Have not used any leveling mods, nor the trap trigger in Lothering. I just rescued Anora and I'm level 20. Just curious as to what elvel people typically finish at. The rogue has eben invaluable for party exp through unlocking chests, doors, and disarming traps.

Probably a level or 2 alone from that alone.

If i dont do any side quests and just stick to the main quest. Then i usually finish the game at level 19.

I finished the game at 22 my first time. The second time I got a lot of levels through the donation to the armies and made it to 25. It was also me doing all the chantry, mage, and mercenary side quests there were.

Only finished once so far (have 8 others at various points) and I got to level 24 without cheating it up. But I did lots of side quests (not all though), got Easily Sidetracked around the time of the Landsmeet. And I have Stone Prisoner and Warden's Keep.

My first playthrough I did practically everything you could do in the game, though I didn't focus on gaining exp (and actually went to Denerim after getting all of the treaties, so I missed out on the codex belt.) Needless to say, I finished at level 22 or 23, not completely sure as I pretty much ignored it at that point.
I would imagine that without breaking the system for exp, you would probably only get to 24. This is if you went as far as making plot-decisions based on which would give more exp.

When I say breaking the system for exp, I mean using things like mass donations to allies (elves are the obvious choice) or various quest/trigger bugs.

I do just about everything possible, and have Warden's Keep. And only donate to the army what I find, so no buying of elfroot, but I do donate a ton of gems, deathroot, deep mushroom, and all my excess cash right before the final onslaught starts.

I'm usually level 24 at the end. Generally right around 20 when I head to Redcliffe to trigger the Landsmeet stuff.

I've finished the game at Level 23, doing the vast majority of the side-quests (minus the Antivan Crows, Favors for Certain Interested Parties, Slim Couldry), plus Stone Prisoner and Warden's Keep.

I finished at 22 and 23. I did most of the sidequests, never used the codex belt, and never cheated up with the glitches. I do have Warden's Keep and Stone Prisoner though.

Guess1,

You are correct. Without using any glitch/exploit or whatver...just over 24 is the max you will get.

Finished at 22 the first time round having missed various side quests.

Second time round I think I finished at 24.

I have yet to get Warden's Keep, so I guess there would be a level to gain through that too.

Donation to the armies? What is this?

I haven't done the mercenary/mage side quests. Are they playable for a 'good' character?

The allied supply crates in your camp, where you can donate to your allied armies. Money for the Redcliffe forces, crafting stuff for the elves, gems for the dwarves, and so on.

Donating these things isn't an exploit if you're just donating the excess you get while playing. You are supposed to do so. And doing it gains you xp. It doesn't actually do anything for the armies though - make them more powerful or anything.

After each treaty you get a new person standing around in camp.  If you talk to that person they will tell you what their army needs, and then you can click the crates in front of them to make a donation to help improve the army.  Donations give you xp.  Dwarves want gems, Elves want crafting components, Mages want runes, and Humans want money.  Its a good way to get rid of excess inventory clutter for XP rather then money.

All the job board quests for the mages and mercenary are fairly "good" aligned, at least in appearance.  There are a couple which make you pick a side.

Thanks, guys! I was wondering about them telling me what they needed, although I always seem to be short of cash and spending it on potion ingredients. I'd rather have the experience a lot of times, though. Good to know.

I'll have to check out the mercenary and mage content.

Checked out the mage quests. They seem pretty sketchy bribery, warning the families of blood mages, giving them scrolls of banistor.... These could all be very bad. I think I better not do those because there's no option to find out more details.

22 without using the belt, although I did give a lot of stuff to the guys at camp. Without realizing that they gave exp, though, so wasn't exploiting.

Wow, I only made it to level 19....made the last fight kind of hard. (But I'm lame and played on casual my first time through...so that probably had something to do with how I managed to actually finish.)

I tried to level up more...but ran out of monsters to fight. Is there somewhere that provides a constant stream of darkspawn/creatures to kill?

Playing through it normally (doing most of the side quests) usually gets you to 22 or 23.

Metagaming can get you Level 25 without use of allied donations or glitches.
