Considering letting Anders live or die was a pretty big decision in DA2, what would your reaction be if Bioware thought he was important enough to bring back in DA3. If you let him live it's all fine and dandy, but if you killed him how would you feel about him returning as some form of spirit zombie, abomination or maybe even as himself, considering if you choose to kill him you only stab him in the back (no decapitation) i suppose he could return seeing his link to the fade and him being a spirit healer and all.

(I'm not for or against Anders, just wondering what people's opinions are.)

On a related note how do you feel about "retcons" if an explanation is given about how a character survives etc.

All I can say about this is...

Cantina, I cracked up over your signature. Not trying to go off topic but what prompted David to say that? What thread was this taken off of?

It was in the DA2 forums about romance and the rather tame take on sex in the game. :D

I let him live. Just for lulz.

Being on run and hunted is more torturous to him than easily dying by a knife...and I'll have fun watching him hauling his ass around. And it also gives him a bit of his own medicine for putting all mages in hell.

Leliana.

I don't really have any problem with that one.
She died right near the ashes; I think that was a perfectly cromulent explanation.

Am I the only person who actually really likes Anders character?!  I thought the character development from pre-Justice Awakening to post-Justice DA2 was awesome!

I think he was a great character.
I thought that the direction they took his character development was brilliant, and his merging with the Justice character was a really interesting exploration of the nature of spirits and possession.  He was also well-written; you could tell that he might've once had a funny, witty personality but that it had been soured by all his anger at the plight of mages.  It was a good mixture of his old personality with the effect that Justice had on him.

That said, from a more personal perspective, I hated Anders in DA2.
I was a mage supporter and have no particular love for the Chantry, but I think DA2 did a good job of showing us that not everyone on the "other side" is bad, and not everyone on "your side" is good.  I was horrified by what he did and killed him for it.

I'd be ok with it. I killed him. If he comes back I would imagine its because Justice kept him alive or took over his body completely after a dose of murder knife.

If you kill Anders, then he's dead and no Justice will not be keeping him alive or wearing him as a corpse suit.

Indeed. While I've certainly no aversion towards doing such a thing if the story called for it (though a possessed Anders corpse would be pretty silly even for a hand-wave... I think I'd have an aversion to that), a dead Anders will remain dead.

If you believe Anders, then Justice would have been freed. If not, then Justice was destroyed along with him.

Either way, Justice won't be possessing Anders' corpse. A dead Anders is gone.

I'll leave that to speculation, though I doubt that would be a good solution. It certainly would not have simply killed Justice and freed Anders, at any rate.

Anders is the distilled form of human garbage. If he still lives on in any form, I hope it's his wandering soul trapped in the fade, forever denied rest.

I say this as a mage supremacist.

Plus if you kill him, he just becomes a martyr for the Mage cause.

It wouldn't be a retcon to bring Anders back, Justice(or should I say Vengance) is a demon now and is possessing Anders making him an abomination. Last I checked abominations can survive a whole lot more punishment than Anders received in his death scene. That being said I never kill Anders, but I also have no desire to see him in DA:I either way.

I believe Mary Kirby already confirmed Anders stays dead probably since his death scene is actually a major choice unlike the whole Leliana thing or killing Oghren.

He's dead if you killed him, Justice/Vengeance won't be possessing him nor using his body as a corpse suit.

Gaider said it and I posted it, other writer's and devs have said the samething if you killed him he's dead. It would be a retcon but it will not happen since they admit it would be silly and are against it.

I'd say if he's dead he's going to stay that way. We may or may not still see Justice in some form (I think Mr. Gaider confirmed that killing Anders would not destroy Justice in the same interview where he confirmed dead Anders will stay that way.) I have no problem either way.

I liked Anders' character in both DAA and DA2 as well. DAA Anders was much more fun but I had tremendous fun with Anders' OTT DA2 personality. He's so fervent and intense I can just see some of my PCs pulling practical jokes on him. Filling his boots with mud or sewing the cuffs on his pants shut sort of thing. Nothing that would actually hurt him or his patients, just stuff to make me laugh at his expense. No, I'm not being unkind. Whining and agita have a negative impact on emotional balance. Being the butt of a joke or two is a way to pay it forward.

No Anders did not make things worst for the mages. He merely sent a message indicating that mages will no longer take the Chantries crap, and therefour was willing to fight for what they truly seek, and that is freedom. Apparently the message got through with the Divine, since she was clearly on the side of the mages in Asunder, and actually granted freedom to the mages at the end. That is that truly started the war and how the Templar order and the Seekers of truth no longer takes orders from the Divine nor the Chantry for as long as the current Divine is in power.

If you want to blame the templar/mage war don't blame it on Anders blame it on the Divine. She along with her Grand Clerics were poor leaders, and allowed the abuse of the mages to go on for so long. Anders was willing to compromise with Elthina after the tranquality quest. He was willing to have a civil debate with Elthina.... obviously the results were not good.
