To be honest, you would have done the world a favor by staying silent instead.

Zhuinden are you still getting credits and everything? :( I've been hoping since March that bioware would implement some kind of text chat and ping indicator, so of course I was going to give this one a try. Only tried it out on some private solo games, and since then I've been getting no credits. Had three straight gold matches, zero credits and xp. This has never happened to me before. Maybe it's just a coincidence? Or maybe the bioware are on to me for disregarding their artistic integrety?

I have it enabled now and I've been receiving credits normally. Sometimes I've had some sort of strange glitch occurance where I played a game, and for example bought a pack, then it nullified whatever credits I had prior. It was odd. There was also a time when I played a game and I left afterwards and I didn't have the credits from it.
I think it's a coincidence, because I had these problems before the console enabling alteration.

Sorry it was actually the wrong thread but still wouldn't want a text chat on a game where so many people can't speak english...so just cry  it won't come!
I'm not native as well but listening to people discussing somethin on mp is already a bother if you have no clue what they are talking about, but it's tolerablel, but even chatting in 2997 different languages oO I'd rather go without textchat
and for dividing mp between nations we are too few and we don't want that anyways

Just had another game and got my credits , so hopefully it was just a 3 time thing. As for bioware not ever planning on putting in text chat, or explaining why, the way I see it is very simple. People have always been making all sorts of excuses for why we don't having it, like it would turn the game into a bacchanal of profanity and debauchery unrecognizable from a Caligula movie, or that it would be intrusive, or whatever (like voice chat isn't?). But the real reason, in my opinion, is just simply business, and as for all businesses, if there's no profit to be made or positive PR to be gained it's not worth it. There's no money or microtransactions in a ping indicator, like there is in Dlcs. Sure just about every single multiplayer Pc game in existance has ping and text chat, but this is a console port, and Pc holds a smaller marketshare and isn't on their priorities. If they knew people would shell out money for text chat Dlc, it'd be out on day one.

We definitely haven't remained silent on stuff like Sync Kills.

Yes? And you said what, exactly? No, go on ahead, we're waiting. We've been waiting for some feedback on that since day one.
As you're apparently NOT aware, people here are not unappreciative of all your work on mp of this game, on the contrary. But you also have to realise that what you have here is faaaar from perfect, make no mistake, people here play this game only because Mass Effect as a game platform is very addictive, but if that wasn't the case, then MP such as this would sink like a rock. What we merely want is more feedback on problems, and what you're doing, or not doing to fix them. No shame even in saying "sorry fellas, this feature isn't getting fixed any time soon".

The inability for people to harass other players is actually a strong argument against text chat, sadly.*

My friends list is a lot smaller in Origin because of no text chat, but in Origin I will also never have to read the abuse that was posted tonight to a 4th player, because she was a she.

*Hearing abuse over a mic actually makes me laugh.

Noble ThirdWorldAssassin brings up an excellent point, and nicely-surmises my original point - that directly contrary to what Bryan said, there has been nothing but obfuscation and utter silence on matters repeatedly addressed by the community. At least the health-gate issue got a "we're looking into it" message, and at least the text chat issue had a "we aren't planning to implement it because reasons" excuse - things like the objective spawn issue, synckill issues, and myriad problems discussed previously in this thread have never been addressed.... In spite of half the community or more voicing concerns.

But then, what can we take from this? If these issues do not warrant a response, what does? The argument I read often on GameFAQs - that all of these issues are ignored because it increases lethality and ergo people purchasing magic space points - have a leg to stand on specifically because of silence on these very issues.

In short, even some small level of information could assuage a lot of worries...

this game is so fast, when would you ever have time to type something without getting shot down or grabbed or geth bomer bombed? If on gold I stand around more than 5 seconds in the same spot i get reminded that i shoulda kept moving by my barrier failing. or a brute running me over. or a scion blowing me into next week. or... you get the point

also you're watching the enemy in front of you. the damage direction indicator to see if somethings shooting you from elsewhere, you barrier/shields/health bar, your clip, your spare ammo, your teammates, the objective timer, your cooldown and now you wanna read what someone just typed as well? and think about wether to reply or not? and if so what to say and how?

tl;dr - i don't think text chat is practical in this kind of fast paced game. mics are fine, this is a non issue for me.

Don't project your own limitations and lack of imagination onto the rest of us.  Thank you.

It's hard to spot that little gem there, isn't it. I was actually talking about me and not "the rest of us".
However I congratulate you for your lack of limitations and imagination. U rock.

You shouldn't have done that...  people who talk about themselves don't say "you" or "you're".

LtAdams2247 Origin wrote...

Let me guess, you meant to type "I'm watching the enemy in front of me..."

Did you really mean "this game is so fast, when would I ever have time to type something without getting shot down or grabbed or bomber bombed?"

Did you accidentally type a bunch of "you" and "yours" when you meant to type "I'" and "me"?

As I said, stop projecting your limitations onto the rest of us.  Thanks.

I use "you" whenever I'm asking a question. I use "I" whenever I make a statement.
But whatever, dude. Text chat ain't happening. Merry Christmas.

He is saying there is a lot to look at on the screen and text chat adds more.  Do you mean to tell us that looking at ammo, health, the enemy, etc. is one of HIS limitations?  Do you run around and not look at these things?  Do you not look at the enemy in front of you?

Mass Effect 3's ui is designed in such a way as to minimize the complete reliance on the visual.

I don't need to look at my health because there is a distinct sound that lets me know when my shield is gone, and an over all screen filter for when my health is low.

I don't need to look at my ammo because I know my weapon fires three shots per thermal clip and has 31 shots of spare ammunition (or enough for ~10 thermal clips.

I don't need to look at an individual skill button to figure out how much time remains on the cooldown, that is represented in the center of the screen by two half circles that separate when a cooldown is active and merge back into a single circle when an ability is ready to be used.

While zoomed in with a scope the vast majority of the screen is unused space.

Chat would not actually add much clutter considering it'd pop up for a few seconds and fade rather than it being a permanent always visible ui asset like the life/shield bars.  Claiming it takes so much attention to mentally manage all those different UI components that a text chat system wouldn be useful (as some in this thread have claimed) is just insulting to how good the user interface actually is.

Honestly the main embarrassment I see from the employee is the entire dismissive attitude toward hunter mode. Thanks for making a class for me unplayable, unless i skip it's main draw power thats exclusive to him.

Text chat is...less important.

The class isn't unplayable for you.  You choose not to play it because the drawbacks do not outweigh the benefits in your mind.  Hunter mode bothered me at first too but I dealt with it and now I don't even notice it.  It's a great way to balance a very powerful skill.

I would have to disagree on that point.

Something that causes people physical discomfort or even pain is the worst possible way to balance an ability in a video game, and I suspect that is not the reason why they did it.

Text chat won't be available because Microsoft and/or Sony demands that the PC version may not have any features not present in the console versions.

It gives me intense headaches. Tactical cloak should launch spikes from your mouse/controller by your argument Sabbatine. The class is borderline useless if you dont spec into its draw skill, it becomes eh. It's like playing a vanguard without charge, and having charge punch you in the crotch every time you use it.

All this ridiculous hate for HM.

Most people just complain because they become useless and can't cope with the actual HUD effects. Not that it hurts their eyes (granted some legitimately have sensitive eyes) but a lot just want to pose a feasible argument to BW to make some change.

Also, Tactical cloak isn't a toggle power thus requires no actual draw back, much like Annihalation Field, Marksman, Adrenaline Rush.
However they did make it so TC does not allow shield regen which can be very taxing if you wish to use it to escape.

HM was designed as such, drawbacks and all and won't be changed by a minority. Either you'll need to adjust contrast/brightness, learn to deal with it, wear sunglasses or just don't use HM at all.

why do people think bioware (or any other gaming company) just want to ****** their costumers off? I don't get that. Think before posting. Bioware wants to make money with their game, so basically it is in their interest to make their player base happy. If it would be easy  to implement this feature, then why wouldn't they? You whiners are so egoistic, that oyu always asume devs want to ****** you off.

As a matter of fact there are always many things involved. There could be some bugs with the chat, which aren't worth the effort of fixing. There could even be issues with censorship and game rating. Here in germany the game is 16+, so afaik to keep this rating, your chat would need a chat filter. There could be issues with that. You guys simply don't know what exaclty is happening. But one thing is for sure, if it would be easy to implement, they would have implemented it. They didn't and they have their reasons for that. Just because you don't know them, doesn't give you the right to accuse bioware of being the evil company who hates their fans.

I have to say.....I love senor johnsons responses to threads. He's not afraid to be straight up with people, and damned if he doesn't seem to have fire when defending the development team - especially considering, as qc, I'm sure most of these decisions were out of his hands. Way to be a team player man, I wish my job was like tht, where we felt loyalty to our employer and teammates.

No, this is not right. You gain advantage over console players, that can't textchat. This is against the rules of commu sportsmanship.

I don't know about the Xbox but on PS3 you can text chat from any game. You can simply go to the XMB during the game and send messages to people.

I like how this thread is very negative. The WHOLE MONTH of December has been negative so far. At least be positive for once.

But anyway, I don't have a PC copy of ME3, but having Text Chat can be troubling. I know certain Fast-Paced shooters like Blacklight, Counter-Strike and others have it implemented, but would seem a bit clunky in ME3. It'd also give A-holes the opportunity to just troll. I could respect call-outs and strategic implementations, but it would seem a bit awkward (from what I've seen and experienced).

I'm willing to give support to this issue, but it seems like it's kind of dead at this moment. Bryan seemed like he just rage-quit due to the negativity of this. But anyway, I hope you PC players get something out of this.
