$40 for a retail disc of what could be an easy $20 DLC?  I was all for supporting the 2 years of DLC for this game and then they have to come out with a $40 retail expansion?  I can hardly agree with this.  I have a couple of questions, will this be available as DLC?  Will this have its own achievements or will this affect my DA:O gamerscore?  Is the
expansion going to have DLC as well?  Will I have to buy 2 packs of DLC every 3 months, one for the main game and one for the expansion or will they be compatible with either.  Maybe after Ostagar the DLC for DA:O stops then it picks up for the expansion, to force you to buy the $40 before experiencing any other DLC.  Will they ever fix the achievement glitch for the original 360 DLC?  I am still unable to obtain A Rock and a Hard Place.

Bleh, I am disgusted and don't plan on picking up ME2 or SWTOR until the glitch in this game is fixed.  I am very tired of being screwed over here.  That is $200+ dollars of my future money that I guess I can save.

Not really, in my country a new game often costs 80-100$

How did you come to this conclusion?

Yeah no. Why would I get angry about a game I don't need and aren't forced to buy? If you think it's too expensive don't buy it.

Should I picket the local Bugatti dealership for making expensive cars?

Housing, Food, Power - that might get a rise outta me.

Take it up with EA, nothing to do with Bioware...they don't price things....so heading over to the EA forums would be your bes bet to complain.

Expansions shouldn't have any affect on DLC, the only requirement for either is having the base game installed.

For example, you don't have to have stone prisoner to have warden's keep, it's all just optional additional game content. The only difference is the scale of the additional content, Awakening is said to have about 15 hours additional content, as opposed to 30-90 minutes for a DLC.

If Awakening is anything near as good as the base game, then the price
will be well worth it.  One play through may only be 15 hours, (which
for me will usually be half that, DA:O only took me about 30 hours to
complete on my first run through, despite doing almost all of the side
quests).  I base the value of something on the entertainment aspect,
not how long it takes me to make use of it, and I am sure that I'll do
multiple play throughs, which will exponentially increase the time
played factor.

40 dollars for 15 hours... that breaks down to about $2.66 an hour.

Or...
5 matinee movies with run times averaging 2 hours each at 8 bucks a
pop.  Total of 10 hours of movie time.  That's about 4 dollars an hour
there.  Or if you go in the evening, that'll be an extra couple bucks,
so you might only get to go to 4 movies for 40 bucks.

So, by
buying a 40 dollars expansion for DA:O, instead of going to the movies,
you're getting 5 additional hours of entertainment originally, plus you
have the option of going back and replaying it later, while with
watching the movies, once you've seen it, your ticket is worthless.

The Shivering Isles for Oblivion was 2400($30), so that is $30 for 30 hours of gameplay, roughly $1 an hour and DLC.

Now we are looking at ($40) for 15 hours of gameplay which is $2.67 an hour and we have to buy a disc?

How lame.

Or we can just wait for the Game of the Year edition with all expansions and dlc for $50. I might just do that since I only invested so far in the Warden's Keep and my Stone Prisoner is still glitched. There was a good reason for shelving the game. It has been out now for several months and still no fix by EA/Bioware.

I am not too thrilled with the $40 price tag.

Its what happens to these great companies like BioWare are infiltrated by the big bad EA.

Not sure... but a quick check on the front page for the other three, or more, threads with this topic might hold the answer.

I've thought of this a few times, but do people not understand the difference between DLC and an expansion?

to OP

From your questions I can see that you (and all of us really) do not know much about the expansion right now, yet you are already upset at the price. How does that make any sense?

I could be excited about a patch to fix my 360 Achievements, then I can start playing my game again. Right now instead I have been working on Shadow Complex, Borderlands, and Saboteur until I get word that my Achievements are fixed. When it comes to RPGs I spend a lot of time working on Achievements etc. Actually I still need to finish up Oblivion too, maybe I will work on a better game.

I agree. 15h of gameplay is too short. "Throne of Baal" for example had 35h of gameplay minimum.

I'm not even gonna bother with it. Knowing EA there will be a GOTY edition with all the DLC for the same price I got the game for.
