Thank God for Steam sales or I would've have felt screwed out of my money, Spec Ops the Line.

DA2 was short.

DA ][, short? Hardly. it wasn't long, but it certainly wasn't short.

I found it short.

Yes, some people praise games like Dear Esther and Thirty Flights of Loving. If it weren't for these people, I'd be quite possibly very sad panda.

(haven't played Spec Ops yet, but from the stuff you're saying, I'll definitely buy it - though I agree that Steam sales are to be thanked for people complaining less about some longevity of the game... aah. wait)

And as to games with better story being magically longer, or better said, having more value to them, well... yes. Good stories and arts stick with you. Mindless stuff is a waste of time however. It's pretty much evil.

"Spec Ops: The Line" is on sale on Steam at $7.49. Worth it?

The gameplay is ok, pretty similar to Mass Effect except you get to carry two weapons only with you (made up by picking up different weapons in the area), it has a short playthrough length 5-7 hours (depending on you) and multplayer is just tagged on.  Low replay value. For the cheap price, yeah sure if you got enough to waste it away.

Otherwise no. I know most people will claim it's good cause of the story and all that, but the game suffers from a huge major plot hole, plus I can't take a game serious that tries to educate me on the horrors of war. I'll speak to my father if I want to hear that.

Actually it's a deconstruction of the glorification of violence in 3rd person shooters, being a gung ho hero, and preconceived notions on the portrayals of enemies.(E.g. your typical Muslim fighter in shooters.)

OdanUrr Like M25105 posted, the campaign is 5 - 7 hrs long while the multiplayer is half@ssed due to it being forced on the devs. Also don't get the game if everything i mentioned above is not your type of game, but if it is then $7.49 is worth it.

Plus check out this thread to see if it's for you.

Dragon Age ][, average time is 33+ hours.

That's not short at all. A heck of a lot shorter than DA:O, but not short.

Picked this up from Amazon in the Bioshock1+2 plus Spec Ops bundle and got around to finishing it yesterday.

I was expecting the gameplay to be awful based on what I had heard but it was fine. Not great, but it wasn't egregiously bad either. The encounter designs are boring but on some level you could almost think of that as part of the game's message on your typical Call of Duty shooter, although thats likely giving the developers too much credit.

The story is why you'd play Spec Ops though. And if you've played any number of modern military shooters, the story of Spec Ops is refreshing. It makes you feel like ****. And thats a good thing. Nolan North does a fantastic job, especially as the game goes along and Walker's voice changes, even if its just when he says he's reloading or confirming kills. I think it could handle some elemets better to convey more player agency- the white phosphorus scene, mainly- but its a game that makes you think, which is nice.

I haven't beat Spec Ops, but I'm a couple hours in. The problem I am running into is with the checkpoint save system. I'll die, reload at a checkpoint and have almost no ammo, which makes continuing through the level quite difficult.

Spec Ops is a decent game. The gameplay itself is pretty mediocre, but the story makes up for it. Well worth 5 EUR.

5 hours gameplay in the singleplayer lol. Sometimes I think the game developers forget that the story is there to enhance the game, not to take over. I'm going to try multiplayer a bit, but I'm not that impressed, hell Mass Effect 3 had a better cover system. Did I have fun? Yeah, somewhat, except for the long loading times that was very very annoying.

So question to those that bought this game for full price when it just came out, are you guys happy?

Edit: I understood that the story would be heavy when I bought this (and thank God you can skip it), but five hours in the singleplayer is laughable.

OP, I know that five hours of gaming seems to be short; but may I ask:

How long a game have to be to get you satisfaction?

Spec Ops did in 5 hours what ME3 couldn't in 30, plus 300+ hours of multiplayer.

It satisfied me.
