Panacea and Vengeance, and for more broadly skilled Mages it could generally come in handy to change out elemental bonuses.

I have absolutely no problem with the principle of weapon-swapping as a method of changing the elemental bonuses you have (these are often relatively minor impacts), or of switching to an off-spec version of your class (e.g. a warrior pulling out a bow if there's a reason they need to keep at range for a bit). This is not currently so relevant for mages.
To be clear, I'd like to see weapon swapping returning, although I think Bioware is going down the "you need to focus on one specialism, and lets not give you distractions" route with skill assignment.
What I had a socking great objection to was the bizarre suggestion that switching weapons should allow you to reset and reassign your skills on the fly so that you could switch between being an awesome tank, awesome archer or awesome melee DPS at the touch of a button.
