After rescuing Anora (the back stabbing ****) and walking out of the castle, I'm confronted by Ser Cauthrien and her minions. I of course tell her politely I rescued Anora, she comes forward, backstabs my ass...then im insulted by Cauthrien.

So I did what any self respecting person would do....killed her and all of her nasty little guards.

It felt really good. Summer sword not a bad two hander...I just felt humiliated doing the Captured quest and decided enough was enough lol.

Whats with the exceptionally large number of absolute ****y women in this game?

In a man's world, you gotta be a b**** my dear. :) If you want to get anywhere. A female PC certainly gets called that a couple times.

As for Cauthrien, I felt the same way you did. I could respect her dedication, but the wench still had to die after putting me in Fort Drakon and her pretty speech outside the Landsmeet chamber.

I always feel good when I kill her initially, but afterwards I do feel a little remorse, she was just blinded by loyalty and duty.

I know it's metagaming, but I have a save right before I walk in the room. I get captured and then go through all the rescue attempts, so I can see the companions interact with the guards (Dog is the best: "Let Dog ... bluff?") After enjoying that, load up and kill Cauthrien - one of the most satisfying moments in the game was when I ended her with dirty fighting and face stab.

There is an option to get out of this.

You can say. I will go, without a fight. If you indeed pick this one. The fight never breaks out and she never says that you were trying to capture her.

Even more so if you go to the landsmeet and meet with the woman again who wants to confront you before you walk in. If your pursude option is high enough, and you cleared people out of the dungeons. She steps down without a fight.

It was interesting to see how big the chances were based on simple replys

I stepped down, since she didn't know the whole story. So I ended up in jail in my case I waited for my two other team member to come and save me. And when I meet Cauthrien again, I made her see what Loghain had become, and she let me pass without a fight, she even kneel before me.

And that's when the screen went black.. and you hear the sound of a zipper.

Lol my character isn't lesbian sorry. I am a female elf mage in romance with Alistair xD I would have been rather shocked if that actually happen. No matter on which character the zipper had gone down on.

Nah she just let me pass right to the landsmeet door.

Yeah always makes me laugh when people talk about Anora being a backstabber, sorry but you had it coming if you are going to mess about with her attempted plan to get out of the estate in disguise. What do you think she got in the soldier outfit for, for the fun of it?

Y'know I actually took the time to talk to Anora on my City Elf playthrough, she's quite a nice person I discovered to my horror.

Back on topic: Cauthrien is doomed to die when she insults me infront of Arl Eamon, Loghain and Howe. If she kept her mouth shut, I might spare her, but as it stands she gets a sword upside her head.

Aww I bet if you got to talk to her before she said that you'd find she is a nice person too... just a bit blinded by her loyalty to the paranoid one.

.... Anora is many things, nice not being one of them. She is straightforward, yes, and she is polite and civil, but that is because she wants something from you, not a result of being a kind person. She is only nice as long as your interests are aligned, which can be said of pretty much all the characters in the game. Anora is probably the most successfully manipulative person in the game.

Anora never deliberately  insults me however.  It is not wise to insult a mage.

Anyway, Anora = not unpleasant. Manipulative, yep! But she isn't a bad person.

Both Anora and Ser Cauthrien are great women, in my opinion. Very different in their methods, but both strong spirited and quite good at what they are doing. It seems to me that they both fight and stand up for what seems the right course of action in their mind, rather than deliberately trying to hurt or offend the main character. Now since we all role play a handful of different characters when it comes to their personality, it's only natural to enjoy bashing them at some point. Or wishing to, at least - see Anora.

Ser Cauthrien's defeat was more rewarding to me because of its difficulty, rather than having a strong motivation to do it. On my first walkthrough I used Persuade on her and she gave me no reason to want to kill her. And let's be fair, between her and Loghain, we all know who has the shabby morality and who's following who.

I killed her a few times while breaking Anora out. I like that because it's the hardest fight in the game, but if you lose, there's no real consequence.

Haha thats it. Cotton underwear = very happy women.

Believe me if I could execute Anora much like Loghain I'd do it too. Theres just something about risking life and limb to drag her out of jail, getting insulted by a woman who clealyr hates men (Cauthrien), and then getting stabbed in the back.

I applaud Bioware though for giving me the option of calling her a double crossing biatch. It wasnt much, a rather /meh bone thrown in my direction...but satisfying nonetheless.

Strange. I like both Anora and Cauthrien, in their way.

Anora backstabs me, but later gives a good reason for doing so, even if it's only one side of her attempt to get Alistair out of the way. Since there's actually no damage done in the end, I can say "OK, well played" even though I've been the victim. After calling her names, of course

Cauthrien is blinded by loyalty, but can be persuaded to step aside at the landsmeet. I can actually sympathize with her - it must be hard to give up a loyalty this way.

Most of my games I have been able to muster grudging respect for both women, but on this last one, Cauthrien's taunts of both me and Alistair finally got to me. Who is she to keep us out of the Landsmeet? Nothing better than Denerim street thugs, at that point. A waste of a good warrior, but not unjustified to kill her. Not as satisfying a kill as, say, Vaughan while playing an elf, but still.

Actually the most satisfying kill other then Loghain was Howe. I cant believe that as a noble Bioware didnt put in some special animation like ogres where you could really watch him get nailed. Lying in a pool of blood was quasi anti-climatic.

The most satisfying fight in the game is Ser Cauthrain because she's tough as hell and you get the feeling the developers didn't intend for you to beat her.

It's especially satisfying if you don't cheese the AI by running out the room and only pulling her and 2 archers.

However, I gained no satisfaction from killing her. She just seemed to be a tragic character doomed by her loyalty to Loghain. If there was an option for her to surrender to me I'd take it in a heartbeat. Then again, she's so badass she'd never surrender.

The most satisfying kills for me:

Human Noble: Arl Howe,

City Elf: Vaughan

haven't finished the game with any other origins yet.

Aye Willie. I ran right into the room and fought her straight up. It was nice that the archers stayed in their respective corners allowing for aoe and CC. She was a ****. I also did it without using taunt on Alistair. I wanted to deal with true threat mitigation.

Omg. I went the kill her route my first playthrough, and doing it with only Morrigan as my mage without any cc :P and only the one heal spell and fairly limited health pots as I had forgotten to stop by hippy-elf lands to restock on reagents.....sheesh. For me, that was the hardest fight in the entire game-most of it spent paused. :P

I took no satisfaction from it though, as I liked Cauthrain. She was the most badass woman in the entire game, even if she was only a super minor character. The fact that she wore actual armor, and so wasn't afflicted with awkward posture disease all the other women had due to Bioware deciding to make wide-shouldered models to accommodate possible heavy armor textures....just added icing to her already delicious cake. :P

I made a 2-h female warrior at one point in an attempt to emulate her. Unfortunately, my pc was never able to reach the level of awesomeness of Cauthrain, who literally 2-3 shot each member of my party the first time I accidentally found myself fighting her. :/

I didn't "like" Cauthrain. I respect her. But seeing as she insults the PC every chance she can get I see no real reason to think she's more than Loghain's version of my hound. That you can reason with her in the end makes me think she's not entirely irredeemable. But it's a pretty high persuade.

As for Anora, she is the puppetmistress, no doubt. But given she's the one who was ruling before, what do you expect? She at least shows some gratitude for your acts after the fact. That counts for something.

Her gratitude is insincere and shortlived. Shes a political figurehead so her actions are consistent with that, but to me she has no empathy to anyone unless it directly benefits her.
