Ello peeps--
When I heard Dragon Age allowed you to put tattoos on your characters I was quite excited. I like the option to make some other customisations to character other than hair and eye colour, however, I was startled to find just how basic the choices were. I've enjoyed the game a lot but felt more choice would've been great bonus to making your choice of character less generic. Does anyone else feel the same?
I've noted a few of the projects that offer more tattoos, but these haven't been to my liking--I do still advise people to try them and come to their own conclusions as I appreciate the modders put a lot of time and effort into them.
I also think the option of applying body tattoos would've been a nice touch.
Due to disability issues I am unable to craft a character in the creator or game that isn't the ugliest mofo in the Dragon Age or Mass Effect universe as my hands are not very responsive so I usually have to go with the generic faces on offer in most games.
In all other respects, congrats BioWare on DA:O - my GoY 2009

Hmm. I can't say I thought the tattoo options were that hot myself...I used a mod that made some of the default ones into warpaint type stuff and freckles. linkie
I also used a mod to add a lot more hair, eye and skincolour choices: linkie
Those two combined to make me pretty satisfied with my character. A friend used this to add more hairstyles too (some really nice ones); I may try this in the future on another playthrough. linkie
That said...if it's not too impertinent, what sort of disability would make you able to play the actual game but unable to manipulate the character creator? o_O

Thanks for the links, Sarielle.
Part of my condition is neuropathic pain which basically means extreme pain 24x7, 365 days a year. As part of my coping with it, I found pc games a big help as it allows me to focus my attention on something else other than the pain -- yeah, I know, sounds odd, but it takes an effort to concentrate that hard. Along with that I also endure nerve damage and med side effects that cause my hands to shake and my hands into a claw-like position. Again, it takes an extreme effort of will to get them to what I want--and to all those game designers out there in love with QTEs, may the fleas of a thousand camels infest your backsides, some of us people can't manage them. Big up to BioWare for not using them in DA:O! There are other problems on top of all that, but I really don't want to go on about my disabilities. I just don't think complaining about it all helps anyone.
Games help as part of my hand physiotherapy and allow me to focus real hard on something other than the pain that's crippled me. Dragon Age has been a wonderful game for this, so in depth and with such detail. Again, BioWare, thanks for DA:O you've made my life that much more bearable.
p.s. I wonder if I can get Mass Effect 2 on prescription?

I see. Sorry to hear that. Did you check the predone faces slider? There are 4 or five already done...while my character isn't exactly traditionally pretty I only manipulated one of the default faces a little (and used the colour mod, obviously
) and was pretty happy with it.
This game really is one of the most engrossing I've played ever, I think. My lack of sleep proves it (I don't mean to pull all-nighters...I just lose track of time) so I can see why it helps you concentrate.
And lol, I think a prescription for Mass Effect is sure as hell worth a try

www.dragonagenexus.com/downloads/file.php Chargen Package (adds new presets for all races and both sexes, does not replace old ones)
www.dragonagenexus.com/downloads/file.php Pretty Faces ( replaces all female faces of all races with "prettier" ones. There really are some lovely, characterful faces in this- might be worth a whirl)
www.dragonagenexus.com/downloads/file.php Chargen Morph Compilation ( patches up compatibility issues between all of the major chargen mods out there, like the ones linked by Sarielle and myself, and more)
Have a look-see, and happy gaming.

I agree with bonstix, I'm still looking for more tattoos too, I remember, way back in the NWN 1 days, one could appy a full body tattoo on the characters. By the way bonstix, I know that this doesn't help BUT I've found a mod that helps with the boring default colors of the tattoos here .

Oooh. I'm bookmarking this thread leafstray. While I don't necessarily always want traditionally pretty characters, I might at some point; and that compatibility thing is awesome. Thanks much!

Sarielle, if you are who I think you are- thanks for the nice eyes you made for Oblivion.
And yeah, have at it- Saxony Porcelain made some very nice faces- elves with long ears, adorable dwarven lasses, etc. Lots to work with.
I'm grateful for the modding community for expanding an already pretty damn nice chargen set up.

Hehe, alas, I must not be who you think I am xD;
Is there really some other Sarielle running around out there? I do use this name a lot but I never seem to have problems getting it no matter how late I join a community.

That's a great mod, indeed. I love it!
@Sarielle- I know of only one other "Sarielle", and she made some very nice eyes for Oblivion. Sorry for the mix-up:blush:

Hehe, no problem. At least you mixed me up with someone positive.

True, that.
And here's a more recent mod to expand the chargen experience- www.dragonagenexus.com/downloads/file.php Bidelle's Makeup Studio ( adds new custom, more high- fantasy-ish skin textures and optional eyes to chargen. Has a compatibility file, and is also included in the compatibility file I linked above.)

Wowza. That's another nice one. I'm almost feeling a little grumpy because now I feel compelled to spend a lot of time adding mods.
At least I really am happy with Sarielle's appearance, since I wanted her with very little makeup anyhow. Nothing takes the wind out of your sails like the desire to reroll after however many hours in I am, lol.

Yes, I am actually really pleased with DA's vanilla chargen- but... once a cosmetic mod 'ho, always a cosmetic mod 'ho.
It's my big modding weakness. I probably spent more time making custom races for Oblivion than I ever did actually playing the bloody game.
Seeing these new skins gives me yet another character idea though, dammit!

Too true.
It might not be so bad though since someone else has already done a lot of the compatibility legwork for me.

I'm not exaggerating when I say this is the single most useful Dragon Age Origins mod-related page I have come across. Not just thread. Internet page. I FINALLY have all my cosmetic mods being friends and playing together (props, leafstray) and I've even added a few more thanks to Sarielle's and metlfenix's links, so thanks muchly.
