Yesterday I finally bought NWN Diamond from GOG.com! Any tips or stuff I should know prior to playing? Glitches to avoid? Extra patches/content to install? I played NWN2 a long time ago, so I know the basic mechanics and whatnot.
Just bought the game!

Don't be put off by the mediocre official campaign - a lot of user modules are great.

How about you put a sock in your mouth and let people make their own assessment of the Official Campaign.
@OP
Welcome to the wonderful Neverwinter Nights community. Just jump right in the Official Campaign as there
is nothing you really need to know that is of big importance. If you have never played Neverwinter Nights
before but have played NWN2, then I'll just tell you that you do not have complete/Full control of your companions
in Neverwinter Nights. You have a limited control over them.
That aside Enjoy and Good gaming. Comeback with any question you might have at anytime.

This will be an invaluable resource for you as a player:
http://nwn.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Page
And a note about multiplayer in case you don't want to wade through all the other threads on here to figure out what is going on. The master server was shut down, so ignore that message if you are trying to connect. Also gamespy service also got discontinued, so to connect you have to use the direct connect feature for a PW. Alternatively (and highly recommended), get xfire. It has a fairly complete server list, and you can connect to any of those servers using the program.

Bought my copy last week. Back in the day, Diablo 2 kept me from getting into NWN. Then I got NWN2 and got sucked into WoW. I ended up Ebaying both games. Now I'm up and running with NWNCQ, NWShader and forced 16X AA thanks to CCC (this does cut the FPS a bit though). Also, I recommend getting the latest community patch which is 1.71 according to the readme but it shows 1.70 on all the logos you see around. Grab CEP or Project Q for access to their respective content and you are good.
To put it simply, they don't make games like this any more. Who knows maybe DA3 will get back to the roots of super deep, story driven, open world top down tactical RPGs. If not there is always Project Eternity.

I would agree with Jpnole that hak content really lets the game shine and demonstrates how the community has pushed this game far beyond what it it was ever concepted to be by the developers.
Multiplayer worlds, if they use haks, will point you to where you can download them. I think the first stop is to find what kind of online world interests you (roleplay or action, for example) and then find a world of that type that looks interesting. Then, download the haks. As mentioned above CEP and Q are probably the most common.

If you can play it multi player across a LAN with people you know it gets a LOT more fun, too. I enjoyed the OC playing through with my wife. It isn't exactly tuned for MP but we had a LOT of fun doing it. It really is an exceptional game

Welcome to the community, I have found that the community as
a whole has a tendency to help each other with answering questions. I am a fan of the PRC as it adds a large amount
of content into the game to offer a larger number of options on the player
side. More classes, Prestige classes, Spells galore, feats, Sub races, and
more. http://prc.athasreborn.com/index.php
is the link to its forum. It’s something to think about when you have played
through all the OC a few times as different classes.
I hope you enjoy the OC stuff and not to mention all the Community
made content on the Vault Link. But enjoy and find the thing that we all find
with the game to become so devoted to this old game.

Actually I would recommend the OP play through the two expansions after completing the OC. T'would make sense what with him/her buying the deluxe edition. The final expansion (Hordes of the Underdark) is rather on par with Baldur's Gate IMO at least in terms of story and characters.
