If they don't tie the plot for Hawke and Warden, would you still buy DA3?

I almost prefer if they move away from hawke and the warden....clean slate

its interesting to see that investment in a character is important to others but when does that end? never? wait I'm on BSN, don't answer that.

I'd consider it a plus if we never heard about them again.

Same here. Please let my PCs retire in peace.

Also I watched the ending of DA2 recently and found the sequal-hook atempt kind of funny. They say that Hawke and "The Warden" have disapeared. And it can't be a coincidence. I know what we're supposed to think but which Warden are they even talking about? Couldn't it be Bethany? Alistair? Stroud? That balding crazy guy from Legacy? Nathaniel Howe?

Maybe she's talking about Sigrun. In my playthrough of Awakenings she got depressed after I spared the Architect and eventually dispeared. Velanna also disapeared during the big battle, but that was a long time before the events of DA2.

It was just really weird wording. I know we're supposed to think of OUR Grey Warden when she says it but uh....there are lots of Grey Wardens, what with them being a contenant-spanning order and all.

While I adore my Wardens and would love to know what they're doing, I'd be enormously entertained if "The Warden" turned out to be Nathaniel, particularly if he shows up and isn't an LI.   I would love to see Sigrun again, too.

bogs down? I think it makes it more exciting. Would you rather they had a straightforward plot like this is your enemy kill him and only focus on him? And not see the different injustices or impending qunari invasion?

I applaud your strawman arguments but I hardly see how not having the Warden and Hawke equate not having a complex villain or plot.

You don't need Hawke to tell a story of the Qunari invasion just as you do not need the original Warden to have a good darkspawn conflict/story.

The whole Old God Baby and Dragon Age 2 is bogging down the story in the sense that it's being overblown to the point that people wants the former to be a game of its own which is not going to happen (Gaider has said as much).

Dragon Age is about the world of Thedas. This whole OGB shennigan is pointless and becoming a factor of whether DA3 would be "buyable" is ridiculous.

Sure I would love some reference here and there but as an incentive to buy DA3, it is not.

1. Intelligent Darkspawn are out there?
2. There is a potential god baby?
3. There is the disappearance of Hawke and the Warden to sort out?
4. What happens with the Architect?
5. What really happens to the Warden? There is still a threat out there. She / he is a Warden and will die some day, you don't disband from the Wardens or you die.

1. Probably/Definitely, even if the Architect is dead there most likely would still be some "freed" darkspawn left.
2. Varric & Cassandras talk is about 9 years after the Archdemon is slain, so if a kid is concived and is still alive he should be 8-10 years depending on when DA3 will take place. Considering that the kid is optional he will not have a major role. Morrigan however could still have a major role to play.
3. My warden walked through the Eluvian, yours I dunno.
4. He is either dead or returned to the Deep Roads to continue his quest on freeing darkspawn. Since this too has different outcomes he will not have a major role. If they need this plot it wouldn't take too much effort to get a lore friendly reason to replace him in case he would be dead.
5. Anders left the Wardens, no problem. The Warden, if alive should have 20ish years left to live, can't see what would be so interesting there.

Personally I don't see all the hype and fanboyism about the Grey Wardens, it's an overrated faction that was poorly introduced in the first game.

Well I will buy it and not find out until I actually PLAY IT if Hawke and the Warden are in it lol So the question makes no sense. Because obviously at that point I have already bought it and am playing it.

My warden returned to the castle after awakenings and is living happily with Alistair (I imagine they have a couple of little Alistairs running around- heir and a spare STS). My Hawke is living somewhere quiet with Fenris- they have a couple of mage kids and are raising them as apostates- Fenris finally understands Hawke's opposition to the circle.

Of course I would. The world of Thedas isn't so small that all interesting events would have to be affected by the Warden or Hawke.

I don't ever want to see Hawke again. Don't even want to hear about him.

The Warden . . . ehhh, who cares? That game is over. Why would I want someone else to decide what's going on with my PC?

The return of Hawke and the Warden have no impact on whether or not I buy the game, there are many factors that do, but this is definitely not one of them.  Actually, this isnt true, it would probably hurt them and the game would be better off it both they, and characters that could be deeply involved with them are left out of the game.

I am more likely to be annoyed if they tried to put them in the game and messed up peoples personal stories then if they left them out completely, its bad enough npc's that should be busy in the story of our characters decide to ditch them to make cameos, let alone have the actual characters misrepresented in a cameo.

Of course I would. The plots of Hawke and the Warden are already tied up well and good. The whole plotline about their disappearance (and implication of their reappearance) feels wholly contrived and unnecessary.

This.

I never felt Dragon Age as a trilogy, but fantasy games set in the same universe. A Warden-Hawke-Inquisitor team-up/crossover would be done for the lulz/fanservice and it'd be much appreciated. Still I like the change of protagonist every new game. New opportunities, new adventures.

I would like some closure as to why Hawke/Warden disappeared but I will buy DA3 anyway. If they do show what happened to them their deaths could be a way to go but I would prefer something else. Maybe you find a book ar artifact that takes you into a flashback showing what happened to them or you meet them and they simply state that their part is over and tell you it is your destiny to stop the war and other problems going on. Either way I will buy DA3 whether they appear or not.

Is it so hard for people to imagine their own ending for their Warden and Hawke? I don't mean to sound rude or condescending, I really want to know. I made my own "headcanon" for my Warden and Hawke, is it really that difficult for others to do the same?

I don't want Bioware to tell me what MY Warden and MY Hawke would do with the rest of their lives. My Warden, Sol'a lost Alistair to the blight and she swore that she would find out exactly what it was that created the darkspawn (she's a mage, and doesn't believe what the chantry claims the cause is to be true) so that no one ever had to go through what she did. That's where she is in my mind, investigating the true origins of the darkspawn. And Hawke? After Kirkwall, Orsino, Meredith, etc. she is through with mages, templars and their fight for justice, freedom, whatever. Even though she was a mage. So she and Fenris are off making little Fenris mages (elves are plucky that way) and avoiding ever one of those factions, maybe out in the Wilds.

Most of the people will be busy with the mage/templar war. The drakspawn will try to take atvantage of this but you will find out about thier plans and your character's goal in DA3 will be to find Hawke and the warden.

Absolutely

The only thing that will keep me from buying DA3 is:

The mage/templar war is not the main story plot (my mage wants blood)

The game is still streamlined and not a real RPG.

Hawke had their game
The warden had their game

I dont need them to have a 3rd game.

GIven my Warden had a real ending, and wasn't left gasping in a pile of debris, yeah I could easily imagine what happened next to each of my Wardens

Hawke is a bit more difficult, what with the disappearance thing.  But I can still imagine what happened in the months or so following DA2.

Absolutely I would buy it. The beauty of Dragon Age is that the games can be about anyplace within the world, about any number of stories and adventures. There is absolutely no reason why each game needs to include cameo's from companions or previous PC's unless they can be legitimately included without being shoehorned into the story.

I do not expect direct sequels in terms of story and characters. I do expect that they present a consistent feel to the world and style of gameplay, something that in my opinion DA2 failed to do with the foolish combat, among other things.

I wouldn't buy the game if they didn't continue or conclude their stories of those two characters, including Morrigans. Mass Effect is a perfect example of a god-tier success if they focus the entire series on a few people, unfortunately, BioWare seems to have caught some sort of fever where they simply won't admit to the fact that Mass Effect was a success because of that.

One reason i can think of for bringing the warden back is that Anders was a warden as well as a mage. I could see some people being mad and both mages and the wardens. So of course you call in the hero of the ferelden to get some positive pr going.

Somewhere along the line Hawke and my Warden are going to have a fight, since my Warden went to kirkwall and stole Merril.

When you think about it, the dissapearance is actually quite clever. They gave us a lot of freedom in DA:O with how the story ended, which is of course nothing but a headache when carrying over saves. Now, every warden is in the same square one scenario. No one is dead (well, maybe that part isn't so clever), no one is king. Same thing with Hawke.

This way they can either use them again with minimal difficulty OR let them be.

And, honestly, I doubt people accepting their absense from future installments regardless of whether they dissapeared or not. That is a very minor detail in the "I want them back" mindset, I think. Truth is, if you leave a story while people in it are still alive it's always a cliffhanger. Just imagine good things for them and move on.

I would like to know what happened to them even if it's just a small codex entry. I would be disappointed if the new PC just disappears as well at the end. To me that is lazy storytelling for this game series if it happens again.

In the end rapscallioness sums it up rather well how I feel about the disapearance "As far as the disappearance stuff, I feel like, you know, hey--they brought it up. I didn't bring it up. Bw did. If you're gonna throw that in there all unnecessary like, then do something with it."

So no it's not a deal breaker but needs to be addressed;

I'm in this camp. It doesn't even have to happen in DA3, but BW just made two of my PCs "MIA".  I kinda want to know what BW is up to. Maybe the Inquis will go missing too and every DA PC after.

Maybe in DA25 we find out that all the missing PCs have been at an incredibly exclusive club in Arlathan playing diamondback and getting drunk on whisky the whole time.

Maybe its called "Sod it All. We Saved Thedas, Now Kindly Bugger Off".
