To be honest, Ashen Earth: if you were a fan of a game typically assumed to be "for girls", and you joined a community you really like, would you be surprised to see men making threads to know how many other men play the game like they do?

To be specific, I'm talking about the Sims.

I've actually never heard the sims being described as "for girls".
And what guy does not like to burn things?

My guesses for future comments...
This is a man's world.
Men are better at video games then women.
Women deserve to be treated with more respect in our community, since this is an action game for men.
Etc.

There are no guys on the internet. This is a well known fact. If you claim so, you must post pics.

Scrubs...

That's what I'm talking about! The game is hilarious. But it is true that it has a greater female player base, though luckily the developers haven't embraced this fact. The sims is marketed for everyone (at least it used to be, I haven't played the sims 3 so things may have changed), but the collective perception of it is what it is. And that's sad, because the game is enjoyable for everyone.

No I wouldn't be, but if I was a fan of that game I personally wouldn't feel the need to post threads letting everyone know that I am in fact a man, where it is totally irrelevant.

I'd probably call them out for being idiots, and then troll them.

The sims has a largely female player base because it's easy and requires no skill.

There I said it.

My ex used to play sims. (No she wasn't a "gamer girl".)

She was a pretty big scrub though.

Isn't the Mass Effect campaign easier if you play as FemShep?

Because I am a man, therefore I am entitled to everyone's respect simply for being a man.

So from now on when I post threads, I'm going to bring up the fact that I am a man.
