How do disc-based expansions work on the PS3? Do you just need to have the original install from DAO still on your hard drive? I hope it's not something like you have to switch back-and-forth between discs.

I'm curious on that myself as there haven't been any disc expansions on PS3. I'm hoping it will probably just install from the disc the same way as DLC would install, disc switching would be a little annoying to be honest.

if I am not mistaken in the notice in the e-mail about Awakenings it will be available as Download also, if that is just for the PC though is a question. and PS3 has had other games that have installed into existing core games. for example the various track packs for Rock band all can be installed into the main game.

it will just install to the hard drive similar to xbox 360. i remember buying oblivion the game of the year edition that was disc expansion not to sure if it came out on PS3 thou.

I'm guessing it will be like the Oblivion expansion--just a (downloadable) install, and you still put the original DA:O disc in.



Maybe people that get the disc-based version get something spiffier.

Oblivion Shimmering Isles was also a seperate disc for the PS3 as well.  the Game of the Year had both Oblivion and Shimmering Isles on same disc for PS3.

I understand you can download, too - I think they confirmed that there will be both disc and download options. But if you had the disc, I was wondering how it would work and which disc you would need to play the expansion. If you just needed to install something from the new disc, couldn't you in theory just rent it? Or if you played off the new disc, couldn't you sell your old copy? That's why I'm asking. I didn't want to sell the game if I was going to still need it. Otherwise, I sell my old games quite often.

from reading the interview on IGN, sounds like it will run from the new disc. but this is speculation.

I don't think they are going to let too much out of the bag. Not until it comes closer to the release date. So it could be a download or it could be disc format, if it's a disc format that should be very interesting. 9 out of 10 it's a disc.

I hope you can buy the disc and dl it to your PS3 hardrive and both versions of the game can be played with the expansion disc in your PS3.
