With the added damage a lower attack speed does not really come into play. I can't even tell if attack speed is even accounted for in DA:O as far as dagger to sword speed anyway.
Aside from that, being able to spam multi-hit skills like flurry, punisher and dual weapon sweep more than makes up for what little difference there is.
Have you tried playing a strength Rogue?

No, but I have played a backstabber Rogue with Momentum. It typically makes attack skills other then stuns obsolete. Well Dual Sweep is occasionaly nice.
And I wouldn't call the attacks speed difference small.

If you don't want to backstab, why not play a dual-wield warrior?nksaint wrote...
Cunning is good, but you have to have all +Critical/Backstab gear or else you can't top a strength Rogue. Not to mention you HAVE to backstab or else it is not worth it.

It's been tested and proven that a Dual dagger Cunning rogue (with around 30 base dex) does the most damage than any other kind of rogue. I'm working my way through with one and thus far I've had no issue hitting my targets.

Have you never test or used Momentum? The quicker attack speed is VERY noticeable and increases your DPS considerably with any weapon. You can still spam those with some +stamina regen equipment and some decent mage support casting.nksaint wrote...

The problem with a Strength Rogue is that you are pretty much combat only. Dexterity and Cunning give you so many other gameplay options (that are frankly more "roguish"). DW Warrior is more suited to a Strength build (tho there is no reason you can't play the game as a DW Rogue with high strength).

Depends on how you want to play I suppose.
I've played all 3 versions and the strength Rogue is the best balance that I have found.

I got accomplished rogue by accident on my first playthrough (which was in nightmare by the way). The only rogue skill I didn't take was feign death.
I played as Ranger/Bard, and picked essentially passive DW talents and a couple archery ones (including aim, mostly to maximize my pulling damage from stealth since I didn't want to go all the way to arrow of slaying). On that playthrough I was really stamina-starved due to all the passive boosts from ranger and bard, so I didn't have to do that much micromanagement, helped learning to play in nightmare mode straight away. I found myself micro'ing the mage (morrigan or wynne) most f the time, but for about 50% of the fights I simply enjoyed "soloing" whole groups by abusing combat stealth and ranger resummoning like there was no tomorrow. I remember clearing several areas in Denerim (during the final battle) with my fellow bears, wolves and spiders as only allies - only because I sucked so much that the rest of the party would die within the first few seconds of scatter-spamming from the enemy archers.
It took me quite a while for this first run, but I think I enjoyed every single roguish second. There's nothing like pulling an insane comeback when the odds go 1vs2 to 1vs8 then back to 4vs1 thanks to all the tricks you can pull off with an accomplished rogue, some beastly help, a few flasks of poison, a couple enchanted daggers, a decent bow along with the occasional trap to round up a two-shotting squad.of mobs with the AI of a retarded squid.
I don't think it's the best build, but it was definitely an interesting and enjoyable experience.
Edit: Oh, I went for 20ish strength, 40ish dex, 40ish cunning, and rest in willpower.

Dex Rogue with 2 daggers, The Edge and The Beast Masters something or other, both 6 dmg, with good Cun, this boost armour pen. as well, trumps a Str Rogue anyday. Don't forget that Dex boosts the damage of daggers. I take my Str to 22 for the Superior Drake armour and then leave it.
Assassin/Duelist is very good and all Rogue talents for the improved backstab range and backstabs on stun and immobilisation.
Edit : Shadowsil is my rogue and with poisons she does very well with Dog, Sten and Wynne. I don't know why her weapons aren't listed but I'll see if I can fix that later.
