Something like poker or bar fights, you know, mini-games like in Assassins creed 3, Far Cry 3 or Witcher 2. :wizard:

why would I want to play a game where I have a chance of losing my gold? Never did understand the fascination with gambling. I vote no.

It's a matter of atmosphere, and I don't see Bioware putting enough emphasis on it to insert minigames such as dice, or whatever into the game.

However, I would love to see it, as it adds a lot of character to games, especially if the games are fun and created specifically for the setting (such as Caravan from Fallout New Vegas or the dice thing from the Witcher)

I never play any of the games of chance within games.. Well maybe not never. I played them in witcher 2 because they were a quest, but once a beat the quest character once I moved on.

Its basically a ploy used to make it seem like the game has more play hours than it really does, IMO. I don't understand the allure of gambling myself.

I play those games when I need money. I need 10 gold coins to buy that sword, easy, I go to the tavern and play that game.

It's not the gambling that allure's me, it's the alternative way to make money.

(never gambled in real life with real money)

Games like that can be fun, although I prefer wagering on strategy games (like Nine Men's Morris in AC3). If they're in the game I'll play them, but I won't be sad if they aren't.

Meh. The brawls in Witcher 2 weren't really fun or anything. I'd be okay with games of chance, but I probably wouldn't spend much time on them personally.

It'd probably lead to a painful cycle of constant reloading. I vote no.

This.

BioWare has already included games of chance before. Baldur's Gate had gambling in the various circus tents and carnivals and the Throne of Bhaal had that cambion in Watcher's Keep. All that happened was that people saved first and then repeatedly reloaded until they got the best outcome. It was more tedious than entertaining.

Not like Assassin's Creed 3 please. I'd be down for Texas Hold'Em though :D

^ What they said.  They're never really games of chance, so what they end up being are RNG pinatas.  MMOs and JRPGs have plenty of those types of diversions to pad out playing or to kill time while waiting for a raid to get together.  But they also allow for endless grinding to make up for lost coin - DA doesn't have that.  It's much easier to just get a separate poker game.

A card game like Triple Triad from FF8 could probably work.

I wouldn't be against a gambling skill that could have points out into it as a non-combat skill.

If anyone has ever played Betrayal at Krondor, they had a gambling (and barding) skill. When visiting an inn/tavern, you could go play games which were not interactive - you would win of lose based on your skill level, not your own skill as a player. If your skill was low (like it would be I'd you put no points into it) you'd never make money off it without a 30-1 load/reload cycle for a few bits of chump change each win. In addition, each tavern only had a limited amount of gold, not a magical endless lot of gold. If you leveled the skill, it would pay off, but it wouldn't be game breaking either.

In light of that, I'd be fine with such games as an alternative source of income that didn't have a built-in method of scamming the money.

Who didn't spend hours wasting away playing Pazaak in KOTOR? Did you buy better armor for Carth or that awesome +1/-1 card?

poker is not a game of chance. any attempts to recreate poker in pc game is doomed to failure. and don't you say anything about far cry 3 or red dead redemption. it is not a poker, it's poker wanna be.

speaking of Pazaak - yeap that will do.

No thanks. I'd rather play the real game than some mini-game that could just as easily be a stupid facebook game. Throw in the constant reloading to ensure success, and there's just no upside.

Sure why not? I remember having the most OP gear in Fable because I played the gambling game in the Bowerstone tavern and was in plate armor after killing that first bee at the picnic site. Was awesome.

Besides that I think it would be fun. I thought it was a missed opportuniy in ME3 with the poker table.
