I play 100% PUGs. You want characters playing with the strongest weapons or at least an efficient setup in a gold or plat game.

If you are already playing with familiar gamers, I can understand.

I like try hard games they are usually over pretty quick instead of becoming a 30 minute grindfest.

This happened to me the other day playing pugs for fun. In all honesty in my mind no one knows who I am but then this happened to me also. After the matches I get a message from two of the guys in the match who switched to Harriers and Turian Ghosts for the second game after I outscored them heavily on the first. I started playing a Phoenix Vanguard.

They sent me messages like "it was great playing with the great INVADERONE". I responded kindly as the messages were too generic for me to take it any other way but every kill I went for they were hardcore killing even when the character had one bar and I was right in front of it. LOL. Its all good. I have nothing to prove and I guess its a fun thing for people to "outscore" BSN'ers etc.

exactly that. I don't have fun in a game competing for kills. I just want to relax , chill and kill things w/o trying to rush and nuke every spawn and not help on objectives or revive teammates etc.

Thats why i play gold over platinum. I just have more fun with it and even "bad layouts" are effective and can be fun to use.

That's so true. Though I can feel a little useless playing with n7 fury or batarian slasher that's wrecking the map. While I'm going as a sniper.

Can't speak for anyone else, but this is my mentality about trying harder:

If I have a poor showing in front of apparent "elites" in the lobby, then I'm afraid the next time I get into the lobby with them, they will auto-kick me. The player base is getting smaller and smaller.. (even on XBox) so you want people to remember you as at least being a decent player.

Bronze: I'll play whatever I want for the sake of challenges.
Silver: I'll still play whatever.
Gold: I'll play the best I have available because I don't trust anyone I don't know in public games.
Plat: I don't even bother to play it. I don't feel like any of my equipment is good enough.

tl;dr I change what I play based off difficulty not whose in the lobby.

It's unlikely that your name will be recognized and there are a variety of reasons why someone might change their load out.

I do know alot of players aren't on BSN. and I don't have PUGs normally, but i'd say 50% of teh time i have one its from BSN either somebody i know (megasbeast came in as a PUG in one of my games last wek lol) or somebody i don't but they send me a message before/after the game saying they know me from BSN.

Lol.  I have reached the conclusion that no matter what you do, when you see someone "famous" from BSN the best course of action may be to leave the lobby immediately. Otherwise, you'll either be called a "tryhard" for using a strong char/weapons and outscoring then, or a noob for using a strange/unusual combo and scoring below them. And possibly other insults too. There is no pleasing some people. 

Sadly, I am making a generalization here because I've met some "famous" people from here who are really really nice. But it's better to be safe than sorry.

its a BSN thing. Anytime i've played with someone from the forum for the 1st time they always seem to go with high powered setups and really give it there all. IDK why. usually they fall back into the chill classes after a bit though. I guess 1st impression?

When  I ran with ya the 1st time I used my rinky dink justicar My infiltrators and Turians never had to leave the bench ;3

 Did you ask if they wanted an autograph?

I just assume they all do, so i send them a link to my autographed headshot after the game. I also get alot of e-flowers and e-choclates emailed to me

Your high n7 score may affect that a tiny bit.  Caine appears to be just looking for attention again as I suspect most people outside of bsn don't really know who he is.

lol i got one of my friends 4 times over 2 games.
1) trapped in reactor
2) PA with a homing grenade
3) PA with a CSMG
4) PA with the missile launcher


also one time (by acident) while using a paladin and being chased by a PA i meleed him away and he landed right next to a random across the map and died from the flame shield DOT and killed him. i felt bad but had to laugh at the same time
