Well, from what I can tell, Alistair will be there for at least a short time, so my romance character will essentially continue.  :kissing:

I have romanced Alistair too, lol. I just wished to see him be there for a long time, and not short lol.

yeah, but the problem i see, is that they'd really need to kill them off, cause this supposed to be a rpg, and i see no way in hell i get separated from the one i choose.

So, no I do not think Bioware is risking making a game that will ruin the experience of many people. Some people? Maybe.
And keep in mind that while romance options may not fight in our party, it is still entirely possible, until proven otherwise, that they are npcs. Which would be great and sufficient imo.

Oh contraire, my life--not just my experience--quite nearly ended at the release of an expansion to my beloved DA world.  The gall of some companies!

And remember, the interview says the new characters will be as well--if not more--developed than those of Origins, so we may very well be looking at future romances.  <3

Kingly duties do beckon him away from my queen PC.  I'm just praying for more witty one-liners and ritual dismemberments.

I could never love another collection of pixels. NEVER.

(Yeah, I forsee new romances.  All joking aside, we should probably all be concentrating on the awesomeness that is five completely new characters to play with. sexymalemagesexymalemagesexymalemage *crosses fingers*)

Awww, cute.
So you prefer them being killed off, instead of being absent for a while and then possibly returning?

Your faithfulness to these characters is admirable, but be a man (for that is what I'm assuming you are?)!  It is in your nature to move on when stronger, sexier women may make themselves avaliable to you!  :D

Oh, I already have the Sexy Male Mage covered with my PC, so this is currently unnessecary.  I would like a Davethesque character though.  Zevran, but not.  More "I-just-want-in-your-pants-pls", less "I-actually-love-you-so-here's-an-earring-I-swiped-from-a-dead-guy".  Where have all the Don Juans gone?

actually, i'm more like a girl. though i'm not so sure sometimes:huh:
well, it just dumps what i assumed most of my characters to be like. giving me some serious identity crisis (virtual one, that is).

I'd like them to go one better and produce a female who doesn't go all sappy and jealous on you. Shale, but like.. fleshier.

Don't worry. This is Bioware we are talkign about.
I am sure either the lucky person you chose is either an npc that you can talk too, or there would be a pretty good explanation as to why he / she is absent. Maybe even a goodbye letter to shed some tears, who knows?

It's easy for you. Not easy for my PC who fell in love with Morrigan! Image IPB

i still am disappointed that the romance options like Leliana/Zevran aren't included as party members, after all they can both help rebuild the wardens i believe, just seems stupid that they couldn't even allow you 1 old companion(who we actually like, not Oghren)

You assume that all DA:O players like/dislike the same characters.  And you'd be wrong.  Personally, I found Leliana and her grating accent annoying, but Oghren hilarious.  Same with the constant Alistair battle; many find him whiny, dependent, and childish but I found him endearing.  Anyway, if Zevran were in the game, wouldn't you just complain about how Leliana isn't and vice-versa?

ash the rpgamer wrote...

but thats the point, its not my choice, my choice was Leliana
travelling/rebuilding the wardens, same with Zevran. so it means
nothing what i chose, its being written over by bioware to make the
expansion easy to add.
that choice i made, won't affect the game at all, it was a pointless choice

In my ending, I believe Leliana said she would return to Orlais to try and defeat Marjolaine once and for all (or something of the sort).  Who's to say she won't get herself killed in the process?  I know I got my ass kicked by Marjolaine the first time around, and that was with a well-armoured party of four.

In another ending, I got the same thing with Leliana staying with the Grey Warden.  Although the darkspawn may be stunted in the Blight, Fereldan is still a dangerous land; anything could just as easily pop up and kill a traveling party of two.

What I'm saying is maybe your choices will affect the beginning of Awakening, but maybe not in the way you desire.  It'd be easy to write in one of them dying even at the very beginning (just look at the Origins of DA:O; nearly every one of them resulted in someone close to you dying.)

Quit ASSUMING things.  It's only day two; we don't know anything for certain.

Honestly, the easiest way to get rid of Lelianna for the Expansion is to send her out and do what she does best, be a Spy. Even if you don't have the ring, and even if you do, She's really the best chance you have of Finding Morrigan. Although the other easy option to get rid of her is if you tell how you survived. Which would also give her an excuse to track down Morrigan. That's my bet.

um...not including them doesn't "ruin the game" LMMFAO at that idiotic statement....DA:O remains the same..just as good as ever...if your companions from DA:O aren't in DA:O-A how exactly does that "ruin" DA:O? that's right..it doesn't..because NOTHING about DA:O changes...

most games with expansions don't necessarily bring back your companions...use your goddamn head people.

Also...it just says 5 new party memebers...with a returning favorite..what if...and I know this isn't that likely..but for all we know you have the party from DA:O....PLUS the 5 NEW ones..and the "returning favorite" is....DUN DUN DUN....Duncan...somehow...yes unlikely but the FACT is we don't know crap about the game.

All you people crying about it need to get a grip and use your heads. Wait for more info before you throw your little temper-tantrums.

Hostility much? lol

Anyway, Dev's already said only one companion from your previous companions joins you in the expansion to continue fighitng, and based upon the trailer, it is Oghren.

1.)  Because people get attached to the characters in this game.  To many, the characters' depths and realism are what make the game so great.  It's like going to a party with people you don't know: sure, you may meet new friends, but there just won't be the same satisfaction as if you went with your best friends.

2.)  Your condescending usage of "idiots" and "goddamn head" has the reverse effect I believe you intended on your argument.  You lose 10 points for any reasonable comments you were trying to make.  Sorry.

1. understandable..but in no way makes a game not worth getting NOR "ruin" a previous one...

2. aw did my potty-mouth upset you?  So my valid points are made less so because I used bad words.  yah THAT'S intelligent...

1.)  I agree, but that doesn't mean others will.  If characters and their choices are the catalyst to keep them playing the game, then why shouldn't that be what they look for in future expansions?  It changes the story and suddenly they feel like they're being thrown into a whole new realm unfamiliar to the last game.  It's like reading a book; what if you read Harry Potter, and suddenly the third book decided to ditch Ron and Hermione and replace them with some new companions?  The world may be the same, but suddenly it seems foreign territory, a foreign land some may not wish to travel.

2.)  I'm not upset, I simply think you're demeaning yourself poorly and making yourself look the fool if the best words to enhance your 'valid' argument are "idiots" and "goddamn."  I have no problem with 'potty-mouths'--I swear like a sailor--but there's really no place for them when you're trying to sound even remotely intelligent.

And really, I think sarcasm is below us here.  ;)

Just because a DA1 companion is not joinable in the expansion does not mean they are killed off or you will never see them again.

You have been sent to deal with an issue in Amaranthine. Your friend/romance does not have to permanently be at your side. Once you have dealt with the issue in Amaranthine. I suppose you return to them and resume whatever you were doing.

There might even be another post game expansion with another favourite character.

1) Nothing in the epilogue for the PC you romance says you're together all the time on every single adventure the rest of your lives with ANYONE. So please, even IF Ali/Leliana/Zev are not in the expansion, don't assume without knowing this means that they're gone, or dead, or your choices didn't matter. Unless they change the epilogues, that just is not so. And if they do, play it through with a new PC and leave that ending for the old one.

2) Even IF the romance partner isn't joinable as a full party member all game long, there's nothing to say there can't be conversations or something else to allude to the relationship. It is a LONG leap from saying "This NPC is not in the party" to, "we're re-writing the story to trash your choices." Why do people insist that 1=2?

3) Oghren is NOT confirmed. You can make a red-haired dwarf pretty easily. But even if he is, if you're going down the Deep Roads, who else would you take? From a story perspective, it makes sense. But we don't KNOW it's Oghren yet. So speculating without confirmation is pretty silly.

4) It does say something about the quality of writing that people are all wrapped up about losing their pixel romance partner. :P And yes, Leliana makes me melt too. hehe But as long as I don't see what happened to Aribeth and Sharwen in HotU, I'll be fine. And given the amount of time invested in the characters of DA vs those two...I think it unlikely that your romance partner is going to be thrown into a ditch. Most likely you'll see them or chat with them or maybe even have to save them from a disaster, who knows?
