Do you think it's viable to go on a Subway diet? I have been doing it for 3 days. One 6 inches for lunch and the other for dinner. I also have a Jamba juice with 300 calories for flavor and extra nutrients. I go on a treadmill for half an hour which expend around 300 calories a day. I would assume there's some afterburn which would eat up into the 1000 calories from Subway.

Eating the same stuff everyday could be tiring.

You should try making your own food if you're serious about it.

I try to avoid having too many food in the house since I have very bad self-control, especially at night. I'm thinking of making my meal plan since it's cheaper, but I'm not good at measuring calories in food though.

I'm trying to make up a meal plan with 800-1000 calories a day and with the treadmill, it will be 500 calories a day. Hopefully, I can lose enough weight in 3 weeks before the quarter begins.

When I put on a few pounds from being a lazy, miserable fat ass I go into a keto phase for a few weeks or however long I can stand not drinking ale or eating pizza.

Losing weight is easy, Keep your carbohydrates under 200, 100 if your disciplined. This is easily done by not eating bread/grain and dairy (milk -ect). After a few days you will feel your body go into keto, (high metabolism) and it will start eating your fatty deposits. I lost 30 pounds in a month with this eating salad, fish, meats. Pretty much the same diet except no bread and dairy.  Soda is the biggest factor, diet's not so good for you but w/e.  One 12oz can of soda is usually almost 50 carbs.

+ Pistachios

Lots of vegetables and sugerless fruit.

Subway sucks.

Just try to have a healthy diet, with enough fibers (bread, potatoes, rice), fruit and vegetables. Combined with sufficient exercise you should be able to lose weight. Eating Subway everyday doesn't seem like the best idea to me, though, and it's probably not the cheapest option either.

Can you drink diet soda since it has 0 calories? I may change my diet and eat subway for 1 or 2 days a week then cook either salmons and chicken breasts for the rest of the week. I'm not obese, just has a stomach, so I don't know it factors in the diet plan. I heard if you're obese, it's easier to lose weight than if you only have somewhat of a stomach.

Wow, wow, darling, that really is not enough! It is important to loose weight steadily, in a healthy way. If you go on the treadmill every day, you should at least eat about 1500 calories. With only 800 calories you don't get all the nutrients you need. Eat responsibly, no fastfood, limit snacks like cookies and chips, and eat plenty of fruit and vegetables. You might lose weight slower than when you only eat about 800 calories a day, but it's easier to continue and decreases the change of a binge breakdown. You have to learn a healthy eating pattern and maintain that. That will prevent that you gain weight again when you've stopped dieting.

Good luck!

You should do what other fine people do who really want to take off the pounds.

Have someone on a riding mower chase you around the yard for a bit everyday.

One way or another those pounds are going to come off!

Really. Don't Fall.

All I know is, Subway is delicious. :D

Of course, what you order there makes a big difference. I've tried low-calorie diets in the past and none of them have helped me lose weight. But recently my dad was diagnosed with diabetes and his doctor recommended he look into the Atkins diet as a way to start getting used to low-sugar (and low-carb, which is almost the same thing) eating. So I checked it out.

I'd heard it was insanely dangerous and/or unhealthy for you, but it requires you to eat a respectable amount of carbs and actually following it has been super easy. I started in September and I've lost 35 lbs. I noticed immediately that I felt less sluggish and had a lot more energy. Actually if I have a notable amount of carbs or sugar now, I get a huge stomacheache and feel awful for hours afterward. :( I'm definitely planning to stay on some level of the diet for good after experiencing that.

atkins.com is the website if you're interested, but I'm more than happy to PM with you about it if you have any questions or anything. :)

Everyone's different. What works great for some people won't always work for others. What works for a month might not work for you forever. Don't get discouraged!! Remember that what you eat throughout the day will pretty quickly negate all your hard work on the treadmill if you make bad choices. Don't be afraid to look at that cookie and say "You are poison. You taste good, but there is nothing about you that serves my body, and I don't need you." (I trash talk the junk food and it helps) :D

Ah, I thought you meant chasing rats in the subway to eat as a diet. That would certainly work off the pounds.

Agree with ren! - that's a terrible plan, BBM. People have actually had their vital organs damaged permanently from diets that strict.  Image IPB

Thanks, I'm thinking of making a fruit smoothie which has milk, banana, and strawberries in it. They should supplement my fruit intake. Maybe a grill salmon or ham on a wheat sandwich with lettuce and tomatoes for dinner. I did a quick surf on the net and some people lose 5-10 a month with 500 calories intake. I have 800 caloies a day, I'm just saying that with treadmill, it will go down to 500 calories, not that I only eat 500 calorie worht of food though. It's a quick burst diet, and I will go back to at least 1200-1500 once I lost the weight I desire.

Watch your carbs and eat extra veggies. Careful of the dressing if you eat salad... maybe a low carb vinaigrette. Oh, and walk more if you don't already. Extra exercise helps even more than being extra strict on your diet, plus it helps curb your appetite for junk.

Rice is a no-no if you try to diet right? I look up the calories for rice, even the brown rice, they have really high calories for just a bowl.

It shouldn't be about dieting, but more of a life style change. Eat about five small meals a day and drink plenty of water. I have a general rule of thumb: If I can't pronounce it or prepare it myself, I don't eat it.

Fresh fruits and vegetables. Lean meats. Also, always carry apples, whole almonds, dried fruits or vegetable strips with you everywhere. When you get hungry, snack on them. When people are away from home and get hungry, they're more likely to eat unhealthy. Celery is a great substitute for chips, if you like them. They have a nice crunch and zero calories. Keep salad fixings available at all times and if you're going out to eat at a restaurant that isn't known for healthy foods, eat a big salad with a light vinegarette before you leave. You won't want as much then. Try eating high fiber foods, too. They'll make you feel full.

Try walking instead of riding, stairs instead of elevators, etc.

These things will become a habit to you and as your stomach shrinks, you won't want as much and will become the norm.

If you try to starve yourself, you won't commit to it. Eat lots, but eat healthy and good luck!

I didn't know it's that bad. I look up meal 1000 calories meal plan, and some said that it works for them. There are some diets with 500 calories. I probably avoid it if possible though. Thanks for the recommendation, I'll be looking into Atkins to see if it fit me.

Rice tends to have a high glycemic index if you are prone to diabetes you should be careful.  But a serving of brown rice a few times per week should be okay.   If you are like most ppl I know, the big thing is to reduce the carbs you eat.  And the ones you do eat, try to get them in food with higher fiber.  (Rule of thumb, more processed and refined = worse for your diet.)

Edit:  You can do it.  And like the above poster said, don't try to starve yourself.  Remember "diet" means way of life, not a temporary fasting.   Too much reduction in your calories can make your body try harder to keep its reserves.

I suggest tea or green tea amongst other nutrious beverages, diet soda is kind of garbage.  Taste good though!

The calories aren't everything, you want to keep those up and carbs down but above 100.  Some people dive below that, I couldn't fit that in the diet.  I can't eat only meat like the fatkins folk do, even though it was revised.  Most vegetables, fruit and a fair amount of meat.

You really think Subway is a good way to lose weight? Get off that chair, start cooking your own, fresh and low-carb foodstuffs and make sure to work out regularly.

Thanks, I'm thinking of eating more salads, but I prefer Ranch. Is Light Ranch a good alternative even if it has a bit more calories though. Instead of fruits, can I mix them into a smoothie instead. I'm not a big fan of fruits but I love smoothies.

Losing weight is easy

Yeah... No, it really isn't and it's almost insulting even to read that. No fancy, trendy diet has worked for me so far. Starving definitely doesn't work either (I always end up feeling lousy and overeating after a while).

The only thing that has had any effect for me has been running (I couldn't even run properly at first, but I tried until I could) and weight-lifting while eating pretty much what I always did but gradually cutting down on the pizza and candy. This seems crazy to people I have met because you don't lose weight quickly that way and you gain strength slowly, but I think the "slow" part is exactly why it has worked. Quick fixes are a shock to me, and I can't keep it up. And if you want to change your lifestyle permanently, it's easier if it's a slow adaptation.

Anyway, the same thing is not going to work for everyone.

Subway sucks.

I like Subway. Not sure I would if I had two eat two subs every day though!

KBomb wrote...

Exactly my point as well. Again, I have tried diets but I can't stick to them and they make me feel awful. Lifestyle changes work and the best part is that you don't go off a lifestyle change as you would a diet so you don't gain all that weight back again.

In addition, the extra exercise made me feel better overall, where the diets made me feel worse.

There have been studies that "show" that diet soda "makes you fatter". You've probably noticed the quotes. That's because it's based on a typical misinterpretation of statistics. Correlation, not causation.

Someone notices that fat people drink more diet soda. Therefore, diet soda makes people fat. Brilliant deduction! Usually, a real scientist proves a correlation and an overeager journalist misrepresents the findings.

That said, diet soda is still bad for you because of all the nasty stuff in it (sweeteners, artifical coloring, ...), but I don't think anyone ever managed to prove that it makes you fat. I try to drink much less of it these days because of the caffeine mainly.

Here is what you do if you have to have some low-fat ranch. Put about a teaspoon on the side and dip your fork in it, then put some salad on your fork. That way, you still have some of the ranch taste, but you'll be able to control how much your taking in.

Also, stay away from diet soda. Try some green tea or maybe some Crystal Lite. It comes in a variety of flavors. Don't forget to include some sweets into your eating habits. Try eating a cup of frozen yogurt with some fresh fruit or a small square of dark chocolate once a day. Denying yourself something sweet will cause you to binge.

Honestly, you should stay clear of diet foods. Try eating fresh, heathly foods that you can prepare yourself. You'll feel more full and energized and you'll be able to eat larger portions if the food is healthy. Those little diet tv dinners and such won't fill you up and you'll probably end up eating more. Instead, grill a chicken breast with three servings of steamed vegetables. As I said, no diets. Make it a lifestyle change.

I understood what you were saying, and 800 calories is really, really little and not enough to lose weight in a healthy way. Honestly, if you eat breakfast, lunch and dinner plus two snacks (as in fruit), you will be able to lose weight. Your body needs a certain amount of carbohydrates, fats, proteins, vitamins, etc. When you only eat for 800 calories of food a day (or worse: 500 calories) you don't get enough of all those essential nutrients. That's why it's better to take it slower and diet in a healthy way. A crash diet will only confuse your body and make it think it's starving. In that case your metabolism will slow down, and that is not what you want when you want to lose weight. Exercising is the best way to keep your metabolism up, as you won't only burn plenty of calories during the exercise itself, you will also build up muscle tissue, and muscles require a lot of energy to maintain. So in addition to the treadmill exercise you could consider doing some exercises that strengthen your muscles. Squats, push-ups and sit-ups are easy to do at home. You don't have to become a bodybuilder for it to have effect. With 2 or 3 days a week you will increase your muscle tissue.

It depends on how active the rest of your lifestyle is, but I consider 1200-1500 calories as not that much either. It's an amount with which people usually lose weight already.

Oh, about the smoothy: although it's healthy, you might reconsider taking all your fruit at once as a fluid. Fluids are far less satiating than solid fruits, even when it contains the exact same aount of calories, fibres, etc., and since your diet plan seems so strict, I'd say it's better to spread out what calories you do want to allow yourself. So eating two separate pieces of fruit at different times a day (between lunch and dinner and after dinner for instance) would probably make the diet more bearable. The glass of milk you can still take with your breakfast, since it's one of the most important sources of calcium.
