Possible reason as to why they are relunctant to give up on robes. Insight from from Happy-Awakenings-Bro-Anders and Oghren.

yes, we need everything believable, we are not fools

and game industry technology is not 10 years past, how come this millennium technology cannot give something believable? lack of resource is not an excuse, but lack of effort and laziness...

Ser Bryant in Lothering Chantry can recognize The Warden is a Mage, Cullen not recognize at all after witnessing Hawke casting spells, wearing mage robe and carrying mage staff in front of him...what the hell? That means the devoloper overlook that, using the very same damn dialogue for all characters

the whole point of playing a GAME is to suspend believibility, not to bloody take it with you when your trying to get away from it

believability is "something make sense"

Hawke as apostate wearing robe and staff, casting spells in front of a Templar, and that Templar don't say anything and later don't even realize Hawke is apostate is UNBELIEVABLE

When it is unbelievable it is unrealistic

Don't use "in magical world, some people can fly" argument here, because that is different issue

It is a big deal, UNLESS Hawke is recognized as an apostate who work with the Templar

Like i mention, only in Act 3 it can be justified when Meredith who give the Champion title to Hawke

I think people aren't bothered so much about the believability as they are about consistency.

They have a point about how stupid and unrealistic how other characters does not recognise you as a mage when you clearly shown that you are a mage but do not get rid of Mage Robes or staves they are awesome

At the end of Act 2, Hawke meet Meredith and Meredith say "I know you"...then saying she overlook on Hawke using magic that time, because they all busy defending the city from Qunari

It never explained on why Hawke can live freely in Kirkwal as apostate, like in the other post, yes Hawke is a Noble with riches, but in the game it never show that Hawke is ACTUALLY POWERFUL NOBLE in Act 2, richer than a King

So, it kills believability. Only when Meredith say "I know you.." spark some sense and then Meredith who give the title to Hawke because of her own reason, i say because Hawke is a valuable ally at that time, but in anyway there is no where explaining why Meredith give that Champion title and let Hawke free until the Last Straw

If side with Circle Mage, Meredith say "I am disappointed with you..." if Hawke is Pro-Templar all the time, if side with Templar, Meredith say something that look like she want to put all blames on Hawke making Hawke a scape goat at the end

If Hawke is anti-Templar for the whole time as apostate, then the whole game is ridiculous, unbelievable and unrealistic.

I think would be no less ridiculouss to have them all put on some pants or shorts before running away as would be to have all wearing robes. I imagine most do not have time to go shopping for new clothes if they just escaped. Some should be still wearing robes and some might be not wearing some.

Lack of resources is a very valid excuse, unless you want to drop on BioWare's HQ and give them money for additional content. I'm sure they'll appreciate it, for all the good it'll do, since they also have a time budget.

Well, it's possible that more people than mages wear robes. But in that case, we should probably see some of them.

Right. The problem isn't that mages wear robes, it's that only mages wear robes.

I think it's ridiculous for mages to wear floor-length robes generally, it's one of the more irritating tropes of fantasy fiction for me, and I curse the day it was first written.

Why is it ridiculous for mages to wear robes?

By the Maker - everyone knows that iron fusion requires more energy than is practical to sustain thereby interfering with the casting of spells.

Even metal buttons can cause havoc on a mages capacity to maintain stable levels of mana. So shirts are out - as are any button requiring pants.

This is so 1st year Circle stuff... gah... how did any of you ever make it through your Harrowing?

I think one of the biggest annoyances for me was the fact you could walk around Kirkwall with a party full of mages (including yourself), and not a single Templar took notice. So either it was unrealistic and broke immersion, or the Templars are the dumbest beings in the entire world of Thedas. Either way, it was one area that needs tweaking for the next game.

Erm, quite a lot of staves are metal. Most blatantly Malcolm's Honor.
