1) Nothing in the epilogue for the PC you romance says you're together all the time on every single adventure the rest of your lives with ANYONE. So please, even IF Ali/Leliana/Zev are not in the expansion, don't assume without knowing this means that they're gone, or dead, or your choices didn't matter. Unless they change the epilogues, that just is not so. And if they do, play it through with a new PC and leave that ending for the old one.

It's a major part of your characters story, and considering they say that they want the expansion to reflect your characters story and decisions from Origins it would seem like a rather glaring omission. I'm one of the people who likes the idea of moving away from the old party member's and creating a fresh batch, but at the same time I do think something that was such an integral part in your characters development in the first game should be completely ignored. It'd just feel odd that the man/woman you swore your undying love to a few years ago doesn't get a single mention let alone an a cameo.

2) Even IF the romance partner isn't joinable as a full party member all game long, there's nothing to say there can't be conversations or something else to allude to the relationship. It is a LONG leap from saying "This NPC is not in the party" to, "we're re-writing the story to trash your choices." Why do people insist that 1=2?

Agree.

3) Oghren is NOT confirmed. You can make a red-haired dwarf pretty easily. But even if he is, if you're going down the Deep Roads, who else would you take? From a story perspective, it makes sense. But we don't KNOW it's Oghren yet. So speculating without confirmation is pretty silly.

There's a screenshot floating in a couple of threads that show Oghren's face from a sideshot, combine that with the fact that Oghren is one of two character who you cannot kill, cannot chase away by a decision, and even if you refuse him, kick him out, or actually manage to make him hate you enough, all of his epilogues keep him in Fereldan with no vanishing act. He kind of makes the perfect character to bring back for a party member, easy and safe.

4) It does say something about the quality of writing that people are all wrapped up about losing their pixel romance partner. :P And yes, Leliana makes me melt too. hehe But as long as I don't see what happened to Aribeth and Sharwen in HotU, I'll be fine. And given the amount of time invested in the characters of DA vs those two...I think it unlikely that your romance partner is going to be thrown into a ditch. Most likely you'll see them or chat with them or maybe even have to save them from a disaster, who knows?

I don't know, death and distress is always a good way to spicen up a story. ;)

It'll be interesting to see if/how they incorporate some of these old companions and their romance if it was done. From a technological standpoint alone this expansion is going to be interesting to see, let alone the story and gameplay aspects.

The complexity involved in carryover romances isn't something I would pay for. I want improved characters, even if we are reusing them from this game. Can always find someone new, or even redate the original if you are somehow actually attached. But there are other types of games where this is possible.

I suspect they can bring back any of the ones from this game to have new quests built around them

or have them as remote NPs who can't be added to the party because they have a plot purpose. I have a hard time believing Morrigan is gone for good.

You can whine when it comes out and you can prove anything.

Well, from what I can tell, Alistair will be there for at least a short time, so my romance character will essentially continue.  :kissing:

I have romanced Alistair too, lol. I just wished to see him be there for a long time, and not short lol.

Kingly duties do beckon him away from my queen PC.  I'm just praying for more witty one-liners and ritual dismemberments.

I chose the ending where he comes with me to rebuild Warden, he didn't wanted to be king, so he got it his way. If the expansion pack is about rebuilding the Warden, then the ending I chose is like perfect for a continue.

I, for one, am looking forward to having sex with new and interesting companions.

Better to seek actual human companions. Leliana is two timing you with 200,000 other guys you know,

The carryover could be interesting but it adds nothing to the game. The "relationships" with the other characters aren't the goal of the game. You can't simply go go back to the campfire and cyber nail them for another 100 hours right?  There would have to be progression. Virtual babies? Castle in the burbs? You may already have a bastard with Morrigan (actually that might be a future plot point). Child support?

If they don't sever and restart, the relationships either take things over and your characters goal becomes keeping his date alive, having kids, or a nice home with some job security. OR there is no further development other than some frisky lines before the sex in underwear begins again, except you have a new set of banter and really what is the point? The interractions are all with known quantities. New NPCs means a new role of the dice as to their intentions toward you. New histories and new sub quests, Some of the party characters are unpopular and I am sure there are people who want no repeaters. We might all have a favorite or two but I doubt we all agree on them so who decides?

It isn't worth it to me for them to use a significant part of the limited game development on carryover relationships, possessions etc, especially when the development of friendships and more really stems from simply asking questions and giving the odd gift.

I remember how dissappointed I was with the familir Baldurs Gate characters not being exact carryovers to BG2 but the character improvements made me forget that pretty fast.
