But didn't someone say the qunari in the comic were dressed similarly?

They are.

::image snipped::

But we should take into account that they were in qunari territory and I don't expect them to walk around fully armored in their homes. Also, this was a tropical island so, it's possible they are expected to board a dreadnought at a moment's notice to fight off Tevinters and thus, shouldn't wear armors so they do not drown.

Well, the City Guard in Kirkwall went around in heavy plate armor even in their own territory.

Tropical island is a good pont though.  I imagine steel armor would get uncomfortable in that.  Even with qunari endurance...

Yes, though they were in Seheron and not expecting a fight.

I think from now on we should expect qunari to be shirtless except in certain circumstances.

I think all the men in Thedas should be shirtless.

Sure why not. Some people like that kind of look so why not let them enjoy it.

This thread is asking why Qunari do not seem to wear armor, despite the Codex referring to them as armor clad.

It is explicitly not about their horns.

We haven't seen them conduct an actual assault with their land troops yet.  For all we know their main ground troops wear heavy plate.  Seheron and Par Vollen are hot and steamy, so wearing heavy armor all the time probably isn't practical there--that, and they seem to go in for ceremonial clothing/armor for daily wear.  The Qunari in DA2 were a.) navy and b.) lost most of their stuff in a shipwreck.  So, ultimately, we really just don't know.

So, to my question: If the qunari were to hypothetically appear in Inquisition or in future games in a military, non-shipwrecked manner, would they be sporting armor or paint?

Or both?

They will probably have both. A number of design elements in DA existed because they didn't have the time to properly flesh out the setting. More than likely, they'd have made several versions of the qunari with the painting only fellows being the rank and file.

Then again, they might not because DA:I might have female qunari as well, which would double the the number of models needed.

Huh...

I'd guess it would depend on how prominent the qunari are in the story.

If yes, then what do you guys implying when making Qunari have Satanic look? With horns, red in color, war-like, gruesome and terror?

If you saw a painting of a qunari in an art gallery and suggested that the painter was invoking devilish imagery or perhaps a pagan deity/spirit, no one would mock you and most people would be open to your interpretation.

But this is a video game so the audience isn't receptive to the same interpretation.

I think the best way is Bioware make two different races of Qunari...

i - DA:O Sten Qunari - Dark skinned giant humanoid with white hair, human-like, wearing armor

ii - DA2 Qunari - Satanic horn headed red skinned humanoid, minotaur-like, shirtless

This way...it make sense...

make it that Sten of DA:O Qunari race actually have war with Arishok of DA2 Qunari race...they are known as Qunari because they are of the Qun, where their people have no longer known by any race or named race

Or you could read the in-universe explanation for Sten's lack of horns.

Or you could read the real world explanation for Sten's lack of horns.

By means...evolution not completed?

Qunari is a race or anybody who submit to the Qun?

If "Qunari" is like what the so called explanation, isn't that make it TWO DIFFERENT race?

Jamaican are black skinned too, but they are not like Sudanese...they both Africans

Didn't they have whitish or silverish skin with red paint, NOT red skin?? That's sure how they look in my game.

And I never, not once, ever thought they looked satanic. That's your interpretation painting a bias against them. They don't look remotely satanic to me. They were always supposed to look like the DA2 version.

But really, you want to keep complaining that they look satanic, own up to the fact that you're the one forcing that interpretation onto them and it was never BW's design goal. Also, those elves converting to the Qun don't look Islamic to me either. I have met real Islamic people. They look nothing like those elves and their clothes look nothing like the headwear and tunic/trousers the elves wore.

I swear, this has got to be one of the most ridiculous arguments, and there's been some real doozies lately.

No lack of horns is akin to having red hair in humans.  Just a variation.  And Qunari can include anyone who follows the Qun (like Talis).  Those who abandon the Qun are Tal-Vashoth.  And they don't have red skin they have red body paint on- they have silver/bronze/gold skin.

Evolution doesn't really work in Thedas. Just look at the elves, nothing of their genetics that makes them elvish seems to survive if they mate with non elves. The fact that these species can mate with other species and not have children with issues is also interesting, but that's fantasy.

The horn "trait" or "gene" just doesn't activate for some qunari, not that strange, like some traits in humans, some people are albino, some not, some have eyes of different colors, some people have eyes that match. Have to give science a big stretch when applying it to fantasy... especially when wizards are about...

Anyway, ON TOPIC:

I think the qunari in war will wear the armor, unless the Qun demands otherwise, and when on other duties may not. I think the theory of losing their armor makes sense as the relic was more important than conquest, so the armor was not worth saving compared to getting the relic ASAP.

There is a perfectly good reason for why the Qunari marines don't wear armor. Armor sinks.....
