BioWare said Shepard's story is over with the original ME3 trilogy.
We might get some camoes (unlikely though due to the inherent characterization freedom from the previous games) or some basic elaborations on him/her (the legend of Shepard and such yaddayadda) though.
Will Commander Shepard return?

Why do people keep speculating on this, when Bioware has already stated that Mass Effect 3 was the last game starring commander shepard.
Sure there will be references in ME4 at some point, but we won't see him again i don't think.

Naw, as a whole Shepard is quite insignificant to the ME universe/franchise.

No, sadly devs said it them self's, but instead of making ME4 they could do a side story with a new protagonist and his/her own ship , like smuggler or something. and then comeback to Shep. but the main problem here are the endings.

ME4 without Shepard? Why should I bother to play ME4 when certain parts of ME3 were screwed up? The characters that I loved didn't live up to the full potential it could have been. So much lost potential.

No. My view is if Shepard survived, he/she is leading reconstruction efforts after recovery before a retirement to Earth/Thessia/Rannoch/Intai'sei.

No. And I don't know why people are desparate to play as him/her again in ME 4. You'd think after three games and finishing up the reaper arc that people would be ready for a new protaginist. A new protaginist would open up more opportunities for both bioware and the player that would not be available otherwise.

not headless ... we could hear a breath .. there is most certainly a head ... just the .. amount of damage to the head could vary ..
it is possible that shepard returns one day .. but most certainly not in mass effect 4.
the introduction of hawke was already fun to observe .. the new hero will face a s**tstorm without the luxury of a raincape.
