Why are so many people playing gold PUGs when they clearly can't hold their own?

Here it is then:

The guy who came 2nd in this picture is a friend of mine who is relatively new to gold. The guy who came 4th was a PUG. As you can see, VerySeed with a Mantis 1 on a level 4 Asariguard and no gear or consumables managed to outscore him. I think this pretty much sums up what you're trying to say, OP. And I agree with you, I've never understood people who play difficulties they are not ready for, and constantly die. I don't imagine they learn anything or that it is in any way fun. I guess the only real explanation is that they want quick credits and don't realise they could probably get them quicker just by playing Silvers, and actually having fun in the process.

I just want you all to know that I saw this scoreboard before it went mainstream. :P

And I've been doing silver PuG's on PC to get credits/get used to mouse and keyboard because i honestly don't think I'm ready for gold PuG's yet.

I see people in Timbuktu trying to host and I see guys with their gold guns at V trying to run no equipment. Welcome to the land of PUGs OP.

I see sooooooo many people in Platinum that have an N7 rating less than 10. Less than 10!

Sometimes I notice I struggle more than usual, either because of wonky internet or simply having an off day. Of course, if you only play one match with me and you see me sleep deprived and laggy as **** trying to learn a new gun--well, I'd probably have dropped down to silver in that case. Though I may not realize how sorry of shape I'm in until that dreadful match is done.

I've had both good and bad luck with PUGs for instance: last night the first one ended in a wipe, but the next 4 were all under 20 minutes. Your own sample size is too small to generalize. Also, we tend to remember the bad ones more than the decent ones.

Hey, I was just PUGing with you some minutes ago (Condor Geth Gold). Before you joined the match (Wave 2 or 3 I think?) there was another guy with a Demolisher that had scored like 1000 points and was dying pretty constantly. Good thing he left!

You were a great help (I was the Drellguard), sorry that my computer crashed and kicked you guys to another host

Yeah. I love when people join my game and they're rocking the reader carbine 1, and no equipment .

If they can't hold their own, maybe they want to hold someone else's.

The store. Right now there are over 500 Rare unlocks in this game, and Silver/Bronze do NOT give enough credits to max them all out in a respectable rate, so players are forced to jump to a difficulty they're not ready for. >.>

PUGs used to be fun but it gets more tedious every day, which brings me to the point: What drives these people?

Lol no, pugs were always hilariously bad.

Over the last few weeks I've played about 8 gold games and have extracted on every one of them. full team extractions on about 6 of 8 and all pugs. Now i have not joined a match in progress so that is one thing and I am picky about the lobbys I go in. I usually leave one or two lobbies before finding one to my liking.

It has to do with credits, plain and simple. If you received the same amount of credits regardless of what difficulty then they would play what they felt comfortable with and enjoyed. Since that isn't the case you have players in lobbies they really shouldn't be in, with all due respect.

When I first tried gold I was terrified of being a burden so played silver till I got so good/it got so boring I almost quit the have then moved up.
Having said that I did a silver PuG recently sent sometime a message after pointing out he played well but should hold of the LZ as he kept dying, his response was to tell me that teamwork is needed for gold/plat when he's only extracted on hold once in his 60 hours.
That's the problem PuGs these days...no respect/think they know everything/get off my lawn

I do it so some dork can complain about me on BSN to a thousand strangers who dont give a damn.

Thats the best response out of the 3 pages so far.

Its the stupid store 20minutes 30k silver.   25-30 minutes may extract or get to wave 6 in gold which nets around 30k or up to 75-80k  so its more profitable to play gold.  If theres one decent player in lobby most teams will get to wave 6.

I dont think its right was just stating what I thought they may be thinking.  I usually play with friends.  When I do pugs if they arent really trying and bleed out all the time then I stop trying too since I dont exactly need credits.  If they are trying and just not particularly good or are just having bad luck then I will rocket spawns and clutch a late wave or 2.

Because the difficulty gap between Silver and Gold is too wide. You can be too good for Silver but not good enough for Gold :P

Pay it forward, I was carried a lot initially, and the guys who helped me were very kind to do so. Not all of us have the time and the cash to unlock good kits and gear. I dont mind a weak player in a pug.

i wasnt implying you would do it, i just think that if ANYONE plans on doing gold and getting past wave 6 objectives and losing instead of winning or doing silver, they should be publicly booed.
you are merely pointing this out though, theres no doubt this type of thinking exists.
leechers.

I remember, I got disconnected, can't remember on what wave though.  To be honest, I wasn't too broken up about it, because Condor/Geth is a pretty tough combo.
