So we know that in Dragon Age: Awakenings we will get five new companions and one returning.
We also know that only one of the old companions will be back (at least in a party group sense) as has been stated by Mr. Gaider (siting reasonings for cost and time of voice acting for all characters, it is feasibly better to just do one).

So then the question becomes: For all the DLC content after Awakenings (because they said two years of DLC and it hasen't even been one yet), are we only going to have access to the five (six) new companions, or will our old ones be there as well?

Just trying to make sure I can be sure to explore all character options/dialogues/ group with each companion sufficiently / take screenshots (action and rp ones) before they are gone from my comfy camp :crying:

I posted this question in the announcement thread but it was overlooked. What do you all think?

i think its absolute rubbish to be honest.

this is about half the price of the original game, yet they pull the budget card.

i'm sorry but i really fail to see how the cost of voice acting can be an issue, the original game has a ton in it, in comparison the expansion wouldn't need alot added as alot of it can be kept you'd only need to add a few lines of party banter and the odd bit of them in cutscenes when they comment.

making such well liked characters, only to cut them from the game seems like complete lunacy to me

compare this to an expansion like shivering isles, yes that had poor story telling/voice acting but it has over double the amount of content that awakening will add, for the same price i believe.

Well his reasoning was that (in regards to having each person's favorite character come with them, i.e. most likely the person you traveled with at the end, or had a romance with) it wouldn't make much sense to do voice acting for every single character then have it rarely get used. I.e. I load up my game and Leliana (but only Leliana) is with me. There is voice acting for all the other characters but I would never use them. That was his reasoning.

I agree with ash on this point, I pretty much said same on the other thread.

If it were budget reasons, why include five new characters, which all need extra voicing & modeling, over characters that are already premade, that only would need additional voice work and some introduction to the new warden.

Unless the five new faces were cut left over content from Origins aswell..(Sarcasm)

Well anyway, do you guys think that after the expansion the DLC content will only be with the new companions? Or with the old and new companions?

You two do have good points though.

but thats a completely stupid argument from him right there, virtually everyone has used other characters, ive had about 6 playthroughs, so its not like they wouldn't get used is it?
and yh as the poster above says, if it was budget issues why 5 brand new companions? it'd be alot more cost effective to use 5 of the old ones and add to them.
surely anyone with half a brain cell would have the voice actors on contracts to ensure they'd be available for DLC/Expansions.

i will admit i love this game, its a fantastic RPG but the reason for that is the companions, and thats the big thing for me and many other people.
they can add all the companions they like, but the fact is you remember the great ones, im a massive fan of Leliana and alistair, i could understand alistair being king and therefore an NPC, but theres no reason for Leliana not to be included.
if you take the companions out of this game, its just another RPG and i may as well go and play oblivion or morrowind(which have far more content).
by removing them the heart of the game is gone, and theres no excuse for that really, we are talking about very small costs, and you can bet they stand to make a huge profit, if costs are the reason then im the queens mother.

if we do not get our old companions back after the expansion then this games going back in the box, in a wooden chest under my tv for the next 5 years(thats usually wen i get around to chucking the crap old games out, once or twice a deckade.)

the companions make this game, you take them out then you break it. you take my favourite character out of a game which is based on choices and companions then there is nothing to seperate this game from the others and il be going back to the elder scrolls oblivion for the next couple of years.
what was the point of our choices if bioware are going to scrap our companions, they may as well scrap the whole party system, everything about this game was brilliant until this expansion and its ruined it for me to be honest, i don't want to play only for my companions to be scrapped and my choices disregarded, because of voice acting costs(we can bet they still make a profit of millions though, and something tells me the cost of abit of voice acting is no where near that)

this expansion is make or break

Which is also something I was wondering. I would prefer to keep the same companions, but following the epilogue many of them left (Sten went all the way back to his homeland). And since you are rebuilding the Warden's it would make sense to have other warden companions. But you all do make some good points in regards to cost/appreciation.

This what I got from the epilogue..

Sten heading back home (Could mean a Qunari DLC or even a seperate expansion story)

Oghren nothing.. the only hints he gave were to find his girlfriend again, get drunk.

Shale (Could mean Tevinter DLC or seperate expansion)
Wynne (See above)

Morrigan (She made it clear to all regardless of approval she was gone at the end as a *party member* anyhow)

Alistair (???)

Loghain (???)

Leliana (Traveling with Warden)
Zevran (Traveling with Warden)

Ironic that those traveling with the warden are both romance options & the same sex options.
But we arent getting this, its a major waste. There are atleast three expansion ideas above that would no doubt sale.

As to DLC, It would seem dlc will stop for original campaign once the expansion is released - requiring you to buy the xpac. Considering the level cap of 25 on OC.

Any other epilogue is death or different choices on where your heading next.

I got:

Sten heading home

Oghren getting back together with Felsi (and drinking a barrel of pickel juice)

Shale Going to Tevinter to see if she can become un-Golem-fied.

Wynne Going to Tevinter with shale

Morrigan Crossed the Frostback mountians

Alistair King

Loghain Very dead

Leliana In Denerim with my Warden who is helping Alistair

Zevran didn't say much. Kept traveling? I think he is still in Denerim with me.

Yeah, I want my Leliana back.

Dont we all, at minimum.
But if that was going to be true, there would be TWO origin characters returning.. (Zevran too) for the female choice though Leliana does double both ways.

Alistair glued to a throne ruins one female romance already. It would seem fair though since Morrigan is out.

I say bring on the new companions I had no problem with Mask of the betrayer dumping all the original companions in NWN2 with the exception of a few cameos plus we will probably see most of them during the story at some point any ways (except Sten and most likely Morrigan) I just hope I get to keep my Dog

bring on the new companions is fine, but alot of people including myself really liked a couple of the old ones(in my case Leliana and Alistair) and to scrap them is abit inconsiderate considering all the talk about how DA is all about your decisions, well my decision was to make alistair king and travel with Leliana, and that should therefore continue into the expansion, otherwise this may as well be 1 of the other hundred crap RPG's

Wouldn't it be sad if Dog isn't even there, haha, ohhhh :(

Who knows, maybe the new ways will be astounding!
