If so, what advantages would it have over a rogue archer, if any?

I'd like to play a dwarf crossbow archer, but I don't know if I'd be able to survive on any difficulty past normal.  How would I go about building one, with what specs?

Here is a helpful and mostly accurate guide to archers.

Crossbows are generally considered to be inferior to longbows as primary weapons because they are neither STR or DEX dependent. Just FYI. Here is a handy list of in game crossbows

I realise that they're inferior, I just don't think that bows fit Dwarves that well.

Might try it at some point.

I think the fun of the Warrior Archer is tanking with them. I don't remember how to build them but you need Strength for massive armor.

Wouldn't it be fairly simple? Enough strength for the armor you want, then pour everything else into dex.

As for Xbows their weakness is their freedom, you can invest in other attributes once you reach minimums since Xbows dont scale off stats but still do good damage. For example you could invest alot into willpower for more stamina to spam attacks or con for more health. You can pickup the second best xbow in the game from stealing in Lothering and they do more damage early game then bows do. In Origins at least, in Awakening Bows due to better Dex scaling far outshine xbows.

also for warrior archer your not going to wear massive armor due to negatives, so this means you only need 38 str after buffs to equip everything upto Heavy. With a large investment into Dex for Attack and damage bonuses with a bow you get a great Defense score, add in Defensive fires +30 defense and maybe suprssing fires -7.5 attack per hit that stacks you can easily reach the 120 defense rating goal to become unhitable to pretty much every enemy in the game.

I play a Warden Warrior Archer tank this way currently and have no problems tanking. I dont even run threaten. If you really want to go overboard you can pickup champion and use rally/warcry to boost these ranges even further. (Im also Dalish Elf which is strangly thematical and unintentional lol)
