Why are so many people playing gold PUGs when they clearly can't hold their own?

I actually have been thinking lately that i might start hosting gold matches again, and just filling my blocked players list with the people who shouldn't be playing gold. the only problem with that is that i may end up blocking good players who were just lagging or something,
You can mark the awefully bad players so that you won't have to play with them again???

Yeah but it uses glorious xbox live network not bioware network, meaning that the douche is an avoided player in all games you play. No idea whether psn has this feature... Btw it lessens the chances of playing him again it does not exclude it from ever happening again.Sojiro888 wrote...

I don't mind it too much if they stick on lvl 2 and above consumables. Shows that they are at least trying. With gear alone, I'll kick.
this.
i have been branching out, and seeing which chars and classes i can bring into gold because i can't play every char in a gold match effectively

Generally I'm never picky with lobbies, but I've actually started taking a good look at other players' loadouts.
There was 1 lobby today that seemed like it would've been a nightmare, 3 players with barely maxed out common items, no consumables, low N7 and challenge points (I don't really mind these too much, but going along with load outs, I start using it as a bit of criteria).
I'm not great, but I can hold my own, do some carrying if I have to once in awhile (depending on the kit I'm playing), but the moment they saw my load out and challenge points they all pretty much in unison clicked on the "ready" button, and I clicked on the "exit" button.
That and the recent problems I've had with disconnecting late in matches (Wave 9-11) have made playing Gold a lot harder that it used to be.

I was in a good mood, so I equiped level III and IV gear (the others went without gear, except for one with level I or II e.), Scorpion and clicked ready to see what happens. I was ready for failing miserably, but to my great surprise, I was the one carrying the team through some waves. We were a team of Demolisher, Fury, Shadow and FQE in Rio against Reapers. I am quite (amazed and) proud of myself and of my team, that we made it to the extraction, because my team mates were dieing a lot (I got 15 revives medal) and I got my stupid ass insta-killed by a Banshee twice. You could see none of us was an excellent player, who was able to solo Gold and it sure wasnt a quick and easy game. But we were trying our best and we somehow managed to pull each other through.
As I said, this has been my first Gold, but what I have learnt from playing PUG Bronze with absolute newbies and Silver with more experienced players is you have to be ready for pretty much everything. For leechers and newbies and bad players and jerks and people who need to be carried at first, so they can learn. If you want an easy mode, play with friends.

Well, same here, depends which class I play, but when I'm with my fav class, I check if at least one player is geared up well enough, has lvl II/III/IV consumables and an N7/CP level close to mine or better. I can't solo gold, but can be a variable asset paired with at least one good player. If I think I will be carying the group on my own, I leave the lobby.
And yeah, sometimes the bad luck bunny is with me to and I have an off day or an off instance, but the other day I score 100K + and top the board.
But, I don't complain to much about bad pugs. When I have a bad pug, I just try again. I'm playing a game, comfortably sitting behind my laptop and with a nice drink nearby. Why should I get all exited about a bad group. Live has bigger issues than that. If you can't handle it, stop gaming.

- I join a Gold PUG where I'm one of the best players. We do ok, lots of players die, and we might not extract. but I score top two.
- I join a Gold PUG where I'm average. It could go any way, but normally we extract and I score bottom two
- I join a Gold PUG where all the other players are better than me. I die a few times and finish last.
It's a game and dems the breaks. Get over it.

These newer players are vets of FPS games, but are unuse to ME3's...unique method of unlocking characters and weapons. So they look at the raw numbers. One Gold game giving you eighty thousand credits, opposed to a Silver game giving you around fourty thousand credits. Never mind the fact you can get two silver games done in the same time as an average Gold match using no consumables (if you have skills)
So what they try to do is play on Gold because it gives more points and more money in ONE game than that of Silver or Bronze. Its not time they are considering but the number of actual games, a rookie mistake. This is backed up with a few bits of evidence. Knowldge that even if you die in every wave and get no kills, you'll get the same amount of points and credits as the people doing hard work.
This is reduced thankfully by the fact you'll get booted if you dont move every two minutes at least, because thats what you'd see even more of were it not.
These new players coming into the game are FPS vets, not RPG vets. That means they have little if any skill in team work and really only want loot for themselves.

this is going to sound stupid but what does PUG stand for?
I suppose they play above their level because:
a) credits
I personally play 1-2 gold games daily. And only with classes I'm good with. I don't feel like ruining someone else's fun.

This game, even on Bronze is STILL pretty brutal is you're a moron. Why does this matter? Because half the PUGs I end up with are using oversized weapons (Typhoon for example) on characters not suited for it (a level TWO Drell Vanguard yesterday). If you stand out in the middle of a kill zone and think you're going to kick ass and take names you are mistaken.
Now as for consumables, thats where things get murky. I dont kick people for not using them because I dont use them. You dont have them in single player mode, so I never got into the habit of using them. As a result I have played this game without them since the day it was released. As a result my skills are very very sharp. I know from testing and experimenting that level 3 and 4 amps and ammos make a HUGE difference in how hard it is to get through Gold or Platinum, but by not relying on them to give me a boost, it forced me to adapt and become a better player,
I have no problem teaching new players how to play and even help carry them to get credits to unlock good gear. BUT in return I expect those people in turn to actually LEARN and improve. If I see no marked improvement within three or four games, I boot them.

I have seen on this thread a number of people remark that people just starting out on Gold who have been grinding on Bronze and Silver would have trouble with the learning curve on Gold. This IS true, but I dont think thats the case here, for one major reason.

You are talking about people willing to get better and do everything they can... That's not the problem.... The problem are people that want to play gold just for credits and are looking for someone willing to carry them through... Most good players don't really need consumables... If some one played platinum he for sure can play gold without them... But some one coming fresh from the start will need them to have any chance. So if i see some one with 5000+ or more challenge point with no consumables i will just think that he can play as he wants but if i see someone n7<240 i will assume that he will be a liability and he refuses to contibute to the team....

If i play gold nowadays i just host and start the game alone, people will join on their own, i just don't want to know the other players kits weapons and gear anymore. I assume the worst but am pleasantly surprised allot like this.
I do that aswell, i've also given up on reviving people in risky situations. If pugs are constantly dieing and dieing to revive each other that's fine with me, i can deal with the extra ten minutes it takes to solo kill everything. Hell i'll even take my sweet time doing that if people are showing up with rank 1 common weapons and underlevelled characters too. No sense in my spending consumables to boost scrubs.

Had a phoenix adept with no lash and everything else at 6 and a Reegar for lulz.
I got cerberus Hydra.
There was one person who had long range weaponry and 2 people who pretty much just started the game.
So had a problem.
No long range dmg capabilities on the most open map in the game.
I felt like Solid Snake going around boxes to take enemies from behind then using singularity for stun and getting the hell outta there.
Now where do the newbies come in? They actually helped. They rezzed and were a valuable distraction for my ''sneaking''.
The destroyer did quite well though being our only long range dmg dealer.
That game was hard and extremely fun.
Also made me think that this game needs a better sneaking mechanic than just cloak.

I joined three matches today (before I got tired of this sh*t), two of them in progess (wave 2 & 3) and the first thing I hear are several downs - a foreshadowing of what was to come. The third match was an actual lobby and from wave one people were dying left and right.
And this hasn't been a fluke, it gets notably worse every week as more and more people venture into gold that clearly have no place there. PUGs used to be fun but it gets more tedious every day, which brings me to the point: What drives these people?
It can't be fun cause dying all the time, bleeding out and wiping doesn't provide a lot of it. Neither can it be credits as there's a good chance the team won't make to (and through) wave 10 anyway. They'd earn more credits with regular silver extractions.
So what is it that makes it almost impossible to find even a single proper team mate in gold PUGs nowadays?
I understand your pain. Here is what I do when playing a PUG with random jokers. It keeps me from going insane and prevents me from using a boatload of consumables.
1. In random games, I ALWAYS go with my bread and butter, my Human Male Engineer.
2. I try to put myself in a position on the map where I can see all avenues of approach.
3. You have to assume that there will always be that one idiot that will try and play "SuperKrogVanguardMeleeClaymoreGuy" on the other side of the damn map. This guy will be the beginning of the end for your team.
a. He will go down. Most likely on wave 1 and he won't attempt to use medigel (ever) to get himself up.
4. "Hero Guy" will be the guy that tries to wade through the horde to "Get to da choppa!!" and revive "SuperKrogVanguardMeleeClaymoreGuy". He will go down also which leaves two of you.
5. I make it a point NOT to go across the map and revive anybody in PUG's. It encourages their stupid behavior to play as a lone wolf and not stay with the team. Plus if I get put down, the game is already over.
6. I only use a gear bonus and maybe an ammo power. But with PUG's I am not using any of my consumables.
Ask me how a game of Gold yesterday on FB White against the Geth, I had 115,000 and the next highest was 42,000? EVERY....SINGLE....DAMN.....WAVE, I was all by myself. Running around like a rat, dodging Primes, paranoid and twitching like I was a heroin addict because my turtle beach's would tell me something was creeping behind me or making clicking noises. So now, not only am I worried about the rest of the enemies on the map, I'm also looking for the Hunters.
By wave 8, those jokers got the hint and learned a new concept. If we stayed together, 4 guns and powers down range were better than 1. But after that game I needed a drink and thus poured me a hefty dose of Capt Morgan.

[*]I'm just now starting to pug a lot of gold. The one thing I can say that helped me become better was all the information from various threads. I'm not gonna act like I don't know the answer, I want the to get credits the quickest way with me getting carried. I don't play like that but hell simple enough answer right.hostaman wrote...
