Alistair, but into dudes.

Or Anders again. I have a major bone-on for tortured healer-types with a cause.

Initially, I was an Alistair fangirl: the knight in shining armor, the forgotten prince, silly joker type of guy. But the more I played the game and romanced him, the more I found him...wanting. Nothing against the people who love Alistair, it just turns out he was not my type. And for a little while I thought there was really no one else in DA:O I felt I could follow through a romance with. Then I saw this:

"Do you stare at everyone like that?"

This is one of the many lines that can start a romance with Zevran. I was admittedly hesitant when it came to romancing the upfront "pervy" elf. First impressions are hard to get around sometimes. However when I delved deeper and asked Zevran questions about his past, conquests, and regrets I became enthralled.

Zevran has a very practical, yet somewhat optimistic view of life. Despite his outrageous flirting he respects your Warden a great deal to the point he asks their permission to go forward in a relationship. You control everything in the relationship with him, step by step. It was an odd surprise considering his upfront behavior. But what got me, really got me, was not the one kill he felt guilty about, but his poem. A rather terrible piece of poetry, even Zevran laughs at it. When asked why he decided to share it with my Warden, he said that she simply looked unhappy.

She looked unhappy.

That spoke volumes to me. Honestly, I teared up. What Zevran did for my Warden made her feel like she was not alone, and someone was watching over her. There was no greater surprise, and heartfelt moment than that.

I want more of this. More depth, more surprises, and more pathways into a relationship. I don’t care if the LI is as attractive as a toadstool, or has Bishop's sparkling personality – if they are written well, I will love them.

I actually did grow to like Zevran a bit better than Alistair eventually. Alistair was pretty funny and pretty enjoyable to be around, but he was pretty damn childish. It made me kind of hate him, but I still liked him. The problem is any female character I try to rp end up brushing him off.

Of course, when they go for Zevran its kind of weird. He is pretty funny, flirty, optimistic, and can show that he cares for peop. On the other hand he will freely admit that he can be a rather cold blooded killer who has willingly killed someone he loved and spit on her corpse. Basically depending on the Warden it may be hard getting past the Assassin part. Hell Morrigan will have to compete with his level of evil. Actually I think she gives him Assassin advice in game.

When it comes to DAO I don't really have much of a favorite. I would say Leliana, but I'm not sure if its due to character or the accent and her singing. When it comes to DA2 Isabella might be my favorite since she is a pretty damn independent person who honestly have more of her **** together than the other romances do. Not by much, but her big problem basically comes down to either being selfish as hell or learning that she sometimes should put others first. When Isabella came back for the final confrontation with the Arishok to risk everything for Hawke and the rest of the city, it was a huge and kind of unexpected act from her.

Then again I do like our favorite Welsh Elf. Seriously I know there were a few people who fell for her simply because of the accent and her mannerisms. One of my Hawkes pretty much saw her as a little sister who needed to tough love.

ideal = (female with) a mixture of
charming, amusing, romantic, intelligent, independently capable mixed with visual and aural appeal
and I'm a sucker for sympathetic characters (as long as they are not too pathetic or foolish)

of course, I tend to roleplay so my character may choose someone else for whom they have better chemistry

Nothing to forgive, at least from my perspective.

But, now you know. And knowing is supposed to be half the battle. ^_^

DA2 love interests for me as a woman were a wash out. I thought Anders was a desperate, whiney madman and Fenris such a misery, albeit a hot-looking sexy misery!! Too serious.

The gay options of ****ty Isabella or crazy skinny little Merril didnt appeal either. I think if I could have a gay relationship it would be with a woman like Liara, she is an awesome lady!

.

 agree on these.

Well...I love zevran's shamelessness, his crude humor at random times and the accent. Fenris because he was somewhat broken and desired for your help but was yet strong and able to stand himself. I would love to see those qualities in another character.

So yeah, a cool love interest character could be a femme fatale noble on the run or possibly a Grey Warden too. How about you guys?

I suppose I would like for there to be a female love interest who's more serious in her attitude, to serve as a counterpoint the the snarky smartass that I plan my PC to be in DA3.

Am i in a tiny minority here, who doesn't care a little if LI's make an appearance in DA3?

As long as the story is good, and the characters are well written, i see no need for this romancing side-story.

Overall, when I played through DA:O i absolutely loved Alistair, but i got pretty pissed when he dumped my ass for being an elf D:<. I really liked the idea of Fenris, but he's just so mopey ALL the time! I kinda want a combination of these two (NOT IN CULLEN FORM PLZ), which means someone with a bad past who doesn't tell you the first five seconds they meet you, and then angst about it for the rest of the game. Also, a good sense of humour is absolutely necessary, just don't carbon copy Alistair. :)

I usually fall for the ones that have humour but when it comes to a sensitive subject they can't maintain it as it affects them too much. Not in the Anders way where all he talks about is mages in almost every conversation but someone like Alistair or Isabela. The romances where it feels like you have to work for their trust and love instead of insantly being granted their love after sex like Merrill and Anders.

Say Alistair was my favorite guy in DA:O but felt like a brother instead of a LI, kinda like Varric in DA2 except Alistairs was sensitive to talk about Duncan and you had to help him through that and accept Duncans death. Whether you did this as a LI or not it felt realistic either way and was one of the reasons I loved him so much and he was funny which are the romances I prefer. That being said I romanced Leliana as to me her romance felt like you really had to gain her trust with Marjolaine and make her fell that you won't hurt her. She will only have sex if she loves you showing that she isn't willing to commit herself until she does love them.

In DA2 I always went for Isabela. At first it was again the humour, then it became more about who she really was underneath instead of the person she wants you to think she is. People think she is a **** which is understandable but if you romance her you really see just who she is and I thought she was the best written character in DA2 as she showed the most character progression. Her issue isn't about mages and templars, her issue is her personal problem of getting attached to people which is why she insist what she does is skin deep which it is until she does it with Hawke.

The romances where you have to work for them to love you are the ones that I prefer. The sex in DA2 so early is to me proof that there is a romance but not love. With Anders and Merrill it felt okay what else is there? They gave there love too quickly and it didn't feel real. Plus I don't like it when they are totally fixated on one thing like mage, hatred of mages and blood magic. Isabela's carefree nature on the mage and templar issue made me happy as I knew I wouldn't have to constantly hear about that. So pretty much a funny character who doesn't obsess over something and makes you feel as if you have to work for their love.
