Thank God for Steam sales or I would've have felt screwed out of my money, Spec Ops the Line.

Point of what? That war is hell? That people are bad? Am I suppose to be moved or be enlightened by some video game character making tough choices? The game was too short, the controls could've been better, too linear and the loading times sucked. I don't see the justification for paying full price especially after finding out that they didn't even intend multiplayer with it.

Yeah war is hell. And some people are bad. The games goes a lot deeper than just that though. However since that doesn't interest you and you just want to be ‘badass' and blow stuff up, then yeah the game should have been longer and multiplayer may be a main reason for that. Not much else to say.

So if I'm interested in the story, the game is magically longer?

The campaign don't.

But they focus on blowing up other people online more.

Like I said before, people don't buy COD cause of the singleplayer campaign.

With this game all I heard was about how great the singleplayer was (well the story) and not one word mentioned about MP, hell I didn't even think it had any. Then I find out that it's tagged on (and more search on the net reveals that's barely played). I just can't see how they justify selling that game at full price 49,99 euros (when it was launched) when it's so freaking short. ME had stories too, but it had a long playtime and high replay value (ignoring the crappy ending for ME 3).

Like I said, go play CoD multiplayer.

Why? I'm not interested in it.

Why?

You want to feel badass,  you want to kill virtual people as cool as possible, you want to be the big godamn hero don't you? CoD does that.

Spec Ops: The Line is a deconstruction of that, it's supposed to make you feel the complete opposite. I still suggest playing CoD multiplayer.

I'm happy with the length. I can tell you rushed through it.

I can live with no feeling like a complete bad ass in a game provided it actually gives more than just 5 hours of playtime. This is the point that I'm trying to make.

Nope, I listened to all the stuff the character said and picked up intel (didn't listen to it) and watched all the cutscenes. The only cut scenes I skipped was those that played again after I died (bad design to force a player rewatch a cutscene).

You keep focusing on the length. It seems story has very little appeal to you, given your comments in this thread. If your only metric, or your major/most important metric, is the length, then nothing anyone says is going to make you feel the game is worth full price. Since you didn't pay that anyway, I'm not sure what the issue is here. Obviously, there are a number of us that feel the game is good enough to merit full price (whether we paid that or not).

Try Far Cry 3. Great combat and a good enough story. Depending on you doing all the collectibles, side missions, radio towers etc it has lasted me some time.

There are the collectibles similar to those in Spec Ops: The Line that gives an insight into the history of the islands which are interesting.

Well I'm just surprised people that bought this game on launch don't feel screwed for playing such a short game at full price, when a game like ME, Skyrim, GTA and so on has five times the playlength (at the very least).

Yeah it looks pretty good, again I don't mind stories, hell I'm on a Bioware forum, what I don't like is a game that's shorter than Full Throttle. Far Cry 3 is definitely on the to buy list.

Indeed, they're all different in their mechanics and genre, what they have in common is that it takes a lot longer time to complete, has a good replay value and therefor the price is justified.

I also recommend Red Dead Redemption, Borderlands 2, Fallout 3 and New Vegas, The Witcher 2 and Deus Ex: Human Revolution.

All great lengths depending if you do the majority of it (story, side stories, exploration etc)

Again, though, you're focused solely on length. Longer gameplay doesn't necessarily mean better game. Hell, in some cases it can make games worse, since there are games where length dends on filler. For me personally, even though my favorite genre is roleplaying games, I'd take Spec Ops over something like DA2, which is a much longer game. Length has nothing to do with how good a game is, IMO, and therefore has little impact on value.

Won't buy Borderlands 2, looks no different than Borderlands, hated Fallout 3 (I didn't even bother getting out of the vault), loved New Vegas however!

Not interested in Deus EX, and the Witcher 2 didn't excite me when I played it.

Red Dead Redemption however is another game I like to get my hands on, since it looks completely awesome.

They have replay value because of their genres. Skyrim's a RPG sandbox, Mass Effect a RPG and GTA a sandbox. Of course they're going to be longer. But is length really a good way to measure a games worth? If I spent 100 hours running around doing tedious boring missions in a game compared to 10 hours playing something that's fun, is the 100 hour game better value?

If it's tedious and boring you shouldn't spend 100 hours on it to begin with.

Trust me, I thought the same thing for Borderlands 2. Do yourself a favour and buy it, it is extremably fun!

You hated Fallout 3?!  Any reason why?

Now Deus Ex: Human Revolution you do really need to buy,  I highly recommend this over the games I mentioned and Spec Ops, and trust me I am a huge fan of Spec Ops. The combat is great, not as good as Gears of War but better than most, excellent story, great atmosphere, awesome exploration and interesting themes.

I understand what you mean, It was hard to get into The Witcher 2 for me as well, just carry on a bit further, it does get better.

Red Dead is great, I forgot about it but I have slowly started playing it again.

I hated it cause it bored me out of my mind, I don't want to be stuck in a vault and "grow up" I want to get out and experience the wastelands. Hence why I loved New Vegas, I felt it capture the spirit of the first two Fallout games right away.

I don't know about Borderlands 2, it just seems... well it looks like an expansion pack almost.

I'm a very advocate that a game needs to suck you in right away, hence why I lost my patience with both the Witcher and the Witcher 2 (I bought Witcher 2 cause people insisted it was so much superior than the Witcher).

That's a pretty diverse list of game, all things considered. I find it fascinating how peoples' tastes differ, and how you just can't predict what someone will like and what they won't.
