Why are so many people playing gold PUGs when they clearly can't hold their own?

But I do agree with the earlier comment about the obsession with people not liking low level weapons - we don't all have maxed out manifests, some of us still have low level weapons because the wonderful store won't give us what we want! So if I am in a lobby with a low level weapon PLEASE don't just judge me on that - at least wait and see what I can do with it first...

At least some of them are probably trying to stop sucking. You get good at Gold by playing Gold.
That kinda thinking is the reason why gold PUGs are what they are. You get good at gold by grinding lower difficulties and obtaining GEAR. I don't care how godly skilled you are with you human soldier and Avernger X. You'll still end up getting carried by TGI with Harrier I.
I have entire loadouts designed to never even fire a gun. I could be carrying a slingshot and it woulnd't make any difference. Fury. Shadow. Human Piledriver... I mean... Vanguard. I don't play these for the weapons, I play these for the powers, and that's all I use.
So judging my ability (or lack thereof) by the loadout I carry into a lobby is a little too elitist and one-dimensional. I'll typically carry only the Eagle I and the Hurricane II ('cuz I can squeeze them into 200% power recharge speed). But I have no intention of actually firing them unless it's absolutely necessary, and with those powers it very rarely is.
That said, I SUCK at gold. I'm pretty good at silver - I do my job, help my teammates, deliver the pizza, kill bunches of bad guys, don't run directly to the LZ at extraction time. But I've tried gold 4 times and each time I ended up on a team that was probably made up of players just like me - meaning, not quite good enough to be there without help. I have never been "carried" through gold and I'm not asking to be. I don't expect to make the top of the board, but I want to be able to at least contribute... otherwise, what's the point?
I'll keep testing the waters to see if and when I'm good enough, and I'm sorry if I end up on your squad one of those times. If there were another option - like a practice gold level - then I'd be happy to stay out of your way. Until then, c'est la vie.

So my message is give the gold PUG's a go, they'll learn and either go back to silver, or keep playing and improving...if you're new to gold as I am then I'd suggest equip your gear and tell the guys you're trying to improve you game...
And all you gold regulars out there, give the pugs on gold a chance, not all are there to leech credits and be carried! Some really want to improve their game and help out to get to extraction...

i can't carry a gold match, that's why i don't play gold pugs
my first gold was with friends, and the rest of them too
otherwise - failure,
unless you can solo gold and the other tree pugs are merely your "decoys"

Whenever I join a game in progress and I hear squadmate down I leave again immediately because usually I'll be the only one standing then and I have to drag them through the rest of the match.
When you join a match in progress, often those 'teammates down' that you hear as soon as you arrive, are because of your arrival. There's always a small amount of lag when a new player joins a match, but sometimes it's terrible and has gotten me killed if I'm stuck into a beefy fight as it occurs.
So many times people join, cause lag, getting people killed, then rage quit in a huff because people are downed.

The vast majority of the time, I don't find that to be the case. Having three bodies running around distracts the enemy from the rain of bullets I send their way.parico wrote...
Soling is actually easier than clutching since you control the spawns and dont have to worry about a teamate kiting a banshee or phantom into you.
And having people kit banshees and phantoms to me is fine.

Seems like one rule for "mates" and another for "Pugs".
I despise hypocrites.
Please justify/explain the difference between a Pug random & VerySeed (Both with no gear or consumables)?
I think you mean you despise double standards.
But I have no problems with them.
Here is a list of things I'll do with people I know and not random people online:
1) Pick them up when their car breaks down.
2) Make them soup when they're sick.
3) House sit their dog.
4) Sit through a Twilight marathon.
5) Carry them game after game with no irritation.

I joined three matches today (before I got tired of this sh*t), two of them in progess (wave 2 & 3) and the first thing I hear are several downs - a foreshadowing of what was to come. The third match was an actual lobby and from wave one people were dying left and right.
And this hasn't been a fluke, it gets notably worse every week as more and more people venture into gold that clearly have no place there. PUGs used to be fun but it gets more tedious every day, which brings me to the point: What drives these people?
It can't be fun cause dying all the time, bleeding out and wiping doesn't provide a lot of it. Neither can it be credits as there's a good chance the team won't make to (and through) wave 10 anyway. They'd earn more credits with regular silver extractions.
So what is it that makes it almost impossible to find even a single proper team mate in gold PUGs nowadays?
>.< This.
Host your own lobby and kick everyone without gear. The remaining question is: are you unfair or arrogant ? Well, i´d say you want to play and have some fun so do whatever is necessary to do so.
You still can run into some awful pugs...
You still can play with friends...

One game in progress I joined yesterday the host decided to just jump around and light melee everything. Needless to say the phantoms and dragoons weren't interested in making new friends. After we failed wave 6, come to find out his SI was 12...

Was never a Gold player.
I found silver to be such a challenge back in the day.
Learned the spawns in silver, noticed which enemies spawn at which waves.
Once I found silver to be easy, i mean really easy. Level 1 characters go straight into silver easy, i moved to Gold.
Spawns did not change, but what spawned changed.
Had to prioritise my targets on the fly, silver "rules" do not always work.
Several players talked to me in game, "take these 3 Marauders off me" when he had to deal with banshees and brutes.
Now, i just jump into Gold, and expect the worst. 80% of the time i am the last guy standing after wave 4 constantly. I keep telling them "it is not the banshees and brutes that kill you, its those Marauders and Ravengers, take them out first".
If you had not yet noticed, i face reapers and only reapers from bronze to gold (i do not even touch the other super bugged and OP classes with randoms).
Long story short, take on Gold, did you screw up? learn why and use medigel FFS in Gold.

I've been playing play gold pugs exclusively for the last few months. Success rate is around 70% You only get good at gold by playing gold. Everyone gets carried to a certain extent when starting gold matches - I know I was but now I'm at a place where I can carry a team if necessary. People need to be more tolerant of bad players. It's just a game besides it's more fun if winning isnt a sure thing.
A "bad" player shoudl not touch silver.
A "bad" player does not do the objectives and just camps and does nothing useful.
I have zero tolerance for "bad" players.
New-ish players to Gold, i tolerate, i do not mind going down 6 times to make them learn, that is IF they learn.
Such players are not "bad", but "new" to Gold really.

I would say it's arrogant to join a lobby and immediately ready up with no equipment while everybody else has put on make up. It's unfair and they deserved to get kicked.IoeShepard wrote...

It's always the same, they won't do good, suck and quit by the first time of trouble. Save for some very rare exceptions.
And for those complaining that they only have bad weapons: Stop buying psp's and max out your uncommon weapons/mods with veteran packs first. You get plenty lvl II equip amps as a nice side effect. An N7 100 - 119 with a mattock X or a viper X and a full set of lvl II consumables that makes at least a little sense will not get kicked by me.

I do have problem with numbs that enter gold lobby, dont have even gear selected and press ready. I do have problem with leechers, I do have a problem with ppl that dont have/dont use gels.
That being said gold PC is somewhat decent lately though seems like ppl are out of medigels constantly

If you want more good gold players, allow the awful ones to learn from their mistakes.
If you don't at least have the occasional patience for that, perhaps co-op gaming isn't for you.

On the PS3 Golds lately, there always seems to be one player who fits at least part of that description: low kit level, low (common/uncommon/rare) weapon level, no consumables, no permenant gear, sometimes not even weapon mods.
They enter, green up straight away, do very little all game, and get their credits...
I havent been kicking them, and if not host, usually just leave. But yes, i might sadly have to start kicking when i'm hosting with one or two friends, and get under-prepared randoms filling the last slot.

As I (indirectly) said in the OP, it is the amount of bad players that boggle my mind. I don't have a problem when someone new to gold joins and messes up. As you and lots of others have pointed out - the transition to gold has to start somewhere and chances are the first matches won't be pretty. That's absolutely fine and we've all been there.MoosenLoosen wrote...

But if about 75% of the PUG matches turn out to be with two or even three really bad team mates then things are getting tedious...
