I saw a Talk icon come up when I was near someone earlier.
But it went away to fast.
But it's probably not a good idea to be chatting on the PS3 like that, takes time to type a message there :P

I love you Bryan Johnson!!!!!! Dumb question, but since I am a Xbox gamer and have the chat and mic option, does it not exist in the PC version of the game? Cause of not, then I am not going to have my wife buy me that sweet PC gaming system for Xmas. On second thought, Skyrim looks awesome on PC and with the mod community in full swing, it is essentially a never ending game. Speaking of the mod community, are you quays going to do something like what was done with skyrim and release the game engine so the modders out there can continue to make MP and SP content?

Incompetence.

It's not a bug! It's a feature!

Seriously, Bioware, with all due respect, you guys have one of the worst problems with lack-of-supported-feature syndrome I have ever seen.

We can't have things like customizable controls, text chat, options to toggle off the brightness of Hunter Mode's filters for people with medical problems, improved connectivity, improvements in the store, or even expect things like basic issues being fixed in a timely fashion. And that's not even discussing the issues you gents have either chosen to ignore or remain silent on, such as Synckills, Psychic AI, and so on.

You guys give a litany of reasons why we can't have these, or why these can't be fixed, when you're not giving us the silent treatment: The chat feature's not complete. Hunter Mode issue complainers are a minority. The economy of damage excuse. The list goes on. So let me ask you:

What can we have?

Origin (overlay) provides text chat. But it's somewhat clunky and you need to be friends with whoever you want to send a message to, so that means you won't be communicating with PUGs unless you have a mic.

And that's exactly the problem.

Bryan - Is there any particular reason that you cannot tell us why text chat will not be implemented? People wouldn't assume that it's "as simple as enabling a hot key" if you could just come out and say the reason. It's pretty silly to be so secretive about such a trivial matter as the reason you can't have text chat.

If you can't tell us, though, (I realize it's not your decision) I'd suggest you quit this discussion while you're ahead. All you've managed to do here is be rather patronizing.

You know what games have their bugs and issues, but there are some things that are features, We definitely haven't remained silent on stuff like Sync Kills. You are right there is some stuff that we don't talk about, we do not do everything transparently, we are a private company after all with trade secrets.

Obviously we are doing something right and these issues not a huge issue if you could find enjoyment out of it for approximately 400 hours for a feature many people thought would be the biggest mistake of the franchise.

We have released 4 free pieces of DLC (another one for extended cut)

In a perfect world everything is fixed and things would be exactly how people want them to be, but this is not a perfect world. Do we like that there are bugs in our games, why would we these are products that we have spent years working on, and almost another year supporting.

Dear Bryan, thank you for taking the time to respond to my post. I appreciate it.

That said, I disagree.

When I made several threads (and one poll) regarding Synckill issues, I decided to engage in a little project and look up if anyone in the development team had discussed Synckills at all, other than Magnet Hands, in six months despite their being hundreds of threads about it. Surely, I thought, there had to be some official comment someplace about it.

After 4 hours and a few dozen pages of threads, I couldn't find any. The only thing resembling an official response to complaints about the Synckills was this. So, yes - by all accounts I've done so far, there hasn't been any official response on this. Or on the directly-related spawn-on-top-of-objectives issue. That started directly after the patch.

Now, let me be clear - I'm not ungrateful to the work you guys have done. It's very cool that you guys released 4 free pieces of DLC (financed by people buying magic space points), yes - but those three pieces have, perhaps by happenstance, proven to be bug-ridden, problematic, and riddled with issues. Nary a week goes by without yet another one being dug up, and they vary from bone-headed (Vorcha Hunter not having proper Sub Net at launch), to Vexing (Turian Saboteur having no powers that actually benefit from Tech Vulnerability on Sabotage; issues galore with Sentry Turret), to lethal (Collector issues in general). Many of these issues are simple fixes - ones the community has advocated for a while, and often with simple, common-sense solutions - and the result has been, by and large, silence. That is why so many people are growing increasingly-cynical. Throw in issues like what happened to the poor Havoc recently...? And yeah, I kinda think people are justified in being concerned.

care about this game's multiplayer. Like you noted: I've spent like 400 hours playing ME3's multiplayer. However, it's worth noting: that hasn't been 400 hours of raw enjoyment. It's been an experience with some basic fun here and there, and a whole mess of manic frustration. My own masochistic quirks are as much to blame for me playing it as the few friends that meet up with me for the mission weekends. This game could be so much better than it is now, though - and it wouldn't even take all that much work to do it.

That is, ultimately, the message I'm trying to get across.

Peace out, Bryan. Have a great holiday.
...But don't think me or the others who find some of the handling of ME3's issues to be lacking are going to be silent.

this game is so fast, when would you ever have time to type something without getting shot down or grabbed or geth bomer bombed? If on gold I stand around more than 5 seconds in the same spot i get reminded that i shoulda kept moving by my barrier failing. or a brute running me over. or a scion blowing me into next week. or... you get the point

also you're watching the enemy in front of you. the damage direction indicator to see if somethings shooting you from elsewhere, you barrier/shields/health bar, your clip, your spare ammo, your teammates, the objective timer, your cooldown and now you wanna read what someone just typed as well? and think about wether to reply or not? and if so what to say and how?

tl;dr - i don't think text chat is practical in this kind of fast paced game. mics are fine, this is a non issue for me.

Don't project your own limitations and lack of imagination onto the rest of us.  Thank you.

Did you accidentally type a bunch of "you" and "yours" when you meant to type "I'" and "me"?

One of the simpler reasons i can think of is that the comments would have to be logged and sent back to the server. I doubt the basic texting in the engine does that. To not have the ability to log comments/handle text complaints may incur legal issues (aka get banged for big bucks). To implement it would also require patching and adding functionality to the basic text ability, which costs manpower, time and thus money

Also performance will suffer both in normal circumstances as also in cases of some moron attempting to bombard the host with "qqqwqweqwyetqwrtrtqwyttuiqwr" comments in an attempt to lag/force disconnect someone he doesn't like. If the host's connection to the server that is logging the comments is saturated with this rubbish, unless he has a good upload speed, it will affect the game.

Then comes the server farm that will have to log the comments. That costs money and the connection will cost money, which if any analysis is done will point out that people have lived without it for 9 months, hence loss of players will be minimal and gain of new players who paid for the game will be minimal

Sabbatine,

Is there any particular reason you (Yes, you.  I'm using the word you) are being a jerk to him?  I think you probably understand what he is saying.  He is saying there is a lot to look at on the screen and text chat adds more.  Do you mean to tell us that looking at ammo, health, the enemy, etc. is one of HIS limitations?  Do you run around and not look at these things?  Do you not look at the enemy in front of you?

I just imagine you sitting at your computer with a blindfold on, playing like a Jedi.  I wish the rest of us didn't have our limitations (You know,  like looking at stuff on the screen), so that we could all play like you!

Zhuinden are you still getting credits and everything? :( I've been hoping since March that bioware would implement some kind of text chat and ping indicator, so of course I was going to give this one a try. Only tried it out on some private solo games, and since then I've been getting no credits. Had three straight gold matches, zero credits and xp. This has never happened to me before. Maybe it's just a coincidence? Or maybe the bioware are on to me for disregarding their artistic integrety?
