- Completed The Sword of the Beresaad to the point where Faryn says Dwyn is the current owner of the sword.
- Went to Redcliffe to speak to Dwyn. Since I didn't have Sten currently in my party, I chose not to do anything regarding Sten's sword, bud did persuade Dwyn to help defend Redcliffe.
- I defended Redcliffe from the undead, went to camp so I could add Sten to my party and returned to Dwyn's house.
- Now whenever I talk to Dwyn, he says "Shouldn't you be celebrating?" and I have no dialog options regarding Sten's sword and the chest in the other room remains locked.

I'm now stuck in a position where I can't complete The Sword of the Beresaad. Whenever I speak to Dwyn, hoping to get dialog options regarding the sword, he only says with "Shouldn't you be celebrating?" and provides no other dialog options. Here is how I got to this point:

I'm havring the same problem, but earlier in the quest. I went to the docks but can't find the scavenger to talk to. Dwyn is still "celebrating" and Faryn is just trying to sell me stuff. It's frustrating because I would really like to get Sten's sword for him.

Does anyone know if there's an official means of reporting bugs to Bioware so they might be able to look into this and prepare a potential fix for a patch?

I followed the quest in the correct order and when I spoke to Faryn he told me to go to redcliffe; so I went there (didn't check quest log) and spoke to Dwyn, convinced him to give me sword; he gave me the key (in the dialogue) but nothing in my inventory when I checked and likewise I can't open the chest. Now when i talk to him there are no options to get the key and I can't open the chest. Tried going back to Faryn and there are no further dialogue options.
sort of stuck now. I'm playing the PC version. but no-one there has registered this problem in the PC forums.

Dwyn's key will unlock a "gift" item, give it to Sten will become his wanted sword.
btw, I'm stuck in this mission, I passed the dock and headed to Faryn, after the conversions I can't get my quest go on. Still stuck in "finding Faryn" any idea? is it a game bug?

Geez...what isn't bugged? It feels like this game caught some kind of videogame swine flu. Numerous bugged quests, bugged items, server issues...

You must have Sten in party when talking to Faryn. When you talk to Dwyn you get the celebrating conversation. Imediatly talk to him again and opton will come up. Opening chest will give you gift item, give to Sten then the sword Asala will apear in inventory and you can have Sten equip it.

I guess this quest is just severely borked. I can't find the Scavenger. Faryn doesn't tell me anything and Dwyn doesn't tell my anything either. I have Sten in my party of course.

I've got a similar problem, I spoke to Faryn but the questlog didn't update, it still says I should talk to Faryn.
Great, but Faryn tells me he already told me everything he knew and that's it. Is there any workaround for this, so Sten can have his sword back?

Vashedan, Have Sten in your party, should work. I've tried it 3 different times, Before battle of redcliffe, after and after killing the Archdemon, all worked with Sten in the group.

I just want to say I have the PC version and can confirm this bug. I had Sten in my party for all dialogs. After retrieving the sword from Dwyn's chest it fails to appear in the inventory and the quest does not complete. Going back through my save games it appears the quest breaks when you speak to Faryn, it does not update with the info about Dwyn.
One more thing, the only other posts about this bug assume that it breaks because you speak to Dwyn and try to get the sword before talking to Faryn. This is not the case. I spoke to Dwyn to have him join the fight in Redcliffe, and that was it. I did not go back to talk with him and retrieve the sword until after going through the quest with Faryn.

I can confirm that I spoke to Faryn first, but the quest didn't update. Does anyone know of a fix?

The quest doesn't update, but if you go talk to Dwyn anyway, the first time you'll get the celebrating text, but the second time I spoke to him I got the "do you have a quanari blade' text.

I was having the same problem. The chest wouldn't unlock even though I had the key. I came back a whilte later with Sten and it opened. Pretty buggy.

At first I was having the same problem! The scavenger was nowhere to be found! But after i entered and left the Spoiled Princess I found the scavenger upon leaving the area, he is/was near the exit of Lake Callahan Docks-but he wasn't there when I came in, so, (1) you must have Sten, and (2) enter the tavern and leave so he spawns?... I almost missed him!

did you look in the inventory under gifts. You have to give the gift to Sten to get the quest to update, after that it appears in the weapon inventory and is equippable

I'm completely confused with this quest. I haven't a clue where to even start for this because everyone jumps around on various different forms ... "Try talking to so-and-so" or "Go to Redcliffe and ..." or "Find blah-blah" ... I have saved Redcliffe with Sten in my group, talked to Dwyn and nothing, went to the Lake and don't see any scavenger, I have no options to start this. Is it just a plain bugged out quest?

Had Sten in the party the entire time, Faryn gave me the news to get to Dwyn... .but at that point my journal did not update and still says I have to find Faryn.
In RedCliffe, Dwyn claims to give me the key whether I pay, or intimidate, or whatever way I choose to pursue it. I avoided asking Dwyn about fighting in the night's battle, to separate the two quests. My inventory even says "Item added" to inventory. But there is no key in my inventory anywhere, and the chest won't open, and Dwyn won't revisit the issue.
Stupid borked quest.
