With me I didn't have that much trouble starting off. I beat bronze and got to wave 7 of silver in the demo and played silver regularly when the game came out. I don't remember the silver games I had that much because it was a long time ago. Then I met a friend who persuaded to me to play gold and I got used to playing it with him.

And as for soloing I learned everything just by playing with randoms and I don't even think I really tried to solo, it was always when my team mates were all dead.

And for platinum I decided to try to solo it about a week after it came out. I used the shadow, did giant cerberus and got extraction 1st attempt with 2 medi gels left. It took me 2 hours to beat and I said I'd never do it again.

Then retaliation came out so I had to solo it again. So I did the solo again and didn't find it that bad, so I started to do it regularly and started challenging myself. As of retaliation I've done 12 platinum solos.
