Hey devs, how about some mini games?

Find the rock or ball under three cups.
Mini golf would be hilarious to encounter.
A version of Caravan from New Vegas?

I'm also against hacking/lockpicking/science/etc... minigames. To me, calling them "games" is a misnomer. To me, they are just tedious actions I have to constantly do before my character does what I want them to do. This is mainly based on TES, Fallout and Mass Effect.
If Bioware do decide to add such a thing, I hope that it is entirely optional(ie: no quests related to it), and that it only rewards currency/items related to the activity(ie: card game rewards more cards).

I don't mind some sort of optional minigame you can go do for fun, like if The Hanged Man had a wicked grace game you could play; even if it was an alternate way to make (or lose!) money. Having to do those minigames to hack machines in Bioshock got really old after a while. I certainly don't want that in Dragon Age.

Of course, Diamondback would be cool too.

So a mage's staff does have an alternate use... Interesting. I'd like to put in a vote for the rousing party game, QUno.Mini golf would be hilarious to encounter.
As far as Lockpicking, I'm mixed about it. If the team can find a way of making the mechanics unique and worthwhile, I wouldn't mind it...but otherwise I don't know if it's worth bothering for. Looking back, even the Thief Series didn't go any farther than holding the lockpick button whilst playing the waiting game. You alternated between different shaped lockpicks, but it was essentially just hold-and-wait.
All in all, I don't know if it's an effort worth venturing. Back when I played DA:O and DA2, it never bugged me that I didn't bother taking a specific action to pick a lock - in the same way we recognize that casting a spell is commanding your PC or companion, and doesn't require a QTE or some other gameplay element to cast it. Mini-games have some promise, but I don't know if lockpicking is worth the effort.

Gah, is it the mini-game you have to complete in the base on Noveria in ME1? I never got that game...<_<

In all seriousness, another Tower of Hanoi thrown in would at least be better than nothing.
ME3 lacked minigames and puzzles almost entirely - I still remember people confidently predicting that hacking/slicing were still there after they were absent in the demo ;___;
(it does look promising, though, that some DA3 devs talked about puzzles in early sprint review days)

True and you get a strength node for the win. It's crucial that the player succeeds at Tidus's night-time practice on the ship's deck before arriving at Luca. (The Luca Goers were douchemisers.)Redbelle wrote...

Everyone who's mentioned FF8's Triple Triad gets free chocolate chip cookies.<Takes a handful of said cookies, bends reality by reaching through the monitor, and drops them on the other side multiple times.>
Also anyone remember FFX's Blitzball, and how the computer was a cheating b@st@rd?
Blitzball was a pain to win in the main storyline. Bit of practice though and it's possible to do with Jecht's trick shot.
I thought it was a great mini game. It was a bit like Blood Bowl. Without the killing.

Lockpick minigames and things of the sort are just pointless time wasters. However real mini games such as this card and boardgame you mention could be fun! Mini games that are just there to be fun can be quite enjoyable.Allan Schumacher wrote...
I quickly looked over this, but it seems that by "minigame" you're referring more to the "spend some time somewhere doing something fun that isn't related to any sort of crit path (or at least isn't significantly related)?" As opposed to "I like to play frogger while hacking!" <.<
Do people prefer a minigame for the lockpicking type of activities? DA hasn't really featured them.
I know we have done some experimenting with a type of board game (or perhaps card game), but unfortunately I haven't heard much more about that (and that was almost a year or so ago).

I don't care if they're quest tied, or not. Pub games..drinking;cards;dice. At home games--chess (awesome idea). Brawling, or mage games.
let us win sum money. Or some novel bits of loot.
just give me sumthing else to do. take a break from killing all the time. And not just tracking down Qunari swords. That wasn't fun. you just happened upon a crate, or a pile of rubble.

If I want to play cards, I can get my friends together and play poker. Or go online. If I want to throw dice, I've got Yatzee in my closet and a Casino 20 miles from me. If I want to race horses or swoop bikes I'll buy a racing game.
I'm not buying a fantasy RPG for those things. I'm buying it for fantasy role playing . . .

If it's not mandatory i see no reason to exclude one, and it could provide an alternative to earning some money rather than the fetch quests we were bombarded with in DA2.Hanz54321 wrote...

In Kotor the Endar Spire's gun turrets and the swoop racing was mandatory. Otherwise, yes.

ROFL; you just made my day with that one. If we could use the mage staff for mini golf, I'd be in!
I'm not a huge fan of lock-picking mini-games, unless I have an unbreakable lock pick.
I love the mini-games in AC3, though. I spent a couple of hours playing board games in pubs, racking up extra cash. It was good fun.
I like optional puzzles, too, like how you could shuffle the Nightmares quest in DAII.
I actually think it would be really fun if you could use a high dex/charisma score to *cheat* at games, like how Isabella cheats at Wicked Grace in Origins. If you could play the game with your companions, the rogue characters could possibly catch you cheating, but a warrior might be like, "Wow, I really suck at this game." lol.

And the mini games in RDR weren't involved in any gane mechanics. It's the prime example of doing minigames right.

That's nice. But I still like minigames in my RPG's. Mix things up a bit. Just running from fight to fight gets boring.

I agree, "lock picking type mini games" are not really mini games to me, I have always found them tedious and in the way of me getting that loot. When I think of a mini game in a game my mind runs straight to "fun activity that is not essential to any part of the game that I can sink some time into"
yep.
I enjoyed the lil board games in AC3. Especially w/ sum of the major npc's. But they would have lil snippets of dialogue. Or get impatient when I took too long. Tapping their fingers on the table.
Or when Connor would do a bit of trash talking---in his Connor way. "That is unfortunate....for you." it made me chuckle.

Weird! None of the Bioware RPGs I've played(ie: all of them) have ever just been running from fight to fight.
