@Megabeast: Sadly, I am an irregular drinker, I don't drink at all unless somebody else has gifted me with it and it is a special occassion.

Don't misunderstand, PC has quality superiority, and in all technicality, it is the more powerful system, but inconsistencies kill it. PC gaming is the equivalent of living on the dole. You're getting benefits, everyone else hates you because you become smug and lazy, but regardless, if others stopped supporting the dolies, they lose out and ultimately either get back to work or die out. No consoles, no PC.

As such, console gaming is the valiant strong-arm holding the industry up, while PC gaming just sits there claiming to be superior. Phone-based/portable platforming is consoles little son who will grow up to take his mantle and continue his legacy, hopefully to a brighter future, while PC gaming sits along for the ride, all the while pretending to be in control.

PC gamers owe their spot to Nintendo. If Nintendo didn't come out with Super Mario Bros after that travesty of ET on the Atari 2600, gaming probably wouldn't be happening today. Eg. PC is Nintendos b!tch ;)

better to be Nintendo's b!tch than a peasent. Nintendo has Fire Emblem.

@megabeast spoken like a true peasant.

Fire Emblem on the Famicom was great. Don't understand Japanese, but I got the jist of the game.

I'm considering shelling out for a 3DS if the next one is as good as it looks. If you were a part of the Master Race you could get the emulator and ROMS for 6 thru 8. In English.

I have several emulators on my system. I have the games in English. So there. I have the GC/Wii emulator, N64 emulator, Dreamcast emulator, MAME, NES, SNES, and a PS1 emulator.

Good for you. -seriously- now for the important stuff, how much do you know about Awakening?

Once again a TEN YEAR OLD PC is running ME3 at a more than accetable speed. Although if my anti-virus and a couple Total War games are running it starts to lag.

I call BS.

It is, Mega. I have a 6yr old PC in my closet that, if I started it up right now, would lag out trying to run GW1 on the lowest settings.
The only way I can even see it possible, is if he/she went out of their way and bought a AW computer back when they were good.

I know right....

I have a 5 year old PC and I had to upgrade it just to play Starcraft 2 last year... dude is full of it.

Like I said... maybe he has the same case, but the guts must've been upgraded at some point.

I said I forgot that I upgraded. And apologized.

Are people really saying that they only get a new console every 6-8 years is a good thing?

Why? Are you poor?

I am not a poor person so I like to upgrade my PC every year or two. I would be pissed if I had to run my games on an old ass system.

So are you saying consoles are better because you're poor? Get a job you bums!

Do you know why there is no crossover play between consoles and PC's?

Microsoft planned to do it.  See this article: http://forum.frontro...n-the-coffin/p1

TLDR version: Microsoft scrapped crossover play because mediocre PC players with a mouse and keyboard wiped the floor with professional console players.

The mouse & keyboard is the best control scheme ever for FPS games.  The same thing was actually tried by Sega with Quake 3 on the dreamcast about 12 years ago.  The average score of PC player vs console player was 82 to -3.  It's THAT lopsided.  The PC control scheme is superior in virtually every aspect.

I will concede that the mouse is FAR FAR superior than a controller could ever possibly be.... but they keyboard... no way jose...

PC games and platforms are sustained by the consoles, without them, not only would the computer gaming industry have never lifted off, it would collapse and you'd be buggered any way. Consoles can survive without PC support, not the other way around

The lucrative business that Steam is, and successful indie games like Magicka beg to differ.

You're living in a bubble. PC games have always existed, and always will. The idea that PC games are somehow only possible because of consoles is quite frankly ridiculous.

There are swathes of PC specific titles and PC ported titles which sell highly; highly enough that developers continue to develop or port for PC.

The prevalance of a particular system (in this case xbox, which has a significat share of the market) is due to the inexpensive nature of consoles, and the fact that some people are content to pay the same amount for an entire console as some people are prepared to pay for a graphics card; balanced out by the fact that in many countires, Xbox titles on launch are sold to console mugs who pay 30-40% more for the same title that a PC user can play.

Popularity = more profit.

More profit =/= more invested in a game, particularly with publishers like EA and Activision running the joint.

And as for your comment that the PC game industry would never exist, there was a game called Unreal, then there was Unreal Tournament. Before gears of war was even a twinkle in Cliffy B's eye, Epic were making PC specific titles and built their entire company on the success of PC titles, and are making a return to PC specific titles with Fortnite.

I could go on about successful F2P games for PC, PC specific titles, high selling PC ports, but you probably aren't listening anyway.

Please, refrain from posting fallacious nonsense in future.

Unreal was a step forward in technology, but remember which games came first:
Wolfenstein 3D
Doom
Goldeneye
Half-Life
Quake

Yo! Thought about it. Still haven't. Wish Bioware would do the decent thing and start treating Mass Effect 3 PC as separate line where they actually can push continus code changes if they wanted to. It'd make a good chunk of their bug hunting more effective in the long run. *cough* Public Beta ME3MP for PC *cough*

hardware in general is becoming a non-issue, as moore's law reaches it's practical limit. the whole bloody argument will be moot soon enough. I've really had enough of this whole console vs PC b.s. It was kinda funny for a while I guess but now it's a "who's the better poe" contest.

only thing worse is the gullible idiots who feed the trolls.

Because WASD controls are absolute garbage that I despise with a passion. I don't have harsh enough words for how much I loathe WASD.

I plan on upgrading my PC when Heart of the Swarm comes out. I still play RTS games on PC.

I'll take dual GeForce 680s over some pos console that runs in low resolution.  I like to play games on my primary monitor while watching a movie on my second monitor and having skype video chat open on my third monitor.  Why?  Cause.....'MERICA!

Only in that movement is slinglyt more confied, however button acces for "powers" in games like Mass Effect is far bettter. The only improvment I could see would be a WiiMote Nunchuk like thing for the left hand with 4+ buttons on the grip

I'd say build it like this:

Analog stick with press down button on top

2 trigger buttons at the index finger.

3 buttons on the grip for middle, ring, and pinky.

Even then you're crippling yourself in a way because from 'D' I can reach 8 other buttons with my index finger at a streach, not to mention taking a momment to actually reach accross the keyboard to even more when I have a momment of not moving (like in cover). For power based RPG shooters like Mass Effect (which makes it rare outside of MOBAs, which are primarlly a PC fanomina), button access are more valuble then precise footwork by the character.

Low res on a console? Have you seen Uncharted 3, God of War 3 and Final Fantasy 13?

Out of the games you listed, only Goldeneye was a console-specific title.

Unreal Tournament would make no claims to be the progenitor FPS game, but my point was the success of Epic Games as a franchise is due to the success of their first 2 "major" games, coincidentally both were PC exclusive titles.

Video game budgets have increased over time, but - evidenced by games like magicka (after many bug fix patches) - high quality PC games, with lots of content at great value for money are entirely possible. Magicka sold over 1 million units and it was developed by 8 people, its an incredibly fun game and has lots of content to satisfy people.

The game market perhaps sells the highest number of games to console, but judging by the fact that call of duty has sold the most copies out of any game ever, I daresay that QUALITY over quantity is no longr an applicable rule, as the level of "quality" that the CoD franchise brings to the table is shockingly low compared to some of the games you listed.

Also, side note.... Call Of Duty started as a PC specific title, and was later ported to consoles and ruined by its subsequent 500 reiterations of the same dull, uninspired MMS game; which continues to be sold to console and PC players alike in the millions of units.

Here's something else that totally sucks about PC gaming: Drivers.

Just got a new peice of hardware... installed the drivers, ohh wait... now I gotta go to the company website and download new drivers, which may or may not cause other issues.

Got an aftermarket controller, same thing...

Gotta have more drivers to upgrade my drivers so I can drive my car in my PC driving game. The drivers crap is annoying as hell.

Console master race = open the game, put the disc in the tray, win. Plug in the controller, use it, win.

F Drivers.

Candlejack: your memory is short, I assure you that unreal was NOT the first game released for a platform, and I think you'll find that the first widely popular games belong to consoles. Nintendo got the ball rolling, not with a PC game, but with the SNES, which "saved" the gaming industry during a massive recession in gaming.

Console gaming started things up, and until mass PC systems are stabilized and locked at a set level, they will remain, also providing massive pocket for game developers. By the time PC reach the pinnacle of gaming, they will be rendered obsolete by the power of portable gaming, which IS the future, and WILL replace all platforms in ultimatum, until the creation of Stimulation-based or easily-localized/available augmented reality simulation systems, which are a touchy subject and will likely never get off due to the ethics and morality issues involved with creating exact or even near-reality simulations (Inception-style issues, such as loss of reality confirmation, making indiciduals perform abnormal actions resulting in harm to reality, mainly themselves or other people/organisms).

Portable gaming follows the same advancement style as other platforms. They are going to result in the end of gaming as we know it. Over time, they will be directly competing with higher-grade PCs, as the reality curve of game quality is clearly a curve.

I was just talking in general. I wasn't trying to link it to consoles. I admit CoD had its rep pissed all over by console players and, "MLG pros". CoD was ruined once MW2 came out.
