There are a few examples of Darkspawn that actually have hair. The two that spring to mind would be Utha and The Mother. Normally Darkspawn don't have a single strand of hair on their heads. I recall from Dragon Age The Calling that Utha loses her hair during a process that rapidly speeds up the progression of the taint in her system. Its really just a minor detail, and really piqued my curiosity.

Both Utha and The Mother are types of ghouls, which aren't darkspawn.

Hair loss does seem to be a symptom of the taint, but it's not an absolute rule. I've seen numerous ghouls that still had bits of hair or fur.

However, darkspawn don't have any hair that I can see. (I'd rather not examine a dead naked darkspawn to see if they're totally hairless.)

Personally, I'm not a fan of Darkspawn with hair -- well, the idea of Genlocks having scraggly beards in the concept art wasn't too bad.

This depiction of a Hurlock wouldn't make a bad looking Ghoul, really, if a few things were added to the face. And if you gave this Hurlock depiction a lot of much needed tweaking, it'd be... acceptable to me.

Since the original species have hair, I don't find it odd that the darkspawn versions of them would have some vestigial hair as well.

Hair loss is an expectant symptom living being undergoing the transformation of becoming a Ghoul. Utha's transformation in the calling in no uncertain terms it states: "... and what wisps remained of her hair simply fell out". As I recall Genevieve and Bregan also undertook similar processes that stripped them of there hair follicles. My guess would be that it helps distinguish the Female Taint Sufferers from the Male Taint Sufferers.
