Be creative and fight dirty like a TRUE rogue - don't forget about the tools of the trade.

Have
your party HOLD in strategic positions outside a room full of
enemies... Sneak into the room and set TRAPS in front of them. Choose
your victims carefully... I like to take out the mages and / or
archers. Then back up a few steps and toss a GREANDE (Acid flasks are
cheap and plentiful). If the enemies are clustered together, several of
them will take damage.

Then they'll run at you, setting off your
carefully placed traps. Several types of traps (shrapnel, shock, acid,
etc) have an area effect, so again multiple enemies will take damage.
The beauty of this technique is that if you attack them with a grenade,
even though they run towards you, they usually don't DETECT you. You're
still sneaking, and combat hasn't started! You can do the whole process
over again!

I've killed whole rooms full of enemies like this.
If you're conserving your traps and bombs, just use this tactic once,
then sneak back to the doorway and hit the strongest enemy in the room
with an arrow and then run back out. The enemies will come rusihing out the doorway
to be ambushed by your entire party (be sure to turn the party HOLD
back to MOVE FREELY) right as they come out the door. Or you can BACKSTAB the most damaged enemy, don't forget to POISON your blade first!  That makes the run for the door and the awaiting ambush a touch more exciting.

Another variation I've played with is to set a lot of Spring Traps (this would work with grease traps too) just outside the door so most of the enemies fall down as they chase you out, making your ambush even more devastating.  I'm sure I'll be building on these tactics as I gain higher level talents and abilities.

Part of the fun of being a rogue is to play creatively and use your wits to heap damage on your enemies before they know what hit 'em.  Anybody else got any dastardly tricks to share?

I love the idea of this tactic, but I don't like the fact that if combat DOESN'T start, the enmies regenerate, ruining your carefully planned attack!!

I find that a Rogue is a great way to AVOID combat entirely.

If you have Stealth tier II or III, you can HOLD the party at the entry point. Using just the Stealthed Rogue, you can literally brush up against any enemies that are NOT Bosses (Emissaries or higher) and they won't detect you. You can also disable traps and pick locks (NOT pockets!) and remain undetected.

But the real kicker is that you can freely traverse an entire map, and the ONLY thing that pops you out of Stealth is a set-piece cutscene. In which case the remainder of your is miraculously teleported to where the Rogue is, WITHOUT having to battle every frickin' enemy in between.

If the Rogue has Stealth tier IV, he/she can actually go into Stealth during combat -- provided the Rogue is not currently in LOS to an enemy. And remember that a backstab while Stealthed is an automatic critical.

Or you could just use the console and blow through everything even faster. Better yet, get the toolset and mod yourself 99999 DR armor and 99999 damage weapons.

Ah, but the difference is that using my method is within the parameters of the game, as is. Whereas your approach calls for jigging the program. (That is, break the rules, instead of just bending them.)

I'm on a PC. Are the party characters so awesome on the console that they don't have to worry about running headlong into foes more powerful than them?

The console being referred to is only available for PC'ers. Basically it's the mechanism for using cheat debugging codes.

One involves using something unintended by the developers to make the game easier, and the other involves using something unintended by the developers to make the game easier.

this is clearly an EXPLOIT. You can use it of course, but it is a way of cheating. Cheat if you want but be honest   ;)

Well to be honest, I just use the Stealth to fully explore what's in front of me. Then I use the info to optimally engage the enemies I found. (Really don't want to miss out on that XP, after all. PLUS loot.) I see "scouting" this way to be reasonably legitimate.

I love these tactics! Too bad that they would take too much time/resources to be worth it for most of the combats in the game. Still once in a while... why not? Sounds great fun!

I also like to stealth ahead of the party with my Rogue, but I usually only assasinated mages and/or soloed small-to-mid groups of enemies in melee using Coup-de-Grace, Dirty Fighting, Riposte and Pinpoint Strikes (the last one with Dual Striking).
Still was a lot of fun. Wasn't that much fun if the mage didn't die fast enough and managed to Misdirection Hex/Curse of Mortality/Crushing Imprison my char though ;)

Too bad the trap components(especially damage traps) are in short supply.

The trap plans themselves cost a good handful, and if you want enough traps to get you through a single dungeon, you'll need a serious buttload of them.

And considering that a mass majority of fights that might actually call for such tactics will usually force you out of Stealth(cutscenes, random encounters, and scenarios where you encounter a Revenant), this is more for amusement than anything else.

Despite the fact that I have mastered Trap-Making on my DW Rogue with mastered Stealth and finished all but one of the major sidequests, I have yet to actually attempt this. Mostly because the only sidequest left is the Dwarves, in which I need to progress to a certain extent in order to get to Ruck, who sells infinite lifestones for the Acidic Trap, which is the only damage trap you can make in any large quantities due to the fact that all the other damage trap components have limited supplies.

Thus ending my rant <_<
