Zevran/Morrigan in DA1, Fenris DA2, Garrus/Jack ME1/2 ...so ya. X3
I do play nicer characters on the odd occasion but they don't seem to be as fun.

I'm pretty easy going when it comes to the LI options, but I would prefer a dude that is less broody and more upbeat, or funny. He doesn't necessarily have to be a goody-goody, but as long as he's fun to have in the party and fun to chat with, he'll be good for romancin'. XD

... I have nothing to add to this discussion, this fine gamer has already spoken for me.

Okay, I hope no one think I'm homophobic when I say that: I wish that if you decided your character is straight or gay, then you can't change your orientation. I found it weird in Mass Effect wherein Shepard was straight for the first two games, and then all of a sudden he turns gay in ME3. I mean I think it's okay if you you made him gay from the very beginning, so that it doesn't seem like a drastic change. I just think it's weird especially when you accidentally flirt with the wrong gender! Thank God, DA2 has those symbols to tell you!

...You do realize that their are more orientations than just hetero and homosexuality? Maybe that Shepard was bi or pan. Maybe it was a case of fluid sexuality. Maybe... it's up to whoever played their Shepard that way. Just because Shepard didn't outwardly express interest in people of the same gender does not mean that they "turned gay", it just means that they didn't show their attraction until then, for whatever reason.
As far as the actual topic goes... As long as I like the character and the romance arc is well written, I'm not too concerned about the specifics, though I'd still like to see a rugged warrior type who's bad at expressing affection. But I've liked most of the romance options so far, so I trsut that I'll find someone in DA:I as well.

What exactly is “normal?” Isn’t normality relative? Isn’t it all a matter of perspective and experience?Shadowfang12 wrote...
Honestly at this point I just want a nice, normal person. No one with a ridiculous amount of baggage such as "templars blah blah blah blah" or "magic blah blah blah." Just a nice, normal, level headed person. Is that too much to ask for?
All of the companions, including Aveline and Varric, are flawed. Delightfully and lovingly flawed, much like any human being. Their flaws will tend to be laden or tangled with drama, because it’s a game, and we need to inject elements of danger or tragedy or conflict in order to spice up the narrative.
It just seems that when the companions are viewed as "not normal" or carrying excessive baggage, they’re being judged on the extremes applied to their individual story arcs. And as such, the wonderful nuances of their personalities - that they are noble, loyal, witty, and affectionate - tend to be lost or glazed over.

When I said normal I mean't people that don't have like extreme trauma or other issues like that. I mean don't get me wrong, I know that it's supposed to be a somewhat brutal time period. But I got so annoyed having Anders and Fenris complaining about magic or templars every couple seconds. I'd probably like someone more along the lines of Bethany(if she wasn't your sister). She has problems, like everyone else, but she doesn't whine about something every couple minutes. That probably is related to the fact that in real life I can't stand people that complain all the time, it's one of the few things that actually pisses me off.

I flirt with men constantly.
and I'm a straight male.
Also: Just because he didn't bang a guy in those two games didn't mean he wasn't gay. Thats like saying Shepard is automatically Asexual if you didn't romance anybody.

Case in point - my Hawke romanced Anders in DA2. A really flawed character who would have annoyed the heck out of me in real life, but who I liked as a part of the story. Real-life me would have been yelling "what a horrible idea!" but game player me said "ooh, this will lead to more drama!" Objectively speaking I thought Hawke could have done better, but it was more interesting to play her as someone with a weakness for this mopey, over-dramatic (albeit quite good-looking) guy who really kinda makes her life harder.
Now granted, I do think that in order to make the romance believable, the love interest should have something about them that I can understand the protagonist's finding attractive. And maybe more than one thing, if the writers want to make sure I as a player am invested in the romance plot and hoping that my character and their love interest do get together. But there are a ton of different traits characters could have to fill that role.

Funny, charming, self depricating.
Its a shame that almost everyone except the most interesting characters in both the DA series and ME were romanceable by both male and female.
Miranda? Morrigan?
Nope
Depressing merril?
Pushy Anders?
Wouldnt even call Isabel a companion as she doesnt really follow any real relationship ques
They need to make the fun character romanceable by both not just some.
