No, this is not right. You gain advantage over console players, that can't textchat. This is against the rules of commu sportsmanship.

well this is just a bad joke (and i'm on PS3)

why should PC users suffer because consoles suck

why the need to make people who have better things (PC) on Par with people who have junk (Consoles)

they probably paid a higher price for their PC than you paid for your Xbox, and to be fair to Xbox players we do not give them what they should have always had because their superior platform (they paid more for)allows it, i'm surprised PC players aren't mad about this

I'm pretty confident that's not the reason.

I can send messages to other Players On my PS3 (as long as they're registered as "Friends".)

I press the playstation home button and then go to the "friend" I want to send a message to then compose message with titles and message inside, then send.

It takes me way too long to send messages thanks to a lack of a "qwerty" keyboard on PS3.

we have chatrooms on PS3, but writting is way to long, made worse by the lag the chatroom causes
and your PS3 can often freeze because it cannot even handle a chatroom with 5 people
totally flawed system

One thing that makes me love not having a text chat on PC is that a lot of people who could get a habbit of writing immature things and insults just cant bring themselves to saying that aloud. I think we'd have a lot less friendliness while playing if everyone could spend some time arguing using written text. Likely the community would actually suffer from text chat.

Well, Bryan told me in PM that it is a possibly bannable offense in terms of client modification, and this ban is possibly permanent.

Possibly.

I doubt it because it's allowed for single player so I don't think using text chat in MP will get you banned.  It's not even against their listed rules.

But... But it's right there. You just have to make it be available without having to alter the EXE of the game with a hex editor. Why is it not supported???

Because it isn't all there, that is all I will say on the matter

This. I remember when Mgamerz was going on about this. He was also basically saying that it's incredibly basic and is not part of the game, but just part of the Unreal engine. That's not a proper text chat.

If Origin would not require to be friends first to be able to text someone I would actually text ppl using it. Also the notification for a friend request is hardly noticeable, especially during a game.

I believe Xbox players can just text anyone without being friends first, right?

You can do the same on Ps3, too.

Agree. For once its nice to just simply work together cooperatively, no yelling, no whining, no cursing, swearing, name calling and all the nasty, immature stuff ive come across online. Absolutely lovely not to have to endure all that. Not missing text chat at all. One of the (many) positive points of ME3 multiplayer for me.

It was originally going to be supported, as there was an option for it in the demo. I still think they left it out to encourage people to use origin's "friend only" chat function instead.

So your favorite part of the multiplayer is not having to communicate with other players?

Seems legit.

BioWare, can you explain exactly why? you are not clear when explaining something that you completely ignore.

are you afraid that this game will become trash talking community if you put the text chat?

If you ask me, it's better than nothing.

All I need it for is saying "Good game guys" and stuff like that.

Yep, not surprised by the official response.

I've seen this reaction to even the most inoccuous things in MMOs and online games in the past. I think it's a slippery slope scenario. They take care of all of it, because exceptions can get fiddly.

See, make one exception to modding, and then you have to lay out a big, complicated ruleset of what's okay and what isn't. And if accidental bans under the 'okay' section happen, then you have a massive fireball of controversy on your hands.

It seems either you did not read my post thoroughly, or i communicated poorly :)

I use voicechat, but with pugs i rarely do, simply because others rarely do (that ive come across). I will however, sometimes thank people or tell them to watch their six, incoming [enemy name/type]. Private games are another matter :)

Communicating is something i enjoy alot, but i can really do without all the immaturity and nastyness that is so prevalent in (first/3rd person) shooters.

The silent cooperative teamwork, the krogan headbutts amongst players, the people covering your six when your disabling a device - lovely. I enjoy those forms of communicating. I do agree that text chat should have been a basic function right from the start, however. Some form of communication between players should always be present, text chat being the '' easiest '' . Not everyone wants to or can voicechat.

Things like this make me regret buying the game, but it specifically makes me regret paying extra for the Collector's Edition.

The lack of customer support is outright ridiculous, the community's requests are often left ignored and then declined, even if the feature is not exactly the hardest thing to program. Hunter Mode? People are having health problems? "Don't use the skill, your pain is by design". Text Chat? "We had it in the demo, but figured it would be fun if people were asking for it, and we would never care".

Sigh. Well at least we get responses on how much they never cared.

Your responses are fairly dismissive in nature you expect to know everything there is to know about the inner workings, some things can not be reaveled for different reasons and yet you constantly attribute them to "not caring" or "laziness".

Your thread title even has the shock word "deceived" in it, as did we ever make the claim that text chat worked?

....that's an amazingly well-phrased question.

What bugs me is that 10 months ago, we had this reply, then 10 months of nothing, and then we get no one actually bothers to attempt to finish this feature, even though the community concern was there, just as it was 10 months ago.

The problem is that you guys have created many great additions to the game. New enemies, a whole new faction, the Challenge system....
...and you'd think if you guys are capable of these, adding Text Chat would not be a significantly difficult task either. Especially considering the hotkey and the command was there ever since the Demo.

A multiplayer game with no text chat on PC is just ludicrous. Is a shame that recent games aren't including text chat in multiplayer (AC3).

I mean, text chat on PC is a basic thing in multiplayer games.

Corporations are not hive minds, not everyone is capable of knowing the state of affairs of everything. Slyvf is a writer so was not aware of the reasons it was lacking.

You once again are assuming it is as simple as enabling a hot key, which if it was that simple then yes it would have been implemented easily. There is more to it, I am a PC gamer myself so it's not that it is dismissive towards the PC community.

I sort of understand the issue revolving around text chat but if something needs to be said operators usually start screaming into the mic.
