Why are so many people playing gold PUGs when they clearly can't hold their own?

Host your own lobby and kick everyone without gear. The remaining question is: are you unfair or arrogant ? Well, i´d say you want to play and have some fun so do whatever is necessary to do so.;)

You still can run into some awful pugs...

You still can play with friends...

I would say it's arrogant to join a lobby and immediately ready up with no equipment while everybody else has put on make up. It's unfair and they deserved to get kicked.

It's always the same, they won't do good, suck and quit by the first time of trouble. Save for some very rare exceptions.

And for those complaining that they only have bad weapons: Stop buying psp's and max out your uncommon weapons/mods with veteran packs first. You get plenty lvl II equip amps as a nice side effect. An N7 100 - 119 with a mattock X or a viper X and a full set of lvl II consumables that makes at least a little sense will not get kicked by me.

That is useful information!

Cheers for that, it gives us who rarely go into gold, or go in not knowing what kit we should have a bit of an idea.  I've stopped buys SP's for now and concentrat on VP's instead to get my uncommons up to scratch as I;ve got level x basic weapons but lack the bunch for a weapony class, and I;d love to give my Vorcha a bit more of a cannon, would someone mind taking a look at him and recommend a better shotgun rather than what I am using?

I'd appreciate that!

Sometimes I think I'm too nice of a guy to kick people. Last night I was playing with a friend, then made the match public. Two dudes joined. One of them was a GI with the usual loadout (Piranha X, etc). Other was a Krosoldier, his N7 level and Challenges were low, but I always give them the benefit of doubt. His loadout was some low level Reegar and another pistol, can't remember exactly.

Still, I thought "no biggies", and proceeded to the match. Since I like to play U/U/G, we ended up in Giant/Reapers

This guy died on almost every single wave. I am not one to rag on other players, since I'm not a gold/platinum solo'er, but sometimes I felt like telling him politely "I think you should play in silver a little more, gold can be handful for a newish player", but I feel like a douche doing so.

My friend suffered a couple sync-kills from Banshees, he told me later that they were grabbing him through walls. The GI dude also suffered a couple SK (it happens to the best of us). I ended having to carry like 2 or 3 waves almost solo. I say "almost" because I kept reviving the Krosoldier every 30 sec. I thought "hey, as long as there is somebody else drawing fire away from me, it's good, right?". Until I got fed up and didn't want to compromise the match by rushing to rez him (I was playing Drellguard).

After the match (full extraction), the GI dude left. The Krogan dude stayed in my lobby, I messaged my friend "Uuhh...do you think we should kick him?" My friend said "Definitely, yes".

I dunno, I felt kinda bad...so I quit the lobby and re-hosted another one for my friend and me. :wizard:

I've had both good and bad luck with PUGs for instance: last night the first one ended in a wipe, but the next 4 were all under 20 minutes. Your own sample size is too small to generalize. Also, we tend to remember the bad ones more than the decent ones.

Hey, I was just PUGing with you some minutes ago (Condor Geth Gold). Before you joined the match (Wave 2 or 3 I think?) there was another guy with a Demolisher that had scored like 1000 points and was dying pretty constantly. Good thing he left!

You were a great help (I was the Drellguard), sorry that my computer crashed and kicked you guys to another host

I remember, I got disconnected, can't remember on what wave though.  To be honest, I wasn't too broken up about it, because Condor/Geth is a pretty tough combo.

Haha yeah, I like to play U/U/G, but when I saw it was Geth on Condor: Stunlocks. Stunlocks everywhere.

I don't come across bad PUGs often... well, either that, or I'm just much better at carrying than I used to be. In most Gold PUGs I play, the average extraction time is around 21-23 minutes.
Hell, I can't even remember the last time I failed a Gold match (well, except for that time I died on Wave 10, while trying to solo Gold as a Batarian Sentinel).

I sometimes wonder if I play a different multiplayer to a lot of folks on these here forums.

I play on PC, and PUG gold often, and the quality of players in those groups is usually at least decent, sometimes very good. Maybe i have different definitions of "decent" and "good" to a lot of you - for me, if we extract (or get our credits, at least) in about 25 mins, it's a good game. I have never, ever, met an intentional leecher in a lobby - even players that are not very good, seem to be at least trying. That's all I ask - that people be trying their best, because i can clearly remember myself making the jump to gold, and sucking, and getting carried often.

So I don't mind players that are underequipped or underexperienced - that's the way we all learn. It's damn hard to take rare guns to any decent level these days with the income that silver offers. Nowadays, if there's at least one person in a lobby who knows what he's doing, beside me, we extract, can't ask for more than that. Also, and I don't mean the OP personally here, but i've found that many players who moan about terrible PUGs, are not as good as they think themselves to be. I noticed that as my skills and awareness improved with experience, do did the quality of the groups I got in. Funny that.

Thank you.

Damn, what's up your ass? What's it to you if Sirian wants to drag my scrub ass through some gold games?

Then again, the responses from Sirian/Maria Caliban sum up the situation pretty well.

Because they're currently only able to play on an old notebook at ~15fps and underestimate that while this might work with a flamer GT on platinum, it's absolutely horrible with a Volus Vanguard on gold?

It's too hard to say if someone is bad or not in the lobby. I just had a gold with a paladin using lvl 3 amps and piranha 3 - I thought he'd do good, since I was a geth engineer and could detonate. He didn't do bad, but somehow only managed to get 45k points.
The turian saboteur that got 100k points in that match, I rarely saw him.

Would it be too much to ask to have one Fing teammate pull a missile off their back and missile a spawn on later waves? I understand some of you lemmings have a pressing appointment with the first Fing instakill enemy you see, I mean that banshee isn't going to punch herself in the vag, but at the very least contribute some form of anything to the game other than blatant stupidity.

Whenever I join a game in progress and I hear squadmate down I leave again immediately because usually I'll be the only one standing then and I have to drag them through the rest of the match.

When you join a match in progress, often those 'teammates down' that you hear as soon as you arrive, are because of your arrival. There's always a small amount of lag when a new player joins a match, but sometimes it's terrible and has gotten me killed if I'm stuck into a beefy fight as it occurs.

So many times people join, cause lag, getting people killed, then rage quit in a huff because people are downed.

That lag is for 1 sec so its not that big of a deal. Often I join a game in progress and 2 players already bled out on wave 2. Not a good sign. Sometimes I just want a relaxed gold match and not worry about getting my team to extract.

Whenever I enter or create a public game, I only hope for 1 good teammate. I won't care if the other 2 are terrible but at least I'm not alone. Because those games where the other 3 can't hold their own feel like a chore. The games last longer and every time I run around the map I feel lonely because all I meet are enemies. Not the other players. And that's a terrible feeling in a co-op game.

So pls matchmaker god, send me at least 1 good teammate next time I PUG !

I rarely venture into gold, thought I'd give it a go a few months back and found it quite good. In the first game, pre retaliation, I used a missile to take out an Atlas on wave 3 and haunting over the mic there is a French voice... "you are wasting your missiles" so I didn't waste any more (I gathered that I should save them for late wave situations from that) and did my best to stick with the team. We all got downed on wave 9, but I was encouraged that I managed that tbh, but it was because I listened. I play gold when I'm on a roll in silver, and I quit when I suck.

Funny no-one has mentioned pugs in Gold games with low N7 levels? The other day a pug with N7 of 12...that's right TWELVE joined my lobby, with a level 12 character and no consumables! I'm always willing to give people a chance so did just that, and he bled out on wave 1...and wave 2...and wave 3 - you can see where this is going! It's enough to test the patience of a saint!

But I do agree with the earlier comment about the obsession with people not liking low level weapons - we don't all have maxed out manifests, some of us still have low level weapons because the wonderful store won't give us what we want! So if I am in a lobby with a low level weapon PLEASE don't just judge me on that - at least wait and see what I can do with it first...

What's so wrong with low level weapons? Most differ only by ~20% between min and max levels something which can be easily compensated with gear/mod and experience. I would rather welcome someone who has played 50 matches with a powerful L1 weapon than someone who has just take out their LX out of the closet for the first time.

Depends on which weapon. I have no problem with a Talon I or Wraith I, but a Phaeston I on the other hand... Also, it depends on the class used.
The other day, I had someone playing a Turian Soldier with a Phaeston V + Acolyte I (or something like that ; can't remember the actual secondary weapon but it was a lvl I rare). Yeah Marksman is a great power and Proximity Mine debuffs nicely but still, that's quite low DPS for a Soldier...

Well it's typically about 25%, but this number multiplies the total damage done by the weapon while (for example the shotgun HVB) mod adds 25% of the base damage of the weapon to the total damage.

Consider the following:  I take a Piranha and add an HVB, shotgun gear, level 3 rail amp and Warp rounds IV to it.  I'm doing 2.3x the base damage to everything but shields (assuming I don't even spec the passive tree on my character.)  In this case, the shotgun mod actually increases the total damage by 0.25/(2.3-0.25)=12.2%.   The more damage bonuses you stack the less significant this mod becomes, while levelling up the weapon will always give 25% more total damage.  The only time they're similar is if you don't use any equipment or spec into the passive .

I tend to give people with average loadouts the benefit of the doubt.

However, I tend to find people who play weapon-based classes and don't use gear/consumables are expected to be carried. Or they're lagging behind in score, and thus think its a good idea to become more exposed to get more kills. Spoiler alert - its not.

Weapon based classes should use amps, ammo powers in gold. It can make uncommon weapons that more viable if their manifest is slightly lacking.

My advice to people inexperienced at Gold is to play a caster class, try and maintain a high cooldown loadout, and just support the team with debuffs, tech/biotic explosions etc...

The cool thing about the multiplayer in this game is you don't have to hold your own. There are four of you. If you want to play with people who hold their own, run solo... assuming you can hold your own. If you want to play with people as part of a team then be prepared to take the good with the bad.

It's pathetic how entitled some people seem to feel. The multiplayer would be boring as hell if everyone were a top tier player who could solo platinum at will.

I used to care.

I don't anymore, since the store gives plenty of consumables and I generally don't use level 4s when pugging. It's less stressful not caring; sure the match will probably go bad, but picking up the slack is a nice challenge and when it's done you can always find another lobby. Having a maxed manifest helps since I technically don't need the credits.

Case in point, I just finished a London Collectors Gold that had a novaguard with a level 4 Katana and no gear or consumables. It was a good challenge; pretty hairy in the last few waves. He was either really brave or really stupid to try to charge and nova a spawn of Praetorians and Scions on wave 9. I would've gotten sole survivor if I wasn't stun locked by Scion grenades into a Praetorian laser at the last second.

TBH I have just returned to the Forum and am too lazy to trawl back through the thread to find the pertinent replies.

However, I will just say that it seems comical to me that people on here complain about randoms playing Gold with low level weapons and no consumables.

I personally don't care but a lot of people here seemingly would have kicked you before the match begun.
