I'm not sure whether this has to do with having Adobe Air updated (it came automatically with the update and I had no clue DAO used it for registering the serial key), because i also placed a new graphics card today, but when starting the game i get the error:

Error: Could not connect to EA Core

It was working fine until after the Adobe Air update & graphics card installation.

Anyone having the same problem?

I must add that this is probably the last time I buy a game, I never went to so much trouble with pirated games in the past then with this game.
First problem was that the install was corrupted, took me several hours installing/deinstalling, then had to manually unzip a corrupted file.
The second problem was the same as I have now, with Error: Could not connect to EA Core, after searching a bit i found that you have to set the shortcut to run as administrator.
Third problem was, i installed the toolkit, which subsequently installed an extra folder in the original game, therefore for some reason my in game character was recognised as female in stead of male. I found this myself, because EA support would not help with in-game problems, although clearly it was due to a technical problem.

Great game, sure. But these problems do smell a bit amateuristic and most probably the fault of EA.
Then the support center of EA is what you would expect in the USA:
Do not read what is being said, just read the key words and reply with a generic answer. Showing what level of intelligence there is at first line support...

Please note the following BEFORE taking the easy road and answering with a generic answer:

>> The game worked fine until today

What happened today?
-> I installed a new graphics card
AND
-> Adobe Air was automatically updated (i did not realize that is was used for DAO)

Now I have the following error: Error: Could not connect to EA Core

Yes, ECN is disabled
Yes, EADM is installed
Yes, the serial key is installed

Remember, it worked fine until today

What can I do to solve this, please?

Hello,
Thank you for contacting Electronic Arts.

We apologize for the inconvenience caused to you.

If you are receiving a serial key or EA Core error, it may be because you have your ECN enabled. While this is disabled by default on most computers that aren't networked, some third party applications designed to improve your computer or internet performance will sometimes enable ECN. Please note that this is a workaround for advanced users. If you are not comfortable with changing your computer system settings, please do not attempt this solution on your own.

To check and see if ECN is enabled on your computer:

- Click Start, then Run and type "CMD.exe" or "Command Prompt" and click OK to open a Command Prompt.
- Right click the Command Prompt icon and choose "Run as Administrator".
- At the Command Prompt type the command "netsh interface tcp show global" and hit enter.
- If ECN is enabled, try disabling it before running the game again.

To disable ECN on your computer:
- Click Start, then Run and type "CMD.exe" or "Command Prompt" and click OK to open a Command Prompt.
- Be sure that you are running the Command Prompt as an administrator. You can do this by right-clicking on the Command Prompt icon and choosing to "Run as Administrator".
- To disable ECN type the command "netsh interface tcp set global ecncapability=disabled".
- Now run the game.
- If you would like to then re-enable ECN, open the Command Prompt and type "netsh interface tcp set global ecncapability=enabled".

If there is anything else we can help you with please let us know.

Thank you,

R

..........

Great game, but the support is very very bad. I would feel ashamed as developer with using so many superlatives to describe the game, knowing that these kind of people give support.
What a contrast.

open cmd and type in "ping localhost -4" and make sure that 127.0.0.1 comes up

if that isn't pointing to 127.0.0.1 then you need to reset your hosts file (google it).

if localhost is fine, try the following:

install patch 1.02

if that doesn't work, uninstall EA Activation and try to install patch 1.02 again.

Thanks Valaskjaf, but none of that helped, in fact, uninstalling the activation now makes the patch fail with error 36.

I'll try another clean install, if that is corrupt again, i'll just keep clear from buying software from EA.

Did you install your game to a weird location?

Nope, and like i said, it worked fine until yesterday.

I honestly fail to see the reason why I should troubleshoot a bloody game that I bought. I play a game for relaxation, this is doing the exact opposite, so I might as well uninstall it.

Did a fresh re-install, which went 100% ok. Installed the patch.

Still the could not connect to the core error.

I just shove this game off as a failure, took me too much hassle already with installing and deinstalling.

EA to me means now: Electronic Amateurs.

I can understand that it's difficult to make a sound system with the complexity of todays systems, but surely a company that has been into software for such a long time would have mastered it.

Specially the support is to laugh about and staffed with people who have no clue and or answers are given automated.

If you compare software developing between the USA and Asia, there is a huge contrast, where bugs in released software in Asia is almost non existent.

This just says to me that there is a difference in attitude.

If you pound your chest saying that you are the best, with software that is "never seen before", you better make sure that it actually is free of humiliating bugs. Otherwise you just make a fool of yourself.

Surely, this game is great, amazing graphics, well done. But if you get confronted with installation errors, errors when trying to play the game, contact support and get an answer that shows that clearly noone took the time to actually read your question, it just shows amateurism.

I am very patient, in fact, I am developer myself for more then 2 decades, but this just is unbelievable. I also hardly ever write in forums. But i have to say that this is something that they should be ashamed of.

That pirated software is actually a better choice then going with the buggy protection software from EA.

Anyway, I uninstalled everything, and I will surely not buy anything from EA anymore.

"When something's not meeting expectations... you can [of] course correct by giving it more time, more money, changing the concept or killing the game. If you're committed to quality, you take one of those paths. If you preclude any one of those paths, quality will suffer."   http://www.1up.com/d...ory?cId=3170691
which path will J.R. lead bioware down, i wonder.

hold on. were you getting the error before or after the patch?

anyhow, theres one more workaround: launch the game from EA Download Manager (log in and select "Play).

I do appreciate the effort to try and help me with this game. But to be honest, even if they were to make the best game in history of mankind, I will not spend my money on a company that does not have adequate service and support.

That being said, I do not wish to troubleshoot this any further and subsequently removed the game from my system.

I am sure they won't get any less sleep over that I do not play the game, after all, I already paid for it. However, with an aftersales like that, including the problems many people face, it just hurts their own business.
I have seen the previews for the upcoming game from Bioware, kotor online i think, where they made the announcement, quite unshamefully, that they were the first to voice over all npcs and characters. But I think Bethesda software already did that years ago in Oblivion.

Indeed, it is about quality. I know the pressure of time and investment, but if you let that decide the quality, it will be the downfall in the long run.

I know that noone will care, but I walk away from EA, perhaps Bioware, if they stay with EA.

suit yourself but the EADM workaround does in fact bypass the whole EA Core dialog.

May I ask which download service you used to purchase the game?

I bought the game on the EA site, and downloaded it with the EADM.
The play button never started the game, not at the first clean install and not when i tried it today after the new clean install. Before or after installing the update to 1.02.

In comparison, the play button worked fine with Mass Effect, which I also purchased and downloaded the same way.

Most probably I would get it going, but playing games is enough waste of time as it is. I do not wish to add hours of troubleshooting for something that I paid for. That is just idiotic.

But anyway, I deleted both, including all EA software that was installed. Unfortunately I already bought 1600 points or credits, not sure what it was called. But I cannot be bothered to download and install it again to see the DLC addons.

Adding to that is that it deleted my saved games when uninstalling, where i specifically did not check the box to do it.
I thought to keep it to try the pirated version when I got really bored, but oh well.
Again, with mass effect this problem did not arise when uninstalling.

All too wobbly for my taste.
